I'd expect more from a relationship in terms of meeting / getting to know eachother. This. If he doesn't fulfill your expectations, then that is a full sentence. I wouldn't be able to meet more than once or twice a week, but I'd expect a casual dating partner to stay engaged and make me feel sufficiently confident about their interest in me the whole time.

From the snippet alone, my take is Emma is advocating for Harriet to shoot above her station because Harriet is seen as desirable to many men. Whereas the scrote is saying because Harriet's birth is not noble, she should settle for a farmer. Emma is not saying Harriet is intrinsically better than other women because of a specific personality, only that she has X traits that men value and so, she can pick and choose, in the game of deciding on a suitor.

I'm dating again. It's a woman I had met two years ago. I didn't want to take things further then, so we stayed friends. This year we rekindled things. It's been three weeks. Whenever she comes over, she brings something she's cooked. Whenever she leaves, she takes out my trash and recycling. We went on a mini trip and I wanted to drive my car. She offered to Uber over so I didn't have to pick her up. On the way back, I was going to drop her off, but I got very tired, so she drove me home in my …

I still love and miss him, but know he won’t ever make me happy. It's not him you love and miss, it's the feeling of being wanted and sprinkles of affection, which means you can get those feelings elsewhere! From safer places. Such as therapist, friends, volunteering activities, and so much more!

I saw this and thought of you all too! It's why sticking to our boundaries are so important. We don't get sucked into the intermittent reinforcement of hot/cold behavior, and mistake the anxious emotions as love.

If they're old enough, the children may even know that their parents hate each other and are only staying together "for the kids" so they may even feel responsible for the fact that everyone is miserable. This! Spoilers for a cdrama I just finished watching (and absolutely love): A woman leaves her cheating husband. He begs her to stay, using the classic "think of our 5-year-old, how could you break up our home?" She said, "It's because of our son that I have to leave. I won't be able to face hi…

Thank you for hearing me out! Yeah, I grew up being spoken to by my parents this way, which led me to growing up into relationships that looked like this. My mom had outbursts that would end with her rolling on the ground. It took years of therapy to have a clear understanding of what abusive behavior looks like. And I feel lucky I can now see something like this and have all my alarm bells go off. It didn't use to be like this :)
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy04/01/21 09:19 PM

But this woman is putting herself at risk by frustrating this guy. Blaming her for his reaction is a form of victim blaming. If she's been in an abusive relationship for a long time, this behavior might already seem normal to her. For all we know he flies into a rage with her just in the room, PS5 right there. Maybe he lost a game. Maybe he was hungry and she didn't make him a sandwich. Would you say not making him a sandwich is "putting herself at risk by frustrating the guy"? She is figuring o…

This pairing made me think of the Batman/joker subplot. Joker was the psychopathic murderer villain who got put in jail, and his jail assigned therapist was Harley Quinn, who fell in love with him and broke him out. They went on to a life of crime and murder, but he was also an abuser toward her, so she wound up killing him to set herself free. Harley had that same "quirky" vibe, too. Sounds about right, lol

I was more thinking of "the bar is in hell" as the phrase that kicked it off. Interesting that they basically...agreed. Then again, OLD apps profit on ppl spending money to buy "premium" access. Which means they are motivated to make the most ineligible candidates think they will find true love too. Sign up!

That made me so angry to read. It's horrible. I am also NC with my mom and things from my childhood still come back and hit me hard. Your gut is right. It is last minute. Why not just see him on the next planned day (Friday)? Even if it's not his fault per se to cancel last minute, he still needs to manage his contingencies respectfully, and you should not be on call for his ex's schedule, or be guilted by his commitment to his children to become dictated by his/their needs. This level of enmeshing is potentially a red flag, especially if you are still early dating. The bottom line is, the more he cancels, the fewer his chanc…

Happened to me. I was a journalist a long time ago. This stuff was incessant. Not just over text but in person, too. I would interview someone and it ends with them asking me out. I could not handle it and it pushed me out the field

I mean. He looks 17 with no money, so anyone who listens to this "advice" is already out of my dating demographic. I prefer grown men who make enough to not blink at nice dinners, enjoys them with or without a woman, and therefore a "dinner date" with him is just a normal, bare minimum activity. And all that is before even scrotes get to consider whether or not women (or I) "love sex," would consider it with him, or any sort of display of interest on my end.

The timer is disgusting and it shows intent. Also, it is already an assault + battery case, and in civil court she is entitled to damages. Assault does not even need p-i-v penetration. Just crossing boundaries and mere presence of threat. Battery would be the harm done. Human rights, who would have thought?

Def mute the mutuals if it's a trigger. And remember that he doesn't have to be LV for you to not work out. My therapist had a habit of asking me "what do you miss about _____?" when we were working through my attachment issues to past people/situations I could not let go off. Most of the time, it led me to realize I was missing a certain component (could be anything from "feeling special," "feeling safe," "less lonely," "security," etc) and not the unhealthy situation or person that was not rig…

You are right! Oh MAN. I am reminded of an article written by a woman in her 50s about her husband's string of affairs. She detailed her pain, her exhaustion (with a mental breakdown during which she was hospitalized for a couple weeks), her trying to manipulate him back, all the whole raising kids together, but ultimately she felt pride that she "kept their family together" despite it all, and looked forward to retiring with her cheating man because she predicts he's done with affairs after being free to tast…

Yes! I saw that same meme and y'know what, it def hit home too. I sent it to my younger brother. My mother very openly favored her eldest son, my older brother. As a result, he became a bully to me. She excused every boundary he crossed. He and I are now estranged. But as an adult, he is not living a good life because he's so generally awful to be around. I have a relationship now with my younger brother. He was more the ignored child than the golden child, so he and I never had obvious conflict…

I have been through this. I was in media. I was 19 and working as a journalist. I got r*ped by a member of my crew. I never told anyone, and only felt so much shame and manually requested a different crew member every time I saw he was assigned to me (there's a board you check daily). I remember the feeling of dread so vividly even though that's over a decade ago. The field was male dominated, the crew I managed was largely male. The harassment was daily, unstoppable. Writing is a real job that pays. She is already contracted for three books. She could be at home watching TV and "doing nothing" after she collects rent. The issue here is the bf minimizing her career 3 years into the relationship, even insisting she changes career. If he had an issue with trust fund kids, he did not need to date her at the start. Sure, she got a leg up that I never did. But I would love to be able to provide for my future generations so they may chase their dreams.

While I agree that you can't force someone to go to therapy, I disagree that there is no reason for your husband to consider it. There is. You said it. His LVM behavior toward you at the start of your relationship. Even though he's changed, you are absolutely entitled to have trust issues, or fear that the behavior may return, or feeling uncertain of your own feelings. You have responsibly sought therapy yourself to work on those. It is perfectly fair for you to request that he get therapy as we…

I am not going to see family because covid. It's funny how seeing people's social media still brings up feelings of unworthiness. And I have to put my phone down, run a mental tab, and backpedal. Then I remember this was a year of me actively leaving, turning down dates, relationships, people wanting to 'claim' me, and 20 minutes later, "come back to my senses" and feel truly glad every decision I made this year had been to not sell myself short long term. But, single for the holidays.

But at the same time, love and sense of belonging are a literal need for the human species, as listed in Maslow's hierarchy of needs for instance. It's encoded into our being. I would start by catching yourself justifying pickme ways and flip the script. For instance, a LV fucboi is the opposite of 'love and sense of belonging,' and he will actively lead you away from love and sense of belonging. And if you continue to expose yourself to LV men before you build up the inner clarity to set bounda…

I agree with you. I am currently reading a lot on women who lost it all to LVM gold-digging husbands ('fortune hunters'). Barbara Stanny wrote about it in "Prince Charming isn't coming" (her husband lost her inheritance and put her in ruins). Sarah Breathnach also wrote about marrying a man who abused her and took everything. I'm even less inclined to marry after reading all that!

The older generation coming off rude when trying to fend off a man is not a new thing. I think of the trope of a beefy father coming face to face with a new boyfriend asking him "can you provide?" or straight up setting hoops for the man to jump through. It's the classy thing for the man to be ready to face resistance and have good answers. The family even code-switched to spare his feelings. This was considerate. If he did NOT speak the language, it's fair for him to express frustration. But he…

It's in no way the woman's fault or responsibility, it's just another way they're predators. Ok? So we are in agreement? I laid all this out in my comment.

Hm okay, that's not my point. My point is the act ("what if the man wants sex?") is not my concern, and him insisting on it would be wrong. Just in general, a man is responsible for his actions. Asking for money from a man who is harassing you is not what causes a man to "want sex". They want sex even if you ignore them, tell them no, dress like a nun, are sick, disabled, and the list of "strategies" goes on. I am simply sharing that I have done that (ask them to pay my bills) to get them to lea…

This is highly unlikely. We take people by their words and actions, not fantasies. In the 1% chance your fantasy scenario is indeed the case, he planned something, then the appropriate thing to do would be for him to break the "surprise" and clue her in right away. Because the basis of loving surprises is happiness, appreciation, and love. It is not to withhold while we watch our loved ones suffer, feel rejected, hurt, and then coming back to say "gotcha!" That becomes gaslighting, controlling, …

I've considered taking a big cardboard box and just throwing everything sitting on and around my desk in there and worry about it later. :) What's wrong with this? If it clears a space. I also keep my different projects in separate boxes too as a means of organization. I throw in the relevant papers, note cards, scraps of paper, sticky notes, etc. Now, I have a bunch clear plastic bins from Muji instead of a cardboard box, but the idea is the same!

I would still suggest vetting with a video first. The handbook recommends this. After you find him okay during the video, you can mention you are open to having a social distanced picnic. It's his cue to jump on it and offer to plan it, ask your preferences, etc. If he doesn't, that tells you what you need to know.

Just a random shower thought about a past man I went on two dates with. He was incredibly self important about his incredibly important corporate leadership job, and was venting that he preferred going to the office because he missed telling people what to do (cue ha-ha). Please read the handbook. He lies, communicates poorly, feed you constant excuses, and doesn't respect your time or emotions. A man's HV isn't in what he has materially (PhD's, a million dollars in the bank, CEO job title, chiseled abs). I think 3rd date is fine, if anything it gives you more info in your vetting. You get to see him in his element, his friends, and attending a holiday party as a date feels appropriate. It isn't gf status, it's an event. That said, only do it if you are comfortable. Feel free to decline if you don't feel you will enjoy yourself.

I recommend therapy, finding new communities, and seeking new knowledge to refute and rewire your previous frame of experience. Childhood experiences are formative and enduring, so also give yourself lots and lots of time. Even if you feel like giving up, take a break instead, until you can continue again. The part of you that is softly questioning your current BDSM community is asking to be listened to and given space. Don't shut it / her down.

Any advancement in discussion of consent, rape culture, trauma, and consequences and rights of a rape victim shifts the responsibility more and more to them. They must ask. They must make sure. They must cover all gray areas. They must drink less. They must check their actions every single minute of the day. They don't want to do that. Yep. Lots of upper middle class men are raised with basic decency, which means manners, education, monied job. The vetting process is literally longer bc it masks their misogynistic worldviews. Sometimes it takes after marriage for the mask to drop. I went to a uni that had this demographic and almost all the men I met had fathers in high powered jobs and a mistress. Yep. I file her under radfems who speak about disgust toward their infants (postpartum depression), feeling at a loss after being a mother (cultural misogyny), and so on. She just gives off an unbothered vibe most of the time and it's easy to hate on an unbothered woman. She does not share any struggle pickme tales like justifying a bad man or sobbing over not being able to pay rent and still refusing to leave a bad man who did not marry her while leaving her destitute. Like, she is living her l…

Grimes is such an easy target imo. I am shocked at the hate Grimes gets from other women across all spectrums. Men hate her too. And even though I want children and will do that some day, I see this fear she speaks so clearly about, the feeling of capitulation, giving up power. And it's not because of one bad sperm donor that is Elon, it's because the world (culturally) hates women, and they hate mothers even more. I, like her, do not see motherhood as eternally empowering or sunshine. I will st…

it wouldn't surprise me if she were on the spectrum Can I ask what signs she showed that made you think this? please don't promote the misogynistic view that she only had a baby with him for the connection/money/etc. because this is an MRA talking point. I also agree with this. It's so wrung out to the point where she came out to insist that they split costs and made it a thing to not take his money....smh

The biggest irony is the actress, Anya Taylor Joy, thinks she is ugly because she isn't classically beautiful and she was bullied through school. She has disproportionate features, wide set eyes, and when she was cast to play Emma, she cried and tried to quit because she would be the "first ugly Emma." I don't care if the book SPECIFIED Beth was SUPPOSED to be ugly. It was still written by a man and any time a man makes a big deal about a woman's looks, as a lazy built-in mechanism for her chara…

I found the spiral believable, even though I can't say I know many women who grew up in an orphanage nursing deep traumas, psychosis, an opiate addiction, and coming into age with a protege level talent in an exclusively male field. All that makes the spiral seem tepid, even. And I am nowhere near Beth's level of genius, but in my troubled youth I have definitely shacked up with dudes the way she did, seeking validation, love, or a combo of whatever. Considering how isolated she was, and having …

I do like that her love interest is in the same league looks wise though. The other crusty chess geniuses never managed to move her. She used them to cope etc but it was clear Townes was the one who had her heart. Edit to add: Beth is a regular woman. There is no "regular" woman to pit her against. That's like saying women wearing makeup is scamming a man, they prefer "regular/natural". Obviously she wears makeup and has nice hair. The media is full of "ugly" women with low self esteem- they can…

I had a LVM "best friend" orbiter who did all of this, short of sex. I initiated a conversation about dating several times. But he only viewed me as a friend, though he thought I was hot. Sorry, girl. We carried on as friends for a year or so. After he tried to have sex with me, I demanded either we date, or he leave me alone. He did not want to date. I blocked his phone. Three months later, I got an email that he was in love with me and was sorry he did not know it earlier. In that email, he de…

My Bestie thinks "I trust my husband and I don't need to mess with his stuff or see his phone because I trust him" IMO there's a difference between trusting someone and fearing the possibility of confronting evidence that trust is betrayed. The guy may or may not cheat, but if you never have to confront it, it will never be a problem.

I agree with checking with the success flair. Also want to add that "success" in the terms of this sub isn't to "end up" in a relationship. I found value in learning strategies to date men / deal with men to add value to my life. To recognize that a life worth living isn't pegged to a man's valuation of my worth or fuckability or wifeability. So sometimes, that means leaving them, or not marrying them. I have turned down two proposals in my life, diamond ring and all.

I'm so proud of her. The hot tub pee is one infraction. He snowballed it by gaslighting her ("you are making a big deal") instead of appreciating her honest communication and taking the chance to apologize and change. So she threw the whole person away. Edit to add: the word "ultimatum" is also a gaslighty word for taunting someone who has limits and boundaries. In my younger days I have been guilted so many times about my "ultimatums" before.

Doing anything fun this weekend? Planned any adventures? Where are you going for the holidays? What you up to? Anywhere in the city you like? Any fun things you like? I used to jump to prove to these ppl I had an interesting life (lol 🤡). That was the old me. Then I asked myself if I would answer if someone stopped me on the way to CVS to buy tampons to ask stupid things like this. Because it's literally a stranger asking about my whereabouts or plans hoping to be included or get some excitement…

There are restaurants that are outside under a covered patio, or have heat lamps. Covid testing is also free and widely available so I recommend both of you testing beforehand.

I had someone like this eerily similar and I spent countless hours "talking" until things escalated to the point of me blocking. It's toxic. The anxiety, the love declarations, the uneending talks. Enmeshing to the point of incessantly hashing out the contents of his therapy should be a sign to gtfo.

Your virtue signalling is hurting my internet ears. FYI- and I know you didn't ask because that would defeat making assumptions- I turned down the antibodies guy. He was ugly. As for restaurant reopening policies. I suggest writing a letter to your governor? I can't help with that I'm sorry.

If I want to chill and have a drink, I go with friends. If they are not available, I go alone to my favorite bars where I know the bartenders or people who run it. There's no need to give my company to a rando stranger who can't sit down for the duration of a dinner and be interesting, it's a waste of time imo and becomes negative value for my evening.

You could get them to test, and also test yourself. It's pretty easy to do it regularly. Proper / fine restaurants also have socially distanced dividers and outdoor seating with heat lamps. I wouldn't say HVM don't date at all, but it can be part of the vetting process to see if they take precautions and care about their health. I got asked out by someone who caught covid, recovered, and has antibodies, for instance. But definitely no walks.
