Wow, thank you for this. My ex genuinely has a lovely personality and we’re still friends, but he’s a total LVM-emotionally unintelligent, doesn’t take care of himself etc. He’s a good friend and that made it harder to leave when we dated, but he just couldn’t step up as a boyfriend.

Love this! Something that irritates me about a past relationship I had with a LVM was that he never put in the effort I knew I could put in. He would never be able to love me as much as I wanted to be loved, and I wasn’t able to express how much I loved him (lol) because I didn’t want to be the one putting in more effort. Glad to see that’s not the case for everyone and I’m so so happy for you OP!

Ugh thank you so much for speaking about this, I feel like it flies under the radar a lot. I was in an abusive relationship (mostly gaslighting) for only four months and it took me nearly eight months to fully rebuild my intuition and ability to trust my instincts. Abuse is really tough on your brain. Also worth noting that the semester I dated him was my worst in terms of grades!

They’re babies!! Ugh, sorry you had to deal with that. My NVM ex ruined his own birthday (why is this a pattern among men?) a few years ago too because I asked if he wanted to cuddle and he got mad at me for being “clingy.” Right, because people usually hate getting offered extra attention/affection on their birthdays. He could’ve just said no, but decided to sulk for the rest of the day instead. At least we broke up before my birthday, LOL.

Yes!! Ugh, it’s insane to me how men put crazy amounts of effort into the chase and give up the second the woman actually lets him in. WTF. I had a LVM chase me for a full year and when we finally started a relationship, he stopped pursuing me two weeks in. Scrote logic, I guess! Wayyyy too exhausting.

Ugh, I feel this one. An ex of mine would never ask how my day was (I could count the number of times he asked on one hand-we dated for 8 months) and offered absolutely zero emotional support when my aunt (I was very close to her) was dying. Even when I tried to talk to him about it he said little more than “oh” or “I’m sorry.” In retrospect I don’t know why I ever bothered trying to get support from him since he only made me feel worse. Anyway that’s my rant, I’m never wasting my time on someon…

“What can you offer” lol that’s brilliant. And to no one’s surprise he can offer exactly nothing!

My mother used to tell me that if a man is ready to commit to living with you, he should be ready to commit to marriage.

With the time she spent writing about his appalling behavior, she could have packed her bags and dumped him! Men are disgusting...

Ugh, I’m sorry. My ex did the same thing! Used “honesty” as a way of mocking my major choice, my interests, and my ambitions... a year later, he dropped out of our university, meanwhile I’m thriving in the major he belittled. These scrotes are unbelievable!

Using the word simp should be added to the non exhaustive list of red flags. God forbid someone actually likes their partner and shows it?!? So disturbing how they’re still together, I hope she dumps him.

Omg, I saw that post and was SHOCKED that so many people in the comments were telling her to “just talk to him sis! My boyfriend is also fucking disgusting but I told him to stop and now he just saves his gross habits for when I’m not looking! Communicate!!” As if this behavior isn’t totally worthy of being dumped. I don’t understand how these women can even be attracted to men like that...

He withdrew from our university and moved back to his home state because he failed his classes (which he always blamed me for). Lmao Edit: he also got dumped by the girl he always told me not to worry about (the one he started seeing a week after our breakup)

It's all about confidence. I'm 5'9 and my 5'8 ex had a complex. I constantly had to reassure him and he tried to make me feel insecure about being tall... whereas a guy I had a fling with a few years ago was 5'7 and didn't give a crap so neither did I! In fact, he liked my height. Personally I would feel uncomfortable if I was significantly taller but a couple inches don't matter, it just depends on how the guy carries himself.

Absolutely! I didn’t mean that the opposite was also true :) Someone having bad relationship with their family isn’t a red flag and I wouldn’t hold that against them, but I do think it’s nice if they have a good relationship with their family

It's not stupid to get hurt, it's perfectly logical to feel this way! I think most people would. It kind of seems like he was trying to provoke you with that anyway, which is a d*ck move on his part. Take time for yourself to remember what it feels like to thrive away from male validation (YOU are the prize) and get back in the game when you feel ready :-) Also damn, that's super cool!!

-Asks you how you are and how your day was when you see him -Does little things for you completely unprompted (doing the dishes even if he’s the one who cooked the meal, for example) -Good relationship with his family -Has long lasting friendships and interesting hobbies -Knows how to cook for himself and maintain his living space -Makes plans with you before your schedule fills up (=recognizes your time is valuable) -Follows through on his goals I guess they can initially seem like minor things…

If this guy is an airhead and can’t even make you finish, I’d count yourself lucky that he didn’t try to woo you. I know it’s kind of a kick to the ego and I’d probably feel the same way, but it also seems like you weren’t trying to present yourself as a potential girlfriend, just a fwb? So it would make sense that he wouldn’t view you in that way if you made your intentions clear. Still, clearly a LVM if he can move on and enter a new relationship that quickly IMO. I’d suggest taking a break fr…

Yep! Slowly chipped away at my self esteem and then left me for a girl he told me not to worry about lmao. To this day he hasn’t changed a bit... karma!

My worst ex inadvertently gave me a great piece of dating advice. About two months before our breakup he once explicitly told me that he wouldn’t want to be with someone who had already been with a lot of guys and that that would be a dealbreaker. Apparently, the fact that I had only kissed one guy before him was still too much (eye roll). Yes, I let him stay for two months lol we live and we learn. But anyway, that taught me to be extremely vague about my past in the future and I have to say it…

Having emotions is a logical consequence of existing in the world as a human. UGH, so sick of men who close themselves off to basic human experiences.

Men that are only interested in getting to know a woman after sleeping with her aren't really interested in her as a person. IMO, that interest is just a side effect of lust. I'm only 19 so my experience is also pretty limited but this one LVM I was FWBs with only wanted to take me out/pursue me after I had casually slept with him. I think he thought that if he showed interest and strung me along I'd continue having sex with him (he was right lol, not falling for that again). All that to say, do…

So not only was he sexist and pitting women against each other, he aso had to infantilize and belittle you! Omg men are unreal

I agree with this. My own personal experience doesn’t reflect that (I’ve never pursued my ex boyfriends and they’ve still all been various flavors of disappointing and manipulative) but I’ve never seriously dated using FDS yet so it’s probably on me for acting like a pickme once they made their move, lol. After getting dumped, my friend told me she thought that relationships only work when the man likes the woman more than she likes him, which I totally believe.

Good relationship with his parents while also not being immune to their flaws (ie doesn’t glorify his father or allow himself to cling to mommy as a grown man). A great balance.

Pretty much. I wouldn’t be surprised if those were his true colors. Luckily we weren’t together long enough for me to find out.

Another one - pushing your physical boundaries in ways that aren’t necessarily sexual. My first college boyfriend used to randomly grab/hold me because he thought it was “cute” or funny even when I said no or tried to assert any kind of boundary with him. Go figure, he ended up being an abusive narcissist.
