In this scenario, you're apparently all gathered around the TV, which is a complete waste of time, as evidenced by her checking out. Go for a walk, engage with your kids, challenge them to a board game or invite them out to do something. The problem here isn't her; it's the lack of your giving her better options. If she's still doing this during family time, just start ignoring her. You can't make another adult change, so engage with your family as if she didn't exist. Make plans, go places, liv…

It is your fault, whether you're ready to accept that or not. She wouldn't do this if she feared losing a high value man. She is damaged and you are attracted to that for some reason. You can't change another person; you can only change yourself, and if you had a shred of self respect you wouldn't be trying to work things out with someone who obviously respects you so little. When you're tired of your own denial and ready to explore what's wrong with you so that you can have better future relati…

This right here, OP. You are broken up, no matter what it's labeled. Plan for your single life after the lease runs out. Start making plans and watch that hamster spin. She wanted out, she got it. If she wants back, make it happen on your terms or not at all; fish in the sea and all that.

Are you listening to the advice here or not? Get to LIFTING. This is not a negotiable thing. Running is not sexy and won't make you more confident. If it's fat loss you're focused on, fix your diet. Running is still less efficient than lifting for that.

Get out now. As everyone else said in different ways, you cannot change her. That said, there's a chance she'll change herself (at least temporarily) if you show that YOU'VE changed by having the self respect to walk away. You'll be yelled at, shamed, but you'll likely be happier in the long run. Seen this exact scenario play out with a good friend and the aftermath lasted a couple years but he's WAY happier now.

Until what she's doing, thinking is irrelevant to you, you're still fking it all up. Quit hoping for any sort of nice-guy or winning outcome here. Get out of the relationship - because it's what a man with self respect would do - and focus on self improvement. This is about your life.

That was dr Rhonda Patrick from foundmyfitness.com and she talks about this a lot - benefits of both sauna and cold/ice baths, with the research evidence to support it. Edit: and google Hormesis

I've been told multiple times that I almost have more rights/leverage not being married to my kids' mother than I would if we had tied the knot. Don't know how true that is in practice, but I'm not walking down that aisle with stories like this. Geezus.

Soon. This will help smart guys change the game - http://www.sciencealert.com/reversible-male-birth-control-just-passed-another-trial-and-could-be-on-sale-within-2-years F: "We're pregnant!" M: "No, you're pregnant. And that's fascinating, because..."

Your last says it all, Go Slow. Guys come in here in emergency mode and think their sense of urgency matters to the rest of the world. There are no shortcuts.

You're firmly living in her frame. There's no "right way" to load a dishwasher, for shit's sake. There's your way and her way. If she takes issue with your methods, that's too bad; she can do it herself if it's that important to her. You don't get to dictate the behavior of other adults.

You didn't respond to his most important point. You know the best move here. Why are you staying in this miserable situation when you were happier separated and you could be living a much happier existence? Edit: I see your later response about your boys. Consider the possibility that your staying is doing them more harm by setting an example of putting up with a harpie when you don't need to. That said, as a father I get your dilemma.

You demonstrate zero self respect. Of course she's moved on. (I've been where you are.) You're no good to her or any other woman until you stiffen up that backbone. What would a man who respects himself and knows his worth do? Do that.

Exactly. "I'm not changing it, and if anyone has a problem with it this afternoon, you can send them to me." That's all she needed to hear.

He clearly doesn't respect you, and she's not defending your relationship (meaning she doesn't value/respect you, either). You're only here asking these questions because YOU don't respect yourself enough to define boundaries & consequences and stick to them. Tell her you're done dealing with a woman who doesn't know what she wants, and she can go fk herself, or Jake - no difference to you. Move on, and actually read and apply the side bar, and work on you. You wouldn't be in this situation if y…

If she says, "sure but you have to do blah", you say, "so.... No then. Ok, catch you later." That right there. It's an invitation, not a negotiation.

"Making good progress?" You realize that answer doesn't drop panties, right? Are you getting stronger or not, and how much stronger are you than when you started with the trainer?

You're just delaying the inevitable and making it more confusing and painful for your kids to absorb when one of you finds a new serious relationship.

This. I've been in this situation and immediately addressed the thing with my toddler son directly. I didn't need or ask for permission or agreement. I could be wrong, as I'm new to this, but i believe your action sets example of your expectation. If it happens again, then you address it directly with her. If she whined or made a comment after the fact, ignore. I'd like to hear an admin's take.

Ugh, yes. The "happy wife, happy life" garbage. Only true if you want a mommy. Enjoy your life on someone else's terms, beta.

Caught that, but the whole thing still smells fishy. Completely sweep a crime under the carpet so future brunches and barbecues won't be awkward? Bull. Dude should bolt. Even if her story were true - which is really questionable - why be with someone who has such little self-respect?
