Hey man. I hope you read this. I was kinda where you are now but it was 15 years ago. Your universe has turned upside down and reality is not at all making sense where your mind can’t quite square everything happening. Just breathe. Identify your advocates like your lawyer and hopefully your parents then just stay in that space and listen to their advice. Things are objectively terrible at the moment but it will get better. Maybe not the same as before or even as you imagined but things will get…

I am truly sorry that you went through this and I hope that you're on the path to becoming stronger. I often wish that people would just *try* to understand some issues that are discussed here.... but never would I wish anyone to change because of an assault/transgression.

Depending on the state, prenups can sometimes be set aside or nullified by the courts.

Haha. My username was a total fluke. When I was creating it, I didn't have an idea of what I wanted to use but I had something in my eye and was frantically winking to get it out. That's pretty interesting that in 2011 it was still seemingly unchanged.

True, on average, males are generally larger and stronger. But the vast majority of armed forces positions for intelligence, support, and logistics don't require superior physical strength.

Unsure of how it is now, but when I went to college (years and years ago) 'not signing' prevented me from getting financial aid and even a driver's license renewal. I hope that's not the case anymore. This kinda thing should either affect everyone without exception or no one.

I guess the idea of a witness' credibility is important. Still, it's scary to think of these life-and-death decisions being made in this way. I hadn't (but should have) considered how inaccurate journalists report crime stories. Thanks for the thoughtful reply.

Okay I can see that. I can't imagine how people that get wrongly convicted deal with it. I'd lose my mind.

Serious question: Is this how justice is applied in Texas? Are the standards just lower for that kind of sentence? Like can a person really just testify with a lot of emotion and get people sentenced to prison for life?

Fuck. That pisses me off. I hope things work out for everyone involved.

I'm glad you came to this realization but I'm sorry you both had your evening affected by someone so intent on abuse. I was the 'guy' in your hypothetical situation of 'what if there were no decent witnesses'. A few years ago, I was standing in line at a beach side food stand. Some women pushed in front of me and when I said I was in line they blew me off. Three of them vs. me. Okay. Whatever. Well, when I got up to the front of the line after them the cashier refused to serve me and the manager…

Yeah, as a huge fan of the original movie, it feels like a disrespectful slap in the face to not have the story maintain the continuity. It could've been a new generation of Ghostbusters like how Star Wars passed the baton in VII.

I am actually a 45-ish (46 really) male that lives 'with his mom'. I find the jokes about men-who-live-with-their-moms reveal the prejudices about the person making the comment more than me. I take care of my mom who is retired, in her mid-70's, and has a degenerative bone disease. I'm totally fucking proud that I've been able to step up and take care of this loving person that gave so much of their life and energy to take care of me both growing up and after my divorce when I was 40. I can't te…

When I read the article posted, I felt like that's how it was written... what a crappy way to convey the facts. It's all 'glamour' shots of her. The words "statutory" and "rape" do not appear anywhere in the article at the moment. I can't imagine that her statements are 100% accurate. I feel really bad for the family, not only because of this rape, but because the termination of the pregnancy for her convenience (once she realized CPS was looking into her situation if that's the reason) seems a …

Agree with you. I can see how the post above you is reacting and wants a hypothetical revenge but this would have left the young man's legacy (what there is of it) as a rapist who 'obviously didn't have self-control or respect for another's life'. There's a reason why we don't let victims or relatives dictate punishments for crimes.

I'm really sorry that you're going through this. I can't imagine your level of frustration. I'm convinced it's not a gender thing so much as a 'control and power' thing with any creature.

However we name and title ourselves, anyone genuinely seeking comfort, counseling, and support shouldn't be denied because of how they were born. No downvote for you!

I was that way too especially finding this sub just after a divorce years ago. While there is a lot of 'look look this evil woman is lying and a man is paying the price' postings, there is a decent message here which is that equality is something that has to be worked and spoken for. Don't be afraid of women. Their They're mostly like us in a lot of ways.

Well, if you (or anyone for that matter) has good ideas that can be communicated effectively then go for it! At least chime in like your OP. I'm generally more of a lurker here with an active upvote/downvote finger but I was happy to see your common sense, civil comment. It's pretty amazing how anonymity will give the worst of this community a place to talk from.

I'm with you on this. I replied to the OP with what I thought was an innocuous comment and I've been getting some twisted men messaging me all day.

Might want to add a QR code that points to a URL with neutral citations. Are you posting it with permission from the school? I'm asking because getting officially recognized as a legitimate productive and non-hate group is really important.

I don't see how a sexual or aggressive or gun-toting image of a woman is automatically disrespectful of women in general. I'd have more of a problem seeing an image of a crying naked woman in bondage with a weapon behind her, like I saw on a shirt in a store once. This innocent act (of wearing a shirt) becomes so magnified through our own biases. I'm pretty liberal and this reminds me of a time when I was verbally confronted/attacked in public by a self-proclaimed liberal woman. I was in a park …

I'd recommend it. I saw it with my gf and didn't know the story beforehand. I thought it was just a standard murder mystery but I was thinking about MRA perspectives for much of the movie.

My male cousin had similar instructions while working in college with a group that prepped for on-campus activities. No flirting, joking, laughing, or direct eye contact with women in particular. He was instructed to be terse and say as little as possible. If contacted by someone that needed to talk to him while say setting up tables and chairs and was alone then he was to excuse himself to find one of the female coworkers to be in the same area as a 'chaperone'. For my own story, as a manager a…

In that occasion with my sister at the park (there was another at a restaurant where the cops came because they thought I was some sort of pedo), I tried to call over to the woman who was ID'd as the caller and she wouldn't make eye contact, scooped up her kid, and walked away while the police detained me for questioning. Sadly, it was... just a relief that they (the people there and the cops) didn't somehow twist the situation into something worse. Being accused being a pedo is pretty shitty an…

The same thing happened to me at a playground with my little (half) sister. I was 29 and she was 7 at the time. I was visiting for the weekend and she wanted to go play at the park. While she was playing with the other kids, I just sat on a bench while people watching. Within 15 minutes, two police officers came up from behind and started questioning me about my presence. Apparently one of the mom's had called them and complained about a creep watching the kids. My sister and I were questioned s…

My ex-gf really surprised me when she was firm in wanting "...at least $20,000 spent on a ring." I don't think I ever looked at her the same again.

You can also write off the costs of getting professional tax advice related to a divorce. I also made some mistakes and ended up owing >$8000. I didn't have it and it ended up being a 3 year conversation with the IRS + fines + an audit.

I opted to not pay alimony over time and instead chose to pay upfront. It would have been very painful to pay over time for me since the courts were intending on having me pay alimony 1 year for every year of marriage. The lump sum was (if I may phrase this selfishly for a moment) my life savings after working/saving for 17 years. The courts saw that I had the potential to earn more and already had a skillset, whereas her potential career (as a 1st year teacher) was tenuous and she would need mo…

Things are good for me at the moment. I'm divorced going on 2 years. I've found a good and decent paying job. I am a bit anti-social in a lot of ways. I have a hard time even trusting in friendships, which I find sad but hopefully I'll warm up after some more time passes. I've lost track of my ex-wife. I hope to never deal with her again. Just before the divorce, I had bout of severe depression. I just couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. I'd seemingly do things 'right' like doing chores …

Sorry that this brought up some bad feelings. Until I saw the OP's post, I had done a pretty good job at not thinking about this stuff in a long time. I've been a bachelor for about 3 years and many of my friends have been concerned at my lack of interest in another relationship. Next time, I'll set firmer boundaries and make sure I keep my 'self' intact. Take it easy.

Intellectually, I knew that it was a good income. Great actually since I lived in a rural area where I think the average income was ~$35k. InfallibleBiship replied and mentioned that his ex- was self-medicating with spending. I didn't realize that was what was happening. Maybe it was love goggles or that I was clutching with the most 'faith' I've ever had (I'm not religious) in any person or subject. As far as sacrificed lives go, at least I'm safe and sound. It took a few years. I have a good j…

This dynamic was one of the main problems in my marriage. I didn't realize it was not uncommon actually until I started reading more and speaking to other couples. I was in the same situation as the guy in the example you gave. I made ~90% of the income (+$100k), did all of the cooking, all cleaning in the kitchen and bathrooms. I barely had time to go out and was very frugally living. She was spending more on the credit card than we were bringing in every month and it was my 'fault' that we cou…
