Would like to know your thoughts on this, but I think you are literally correct. To me, the underlying point of the ending (which seems very much like a Hollywood happy ending) is that Neo becomes a god-like figure and sacrifices himself to restore the status quo for both man and machine. Everyone in the matrix wakes up as though nothing changed, people in Zion lose their drive to explore the rabbit hole, and the war with the machines is won. Here Neo's actions figuratively shoved the blue pill …
