Here is a life lesson that I hope you take to heart: If you accept no shame there is no shame. Own it and move on. If somebody teases you with "so you couldn't get it with Julie, she's too good for you" I'd just say "yeah, she didn't want all that sauce so she missed out on the gravy train" or something that says the gist of 'yes she rejected me, her loss' or "you win some, you lose some" This is a valuable life lesson, how you deal with the shit that flies your way on the daily.

What is the worst thing that happens if you get rejected? Your ego gets bruised a little. A part of growing up is learning to handle that. If you never go for the job you want or the things you want in life you are never going to get them anyway. You have very little to lose and everything to gain.

Can verify. I used to be an accomplished ' hot girl' back in college. Then I shaved my waist length hair off and in an instance a good 70% of the guys that had been eying me and flirting with me disappeared. They were a) shallow and b) afraid of a woman that didn't GAF about becoming 'voluntarily ugly' - it was a reverse 'removes classes and shakes out ponytail' makeover and it literally freaked some of them out. In hindsight I found the whole experience very character building.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
