Suicide rates are highest for men in their 50s and we're not sure why.Part of it actually appears to be a statistical artifact resulting from the timing of the baby boom. | /r/MensRights | 08/11/15 06:45 PM

Quick Question: Is being charged more for car insurance because I am a male sexists? That's a fair point: higher insurance is worse than paying a "pink tax", I'll grant that. But in my view, it's a fair analogy to say "well, so are death and taxes." One way or another, someone has to pay higher insurance premiums when someone has an accident. The point of "insurance" is to protect a group of people against a highly costly risk that is not very likely to happen. So if a burnt home costs $1mil but your house is very unlikely to burn, in a city of 100 people, assuming 1 home in 100… | /r/MensRights | 07/10/15 09:02 PM
Quick Question: Is being charged more for car insurance because I am a male sexists?I agree. But a double standard means we have a standard A on one side (for women), and a standard B on the other side (for men). I simply want the double standard eradicated by giving women standard B as well as men instead of by giving men standard A as well as women. And it should be emphasized that my position is ultimately the one that is most deeply critical of feminism: I not only think it's hypocritical, for applying standard A to women and giving men standard B instead, I think it's ridi… | /r/MensRights | 07/10/15 05:58 PM
Quick Question: Is being charged more for car insurance because I am a male sexists?Someone commenting on my other thread points out that the difference is that mens' accidents still average costing insurance companies more because they tend to be more severe accidents. That makes a lot of sense to me and is consistent with what I can loosely remember hearing some time ago. That would have women crashing more but men driving way above the speed limit much more often. | /r/MensRights | 07/10/15 05:35 PM
Quick Question: Is being charged more for car insurance because I am a male sexists?Ah. That adds useful clarity without detracting from my underlying core argument. Thanks for that. | /r/MensRights | 07/10/15 05:26 PM
Quick Question: Is being charged more for car insurance because I am a male sexists?I agree with why this is relevant to feminism. Clearly, since feminism adopts one premise x for women and another premise y for men, one could coherently oppose that feminist hypocrisy either by rejecting premise x in favor of y for women, or by rejecting premise y in favor of x for men. The premise X here is that "sexism" means "discriminating on the basis of sex", and is always bigotry, and can never be justified. Feminists apply that premise to women, but not to men. So we can coherently reje… | /r/MensRights | 07/10/15 05:20 PM
Quick Question: Is being charged more for car insurance because I am a male sexists?Well, that is interesting. Are you aware of any critical responses anywhere (even if not especially ones that are also refuted themselves elsewhere)? | /r/MensRights | 07/10/15 05:10 PM
Quick Question: Is being charged more for car insurance because I am a male sexists? My thoughts: No, for the same reason that it isn't sexist to charge women more for haircuts or have womens' razors cost more than their male counterparts. A movement arguing that charging men more for car insurance is sexist would be idiotic for exactly the same reasons that the feminist movement against so-called "pink taxes" is idiotic: making womens' razors and cutting womens' hair to womens' preferences actually does cost more. Likewise, offering men insurance against accidents actually does… | /r/MensRights | 07/10/15 03:55 PM
| -1 | 'Suicides' over Ashley Madison hackEh, I take a rather Japanese perspective on this one, personally: sometimes hara kiri seems honorable. If you betray people you pledged your word to and you can't live with them finding out, I can't muster a great deal of sympathy. All of those seem like basically 'masculine' virtues to me—honor, loyalty, being able to give a word that means something—and I'd hope that that doesn't somehow violate some MRA orthodoxy; but if it does, then maybe I'm not an MRA. That kind of MRA-ism, in my eyes, ju… | /r/MensRights | 24/08/15 03:02 PM |
Let's Be Honest: Young Males are More DangerousMen are around 50% of the population, and commit around 90% of the everyday violent crime. African-Americans are around 13% of the population, and commit around 40-50% of the everyday violent crime. Those disparities are similar. It's amazing how no one will consistently apply the same conclusions to both of these facts. It's an almost universal hypocrisy. For just one example, people whose response to that disproportionate black rate will be to say "we need to find out why that is, because it's… | /r/MensRights | 20/08/15 01:53 PM
