Haaaa.. if you have read Robert Cialdini's seminal work 'Influence,' you must know how important it is to look the part to get your message across. When people like you, they take your message in more easily. Look around you and see who's messages you are influenced by and you will see what I mean :)

I'm not too sure. I think it stems from a cycle of feeling not good enough and then feeling guilty for that which feeds into more feelings of not being good enough
