This is really a key point-it really is best if it is a home purchased/rented together. It sets you together on equal footing. That way you start out together rather than trying to fit ones belongings into the new spouses already set up home. That automatically puts the “moving in” spouse at a disadvantage.

I’ve generally had a circle of friends that I went out and did stuff with, friends of friends, the occasional coworker (I know!). They haven’t all been winners but at least I have had some familiarity with them before going on a date. It’s been a couple years since I dated though so maybe it’s a little different now.
