I always thought everyone liked dogs, but some people don't. I'm sure it'll work for you, just because it's backward doesn't mean it's wrong. It's not, dogs are awesome.

Ok, so I'm doing it right. Good to know. Now, according to the video, I should add goofy smiles and be a goober. I can do that. J/K

I agree with this statement.

Work on you first, get it right and okay. Anxiety happens, this is life. You're probably either socially awkward/inexperienced or possibly an introvert. Either way, first you fix you. Stuff isn't right, it won't be right in your interactions with others. Get your mind right first, get comfortable. You need to coax yourself out of your comfort zone until you're socially interacting again often, without anxiety. It's gradual, it could be a bit. From there, work your way back into this stuff slowly…

I'd ask for their name and number, and make a show about looking in my phone for it first...then be like "Nope, apparently not." and get to know her from there. She'll be like "ok..." then probably laughing by the time you're done, if you do it right...with your style and paraphrasing, obviously.

Or, after you've come off as creepy, play it off like a joke.

I got through half of this, thinking it was in /r/writing or something instead.

This is a better lifeprotip than a lot of the ones that end up on my front page. Once your mind is clear and you can focus on the present, everything goes better. It's also good for your health. They're still not done studying the benefits, it's that awesome of a practice.

The only thing I can come up with that'll help you is that all-important first step. There's NOTHING fundamentally wrong with you, probably nothing wrong at all. Even if there actually is, it's the psychological impact of doubts. Get that out of your brain any way you can, kill the doubts and focus on what makes you awesome. After that, things change.

As far as I understand it, looks are really only important by looks. Your example was extreme, and roommate #1 sounds like a buddy of mine from school. Seriously, with loads of personality, confidence, and a sense of humor, anybody in hearing range is already focusing on R1 instead of the big guy. If you haven't seen this phenomena yourself, you need to people-watch more, because seriously. Went to a bar a few months ago with the guy I know that's nearly the same as your example, place was packe…

Does being the frontman to an awesome band actually do that much to improve the opinion of the ladies? Or before/after gigs, because I may be gigging more often than simply going out and doing my thing...Seems like it's a win/win, but is that bs?

My friend who dances just likes getting paid to be hot and dance around. Good money and I guess it's fun. Also, she had a fairly good childhood and did a lot of awesome stuff in college, she just prefers that field.

Idk, they were really cool with all like...4 of those bands I was with. Rhythm section had fedoras, 2/4 soloists as well. Music scene appropriate, obviously, and it really pays to not look like a slob while rocking the whole getup, but yeah. It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing, yaknow.

I substitute the "fake it until you make it" (and variations) for "be awesome" and it seems to be having positive results. Since everyone has an idealized self-image buried in their brain, the real trick is finding it and digging it out...which is probably how the original concept I'm substituting is supposed to work.

If only this post had existed 5+ years ago, when I was in a bad relationship. Still, good advice, beautifully written, and put in a way I might probably remember...making it very helpful.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
