What a sickening narrative. It's not just McD that is perpetrating it. Look at a lot of sitcoms: strong female lead (usually wife), bumbling oafish male secondary (usually husband); Everybody Loves Raymond is my go-to reference for this phenomenon. I'm noticing that pattern in the book when she talks about her experiences and the experiences of those around her. It seems like it would be obvious, but trying to control everything is exhausting. In fact, I am starting to feel like I actually have less control when I'm trying to run everything.

My thought is this: I generally think alimony is bullshit, but let's face it, it will never go away without a radical change. So a better solution might be to slowly chip away at the "qualifications" for alimony. Principles: END. NO. FAULT. DIVORCE. I agree with that, but I feel that third wave feminism is doing much more damage. How would we get the government to open up mandatory selective service registration for women though? As I mentioned in another comment, I would have gladly signed up for it at the age of 18.
