i'm not responding to your baiting any more after this. but if you're able to look at the rampant discrimination that women face constantly - discrimination that enables things like rape, unsafe abortions, slut-shaming, eating disorders, and until very recently, the denial of basic rights like owning property and voting, and equate all this with having one's "panties in a bunch," fuck you.

she's talking about two specific guys who run these companies. she's talking about ed catmull and john lasseter, the only two disney/pixar execs quoted in the la times article. she calls them "guys" and "men" because that is what they are. she is not angry at them for being men, she's angry because of their decision that it isn't worth making movies that appeal mainly to girls.

not at all. i'm saying that there are a lot of fields that are dominated by men partly because women are discouraged from pursuing them by the prevailing culture of the field or by social forces. i saw this first-hand when i studied music composition at a well-regarded conservatory. it was pretty overt, and i knew a lot of women who dropped out of the program (which was already dominated by men) after being made to feel out of place, unvalued and uncomfortable.

several specific disney execs are quoted in the la times article that magowan uses as her source. all of them are male. even if they weren't it wouldn't make a difference. regardless of the gender representation in disney management, magowan's post is about the company's new policy of no longer making movies with female leads or movies that they imagine would appeal "only" to girls.
