This is such a common occurrence I'm sure it has been written about before. It has been. Word for word. This is one of the classic examples of a congruence test (also known as a shit test). The blunt answer is that Dale Carnegie's book is not a pick-up book, and pick-up follows its own rules. The first and most important part of pick-up is generating attraction in women. That comes from displaying sexually attractive traits (social dominance, leadership, wealth, physical fitness, etc). "Being interesting" is not on the list of sexually attractive traits.
