I swear my eldest lived in a baby carrier the first year of her life. She was VERY NEEDY. I seriously would have gone crazy. Actually. I was. :/ ha. She wouldnt let anyone else near her. Not sure if that was me being a crazy (literally lol I had PPD and anxiety ;)) first time mom or how much is just her. Gah. So fun.

Girl. You are not failing. I have children with similar ages. It is damn hard. I wouldn't say it is boring, but it is draining AF to have little ones. Especially a young baby and an older child at a demanding age. You are counted on to be the emotional center for a bunch of co-workers with absolutely zero self-control as well as the only physical means of care. I've noticed if I keep the sink empty during the day my whole day goes better. I know it seems dumb, but it works for me. I have to run the dishwasher each night and unload it right away in the morning. Then all the dirty dishes can go straight in the dishwasher. I also want to get in the habit of doing two loads of laundry AND PUTTING THEM AWAY. Half my mess is laundry that never makes it to the closet! I get so distracted throughout the day (preschooler and baby)!

Less mess!! I am a bit of a slob ( not with grooming!!!) And I know it drives my husband nuts. I honestly don't register mess until it's like... Wtf happened here!? With two little kids this is an awful strategy.

This! Stretchy dresses. I've got a preschooler and am pregnant and knee length, form fitting dresses are so comfy, stretchy, and sexy enough so I don't feel frumpy, but not so revealing (none of mine are short or low cut) that I'm going to flash kids or strangers lol

When I went to college, my mom made me a photo album full of all of our favorite family recipes. She just used 4X6 index cards and inserted them into the clear sleeves. It was a lot of work, but so fun to have.

I like the cookbooks from SkinnyTaste as well as cook books written by Mark Bittman. He combines recipes with explanations that I find really helpful since it teaches me the WHY of things. Along the same line, I LOVE How to Cook Without a Book. It has recipes, but it is mainly about techniques and combining flavors. If you give a girl a fish...etc. :D Definitely recommend!

It's actually from a psychologist named Dr. Toni Grant. She had a popular radio show back in the day. If you haven't already checked it out, The Read Aloud Handbook and The Read Aloud family are absolutely fantastic resources for children's books. The information is fantastic, but the book lists are truly the. Best. Both are written by people that are quite religious and conservative (from what I can tell). Highly recommend.

I love the idea of keeping a small stash of celebratory drinks around! Or just having some around to unwind after a brutal week. I need to keep a supply of emergency snacks, too. I get nauseated and HANGRY, so a quick snack would be awesome. Guacamole is life. I always keep avocados, limes, and onions around. Have you tried the guac recipe from Cookie and Kate? It's SO. GOOD.

A year or a year and a half at least! I feel you. 4 months seems like an eternity, but it's so little in the scheme of things. Give yourself grace! In a few more months your little will start to get on a schedule and you'll be able to plan more.

Interesting. I thought the Guardian cartoon was a little heavy handed as well. Is it frustrating that my husband doesn't "see" that naturally if he's getting something out of the dishwasher it would make sense to unload the whole thing? Sure. I think it depends on your student loan situation. Knowledge is something that can't be taken away from you and is fantastic to have whether you use it at a job in an official capacity or "just" to be a smart mom. Lifelong learning and the love of learning is a fantastic skill and passion to instill in your future children. There are so many options for online schooling nowadays that it would be totally doable to go back once your future kids are in school.

Absolutely! I do as well. I honestly have to tear myself away from books to get housework done, as much as I actually do like it (cleaning toilets being the exception. Ha!). Cooking is very therapeutic for me. The whole process is great fun. I love the satisfaction of meal prepping and then whipping up a great dinner after a busy day. It's so pleasing to think, "I did that!" when you see a (mostly, let's be honest) tidy house and dinner on the table at the end of the day.

I'd say I'd probably work part time, but in reality what I did do when I didn't have kids (husbands job was still super intense, but not as intense as it is now) is work from home and/or go to school...so I guess not! It was a good compromise because I still got all the housework done and brought in some money. Yep. People say that to me too. I'm rarely bored because I have so much stuff to do just keeping up with kids and the house and errands. I do think it does take some kind of different intelligence to find a routine that works for you. It's taken me a good couple of years to find my swing of things. I'm an introvert, so I really don't get that oppressed, lonely, bored stereotype. I get enough stimulation from my toddler, thankyouverymuch!!!

I think it's more traditional/conservative. Although, I grew up in what I would consider a very traditional, conservative household (Mormon, in Utah) and my mom worked. Not when I was young (younger than school age), but she worked at my elementary school for years after. The struggle is real! I'm the clutter bug and I seriously have to make a routine with reminders in order to keep things even remotely neat. Something that has helped me is the app Fabulous. It lets you set goals and has mini routines and challenges for a bunch of different things...more energy, a better sleep, a strong will etc. It's been great!

I love Goodreads! I love reading nonfiction to learn! My favorites are books about cooking and parenting, but I read SO MANY of those last year I want to expand to something else. Except Ruth Reichel. I think she's fascinating (and nutty), but I love the way she writes.

We try to recognize when we are hungry. And by we, I mostly mean me...any time I start to get crabby he asks if I've eaten. :D Be conscientious of each other's annoying habits. He knows I find it annoying when he throws his clothes outside the hamper and i know he finds it annoying to leave clothes rumpled in the dryer. So we each try not to do those things to begin with. And finally, just don't nag. It doesn't help!! Sometimes you just have to let it go!

Same! But he really, really loves what he does AND he doesnt let stress from his job make him grumpy or stressed at home. I know he would rather be home with his family (he says it all the time and is pretty involved when he is home!), but it honestly isn't in the cards for us right now. At least he loves what he does AND really makes the time we have as a family count.

They were delicious and Toddler had so much fun decorating and eating cookies. We are going to make them again tonight with the leftover dough I popped in the fridge for later. Super easy. Took about seven minutes to throw together and two hours to chill.
