1	It is so frustrating... I have tried. She usually responds with, "Statistically [insert men are more abusive] or [insert women don't do it as much] arguments." Then I try to point out that there is not legislation against women, but on the contrary there is legislation against me. She will then say, "The laws have to protect women from men." Makeup is a styling procedure that women use to accentuate certain parts they want to highlight. Why is that useless? I put pomade in my hair and style it every morning and I also shave, are both these things useless in trying to look handsome and attractive as a male? It was my mother who said that hitting someone who was socially prohibited from hitting me back would be like beating on a person with a physical handicap, saying that if I wouldn't kick a wheelchair bound person, I shouldn't assault a guy, either. I don't think you understand how the military works if you think it is automatically setup for someone to enlist then "get blown to pieces". There are many jobs people do, and a large majority of them are not violent. Why is it bad she is dancing under an American flag? Is it somehow bad to have a little bit of pride for one's country? I recently debated two tokin liberal college feminists and the male (and also white) privilege thing was thrown in my face by both of them. I could not figure out how to respond because, like you, I grew up lower class and have never experienced what they were suggesting. By that happening it started me down the path you just explained here, though it was much muddier and I was still trying to work it out in my mind. Thanks for making it incredibly clear.
