But in my view, it's a fair analogy to say "well, so are death and taxes." One way or another, someone has to pay higher insurance premiums when someone has an accident. The point of "insurance" is to protect a group of people against a highly costly risk that is not very likely to happen. Someone commenting on my other thread points out that the difference is that mens' accidents still average costing insurance companies more because they tend to be more severe accidents. That makes a lot of sense to me and is consistent with what I can loosely remember hearing some time ago. Clearly, since feminism adopts one premise x for women and another premise y for men, one could coherently oppose that feminist hypocrisy either by rejecting premise x in favor of y for women, or by rejecting premise y in favor of x for men. The premise X here is that "sexism" means "discriminating on the basis of sex", and is always bigotry, and can never be justified. Feminists apply that premise to women, but not to men. My thoughts: No, for the same reason that it isn't sexist to charge women more for haircuts or have womens' razors cost more than their male counterparts. A movement arguing that charging men more for car insurance is sexist would be idiotic for exactly the same reasons that the feminist movement against so-called "pink taxes" is idiotic: making womens' razors and cutting womens' hair to womens' preferences actually does cost more. African-Americans are around 13% of the population, and commit around 40-50% of the everyday violent crime. Those disparities are similar.
