I would keep houses separate. I know the normal "feminist" reaction would be to set boundaries and not take on unpaid work so your instinct to support your mother and take on emotional labor sounds like the martyr submissive thing. I'd definitely shy away from surgery for now. It's really expensive and you really don't want to get into a Jennifer Grey from Dirty Dancing situation where you fix a "flaw" and end up ruining a part of you that makes you unique.
