He did give her a pretty gentle push, and then she gives him 3 swipes to the face, while he tries to back away, before he retaliates. She could have backed off if she felt threatened. She didn't. He tried to back off until he realised that he couldn't and even then instead of simply striking her in the head (as she had done to him) he tried to use a grappling move to move her further from him.

I definitely agree that this sub degrades into a fucked up mentality all too easily, but I am also frustrated that the teacher didn't feel the need to intervene while the guy was being attacked, but jumps in very shortly after he retaliates.

I should have said "less", not "worse". I understand why over-penetration would be a concern in a home-defence scenario, which is why your statement about ARs vs pistols confused me. You said that you "don’t have to worry about over penetration like handguns". I would expect a .223 to penetrate more than a 9mm, which would be a reason to not opt for an AR. Again, that's assuming that you weren't thinking of a .44 or something else with a little more oomph.

I'm pretty critical of affirmative action policies by organisations who should be impartial, but this scholarship was privately funded by a person who wanted to leave money to a specific group. I don't think the uni should say "No, you can't give money to our students".

It does bother me, but when you put it like that it's hard to justify why I feel that way. People should be able to do whatever they want with their money and as long as the receiver isn't dishonest about anything then nobody is doing anything wrong. Maybe it annoys me because there are much more worthwhile causes out there, maybe it annoys me because I'm jealous.
