People lie to themselves more than to others. I try to avoid both situations. I'm a lucky sob, my gf is smart, nice, beautiful, sexy, loves sex, is hard working, and about a million other things I love as well. After having a wife that was horrible, I've earned this relationship (IMO).
That's my demand. Not necessarily at the moment, but they have to be working toward that outcome (being self sufficient and improving themselves). Plus hot & boobs, so I'm a sexist pig :-)
This is the world we've created. If we had a social net like Europe, women and children wouldn't be at as much risk for poverty themselves. Look up what child support is in Germany. It's fixed for each child (est of numbers since I'm too lazy to look it up again). 1 ~ 180 Euro/mo, 2 ~ 195 Euro/mo, 3 ~ 215 Euro/mo. That's it, it stops at 3.
