I am guessing it is a tactical choice by her lawyer. They want to drag it out so much and make it so painful that you would be willing to accept terms that you otherwise would not.

If I were to lose my job during those 66 months I would have been dragged into court on failure to pay. They would not throw me in jail immediately, but give me time to find another job. The court retained jurisdiction on my case (they could have changed the terms of the settlement), so they could have reduced the amount to help during my employment situation. It is not like I would miss one payment and be hauled off to jail, but I would eventually be back in the legal system, which is not fun a…

There were two things that made me decide to divorce her. I had taken a job out of state that would require me to live there for 6 months, but they flew me back and forth every 4 weeks. When I moved, I completely separated our accounts and paid for everything that was a joint debt. She had to pay only her groceries, gasoline and cell phone bill. She was constantly running out of money. I noticed I always had a surplus. This told me she was spending more than she earned (I earned 80k she earned 3…

I used to obsess over how she spent the money. Then I realized that I was keeping it alive with my thoughts so i let it go. I am planning on maxing out my 401k contributions to offset the lack of alimony deductions. I am also going to buy a classic car that I have always wanted. A 1972 Olds Cutlass 442.

Where my divorce took place it was primarily a spreadsheet equation. The courts are so inundated with cases they cant possibly hear and try every divorce. Mine concluded the day before trial started as a negotiating session that sealed the dissolution. Just a way for the lawyers to drag out the cases to keep making money

It was very painful. Please dont take this as humble-bragging: While we were married, our joint income was just a little over $100k. We lived paycheck to paycheck, and had utility disconnect notices almost every other month. After the divorce, my income was reduced by $14,400 per year, but I was able to save $15k for a downpayment on a house. I never had a late bill, overdue payment, and I had money left over at the end of every month. Fast forward to today. I just sold that house and netted a s…

It all depends on what state you live in. I am in Ohio, and it can even depend on the county. The general rule of thumb is one year of alimony for every three years of marriage. If I lived just 20 miles down the road in another county, it could have very well been lifetime alimony.
/r/MGTOW14/09/19 02:40 AM

She was engaged within six months of our divorce. They are still engaged, but I am sure they will be married here shortly. She had to wait to make sure I paid her every dime. That's okay though, I was fully prepared to pay all the way until the end. Oh, and the guy that she is engaged to, they cheat on each other constantly. I am so glad to be rid of her
/r/MGTOW14/09/19 02:38 AM
8

I always used to say it is cheaper to keep her. Then I realized that my time was wasting away and I didnt want to spend the rest of my life with that treacherous woman. Best decision I ever made, even considering the costs
/r/MGTOW14/09/19 02:36 AM
7

Thank you. Well I could show him all the paperwork from the divorce, the stack of bills that I had to pay, and hopefully let him come to his own conclusion. And if I can get at least one of my fellow brothers to think twice about marriage due to my circumstances, then I will be a slightly happier camper.
/r/MGTOW14/09/19 02:34 AM
11

They absolutely charged me that fee. The really messed up thing was that when the divorce was finalized, the withholding was stopped. My ex wanted the child support services to continue withholding it from my check. I asked her why considering the extra 2%. She said she would be afraid I wouldn't pay the alimony. I told her that I would go to jail if I didnt. Let that sink in fellow brothers who are thinking about marriage. You can go to jail if you dont pay up.
/r/MGTOW14/09/19 02:33 AM
20

Looks to me that the downsides are quite limited. She keeps about 25 percent of your investments, but you can always build that back up. With no alimony and child support (the gifts that keep on giving), looks like you came out if this relatively unscathed.

Excellent assertion on the union of MGTOW and freedom. Riding motorcycles, and the freedom that comes from it, is quite enlightening and, dare I say, spiritual. Being one with your thoughts, the whistling wind breathing new life into your soul. Inhaling the scents of nature all around you, as you lean into a corner. Man melding with machine to become one. Riding off into the sunset with not a care in the world. Looks like I talked myself into going for a ride!

Three years prior to filing for divorce I started speaking with lawyers to determine what kind of fucked I would be. He was entirely accurate when I actually went through with the divorce.

It is funny to see a woman try to punish you and it doesn't work out that way. When I offered my ex her settlement ($1600 a month for six years) she went and lawyered up. He told her she deserved $2200 a month for life (she was a college-educated 41 year-old who worked full time). She turned my offer down and dragged the whole thing out over a year. She ended up with $1200 a month for 66 months and a legal bill of over $20000.

"I have very little money saved as I am a single mom of three kids". At 60 years old, her youngest would be in their twenties. Give me a break. My ex (whom I pay $1200 a month to) still uses the "single mom" defense. She's 45 and my kids are 23 and 20. She has saved no money from my alimony. If I am even two days late on payments, she is blowing up my phone. She's painted herself into victimhood because it is easier than making hard choices to better her circumstances.

The payout is for her because many states view that as a long-term marriage which ups the ante for alimony. I had been married for 19 years my ex-wife's counsel was arguing for lifetime alimony (she was 42 when we divorced). Luckily I didn't have to pay lifetime.

I had mine done about a year ago. My insurance covered 100% except for the copay for the return visit a few weeks later to confirm there are no swimmers. My nuts didn't hurt but the incision opened up (they glued it shut and I scratched the hell out of it while I was asleep). Bloodied up a couple of pairs of underwear, but it healed after a week. Couldn't ride my motorcycle for a week afterwards, but other than that, it was the easiest surgery I have ever had. They say no birth control is 100 pe…

As long as lawyers stand to make money by promising the moon and the stars to women for outlandish divorce settlements, then alimony will never be illegal. Remember that many lawmakers are former lawyers and judges, and they have a vested interest in keeping the status quo. If anything, expect "domestic partner" alimony to be a new thing to open a new source of revenue for the family court system

I was in a LDR with a Japanese woman for a while. She only dated white guys, and I found out later that she was still married. She was completely psycho. When we would say our goodbyes for the weekend, she would cry hysterically, but continuously check to see my reaction. She would also get very passive-aggressive and would try to say as many hurtful things as possible. When I ended the relationship she got so crazy she had to get medicated and take medical leave from work.

My guess is that if you asked for that level of service, you'd get a false rape charge, and be hauled off to #meintheassprison

Bad news, it isn't just car insurance. I was married for the better part of 20 years. Our credit history was identical as we were joint on everything down to the last credit card. No derogatories, same inquiries, same repayment history. Her credit was always a good 30 points higher than mine. Institutionalized discrimination

I ghosted a long-term GF three weeks ago. She had a similar shitstorm melt-down, but chose to send messages to my two kids, outlining some sensitive details of our relationship. Luckily my kids were old enough (23 and 20) to look beyond these messages and laugh. It's just disgusting to see the lengths that some women would go through to hurt someone.

It’s all good until they develop the feels, and they are still married. Then they divorce and are looking at you like “when are you going to marry me”. Not worth it

I have a similar story. 19 years of marriage, two teenage children. I made 3 times what she did. I knew I was going to have to pay her for a while. All the lawyers that I spoke to said that my alimony would be around $1500 usd per month for at least 6 years. Hired a lawyer and offered my soon to be ex $1100 per month for 6 months. Obviously she didn’t accept. Her lawyer convinced her I should pay $2200 for life. My ex absolutely fixated on that amount so much that she ignored all reasoning. She …

The scariest part about this is the fact that you have to be three months late for this to kick in. When I was in the midst of divorce (in Ohio), the magistrate set the temporary order back to the date of filing. When this happened I was 4 months in arrears automatically. They posted a derogatory on my credit, and liquidated a small IRA that I had. I had enough money saved to cover the arrearages, but it didn't matter. I hadn't had a chance to miss a CS payment until I was labeled a deadbeat.

Yes, very accurate. I lived this hell for 19 years. Luckily I got it over with 5 years ago. Payments should stop in about 2 years

I was married for 19 years when I had to Have back surgery. The day I came home my ex couldn't wait to get out of the house to go shopping. Didn't see her until after 10 that night. There was no food in the house and I couldn't drive to get something to eat. Learned then that I was on my own, and hired a lawyer 6 months afterwards to divorce her.
