Your OP says their name is silly but that you basically agree the concept exists, possibly including all the enhanced versions of it. This is kind of why I focused on it, because they do widely seem to change the definition at whim, and treating them as equivalent is problematic. My point is that the advanced version exists but is irrelevant to 99% of people, and that the basic version exists but his existence isn't the source of anyone's problems and thus isn't really all that worth talking abo…

I used the term godlike just to illustrate how far from reality they're going, not that I actually feel this way about celebrities. The point is, they (TRP) often come up with constructs that are highly unlikely or distanced from normal human existence and then argue from the view that those constructs are commonplace. It's alien and bizarre, and fundamentally useless. So for starters, you have to reframe 'Chad' as a person who could actually exist in the life of a normal person, which probably …

Average is average. There's no 'how good is average,' the term has a mathematical meaning, and most of the population is going to center around it. Almost certainly, very close to every single person posting here is going to fall pretty close to that average, too! People who think supermodels are average are idiots who don't know what words mean or how math works. What the question does illustrate is the weird effects socialization, media and culture can have on one's perception. I think if most…

I think this is key. There's two sides to the problem. One is generalization: this one girl did X to me, therefore both due to observation bias and generalization, everyone is like this. The other is shallow, incomplete data. They know some girl cheated on some guy (them or a friend) one time, and the only external evidence they have is what the guy was like. They don't tend to be introspective about the details of the relationship or how else it might have gone wrong. So these both yield the mo…

I don't think it's difficult, but I don't have RP standards of 'anything less than supermodel jailbait = over the hill hag'. Regarding your question, I'd say yes/fairly often to most of the questions, but the one about locations/social circles is key: I live in a large city (NYC), went to grad school, etc. My social circle is almost exclusively college educated or better, most have careers in things like tech or finance (with the few oddball free spirits being in the art scene), etc. So I don't …

As with anything in life, the more criteria you add, the less options you're going to have. This applies to car shopping or business as it does to relationships. What's the old adage? "Cheap, fast, good - you can pick 2." Personally, I don't want or care about many of these things so it's not really a concern to me.

Shockingly, men who are paranoid about women prefer women with lower education. I'd argue pretty much the opposite, of course. While defining someone as an 'actual', 'real', or whatever man/woman is silly, if we're talking about an ideal, my ideal is a fully developed, rounded, intelligent, capable human. Education is pretty much the highest universal goal humans can aspire to, as it's the single thing that separates us from the animals.

Again, it's not a question of whether Chad is real or not, in the sense of handsome men existing. Of course they do. It's whether they actually have a magically ability to make any woman cheat on any man merely by walking by, which is not only obviously untrue, but laughable. You may have seen multiple women cheat with your own eyes, but do you know every detail of the relationships they were in? (even if they were with you; failed communication is probably the #1 reason for a relationship going…

Sure, but in that sense it's not really any different than any other word. You could say 'Casanova' = 'seducer.' It doesn't mean much more on its own. Everything else is just people attaching their own insecurities to the whole thing. There's no magical type of guy who is either sufficient or necessary to cause someone to cheat; if they want to cheat, almost anyone will do, and if they don't, someone hot isn't going to make them suddenly do so out of nowhere.

I don't definitively know how many girls any of my male friends have actually slept with; some brag, but that's always dubious, right? I think the only guy I knew well who actually fit the whole Chad mythology was a friend in high school, who did have a pretty steady stream of girlfriends. He was also Asian, so...so much for every stereotype about who likes what, right? But he was smart, charming, and aggressive. So my impression is that social skills matter more than looks, which should shock n…

You might want to look into his actual history. He wasn't particularly unrepresentative in renaissance Italy, and his name only reaches us in particular because he was an author; ie we're basically taking some dudes sex blog as 100% truth. Also, he purchased a lot of prostitutes and slaves (so much for getting it all for free at a whim!), and liked prepubescent girls.

But there's a lot of goalpost moving with the Chad thing, too, which contributes to how ridiculous it comes off. I mean you're right, obviously. Some subset of men exist who are handsome, charming, rich, etc. Some subset of women exist who are supermodels. In either case you're just saying 'the top 1% has their choice', which is... so obvious as to be a meaningless observation. It applies to basically no one in their normal lives. These god-like people are interacting with their own kind, not st…

I pass or get passed by an attractive woman, with her man, and looks at me like, "Oooh." I didn't start talking about cheaters, you did. But I think the arguments apply the same both ways. Neither money nor looks are the sole motivators in any of these things. All you need is basic attraction (and this is much lower of a bar than most people act like, claiming they'll only touch chads/supermodels and everyone else is a pathetic loser/hag) and then the rest is just situational. And money is defin…

Eh. Again, I just think this is factually untrue. The variables for cheating have a lot more to do with the cheater than whoever they inevitably hook up with. I was once the 'other man.' It happened at literally one of the lowest points in my life. I was overweight and out of work. The girl's fiance was stable, normal looking (and very tall), etc. Why did it happen? Because she had commitment fears, insecurity, wasn't a terribly loyal person to start with, etc. She was emotionally cheating on hi…

I don't disagree that successful, happy, fulfilled long-term relationships are difficult, and that there's probably a gap, even moreso for my generation than younger millennials (who have more cynical media), in terms of having constantly been shown happy 'normal' families & assuming this is an easy thing to achieve, and reality. Much like on other topics, TV taught us a lot of bullshit. I mean I agree with your premise in that absolutely looks aren't sufficient either. The idiotic Chad obsessio…

This. Again, this is all just the bizarre hyper insecurity of these guys, the bizarre obsession with Chads, where all the small nuances of actual real life go away. People in happy relationships don't typically sabotage them on a whim. People in unhappy (or even just vaguely unsatisfied) relationships will look for any escape.

If some random people have admitted they're gold diggers, that doesn't particularly refute what I said. Again, you can absolutely buy sex, and that applies anywhere along the line from literal prostitution to relationships based purely on financial gain. You're arguing that X single thing is more important than Y single thing, I'm saying most of the people who talk like this are myopic weirdos, whichever one they pick. Obviously for a pair of adults planning to live and build a life together, fi…

This is the whole issue summed up. Obviously, middle aged women have some difficulties dating, at least in the way they might have at a younger age. But the idea that there's some hard wall at 30, 35, or even 40 is a little bizarre. People age very differently, and all of these guys claiming hard lines would probably fail to actually judge a lot of women's ages by appearance.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/04/17 10:29 AM
1

This always strikes me as a stupid argument. Money and looks are both pretty useful for acquiring no-strings, meaningless sex. In one case you're buying and have more say in what you want, in one case you're getting it for free. If you want any kind of fulfilling relationship, neither thing is sufficient.

I mean, if you're a literal Adonis with a porn dick and women pelt you with their damp panties as soon as you enter a room... by all means, enjoy it? That aside, for normal humans not living inside imagined fantasies on the internet, I think relationships work out decently enough. I wouldn't say the average guy should accept that he has to get married if he wants sex, and pursuing short-term relationships is perfectly fine and fulfilling if you're not looking for a partner. There are also people…

Being as I've dated like a normal person, yes? If things are going well, it's not uncommon to hear something like this framed alongside something more encouraging, ie 'I don't do this right away... but I want to do this again' 'I want to get to know you more', etc. In that case, and it doesn't seem like they're BSing, I have no problem with it and I'm usually happy to play along.

I agree with a lot of posters that face tends to be a bigger maker/breaker than body type. I don't know how you interact with a person at any length if you don't find the center of human communication appealing - and that's something that tends to be 100% personal taste. The range from 1-6 is pretty much all 'normal', so I hardly think there's much to distinguish there., 7 is mostly getting tossed for fake tits. 8 or 9 could make it if I liked their faces. 10 is where it starts getting unhealthy…

They definitely have more impact, which is the unfortunate side of things, because they ultimately derail the (justified) parts of the movement still looking at real issues. I guess this is why I wouldn't bother calling them feminists and why I framed my initial post the same way; when you use the lowest threshold 'applies to nearly every woman alive' definition the term becomes meaningless. So I'd really only bother using it for people who are pursuing some kind of meaningful activism. If anyth…

I'm not saying they're the same style of artists, just highlighting that both of them are riding the same wave of feminist 'cred'. I guess it's probably my error fixating on two black artists or artists from those genres, you could say the same thing about Taylor Swift: she's just as much a girl power figure despite the fact she prances around with Victoria's Secret models and sings about all the boys who dumped her. You're probably right in terms of a huge portion of the 'marriageable' dating market pairing off early, although in a modern context not all of them stay married permanently. I suppose it's a question if this means quality people are returning to circulation, or that most of these are actually mismatches where one (or both) partner(s) were not actually as sane as advertised :) ... that said, I don't think TRP stuff is very applicable to reality for all but a pretty narrow subset, and I don't see…

She's not a feminist. Feminism, as used by people like her and Nicki Minaj, is just a trend to ride on for sales popularity. The music, the content (whether its party tracks or more serious 'Mah man dissed me'), the booty-shaking is literally 100% identical to the R&B, Hip-Hop, etc of 'Ye Olde Patriarchy Days.' It's no more aware or empowered, and no less either. It's just that these days its trendy to be an empowered woman, so if you frame your art like that you'll get insta-sales.

Agriculture, land ownership, and male primogeniture are biological? Again, we literally know how the biology works (men are attracted to sexually available women, are turned on by watching another man have sex right in front of them, etc) and it's not how you're saying it works.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/03/17 06:27 PM

Except this is backwards of what actual biology teaches/shows us. It's a huge preference because it's massively socially conditioned. Slut = bad, whore = bad, etc. That's basic language training that we have our entire lives.

I'm not red but I am somewhat critical of some feminist versions of this so I'll offer my impression: Feminists use the term to highlight and lay blame on various forms of (either male, or collective, ie mass media, but rarely female) discourse that normalize or make light of sexual objectification and assault (generally of women). The problems is that their version basically makes it into some isolated cultural monolith rather than a broader component of general culture, tends to write out fema…

This is already a thing. It would take a bit of searching to find it, but there was an article maybe ~2 years ago (about contemporaneous with the Rolling Stone/UVA thing) about women in college complaining about a lack of date-able men. They already seriously outnumbered them in school, and of course discounted a lot of those men for various reasons (standard higher self-evaluation, wanting to date up, etc). They also felt it gave the men an unfair degree of leverage in that the 'good' ones coul…

Do you think that's reason to do so? That because we can't fix it without compromising our values, we should compromise our values? (Not meant as accusatory, it's just not clear from your post) I mean, I agree it's not fixable (because date rape is often just inherently un-provable), at least without some big changes in how we all live our lives. Widespread personal recording devices are within reach technologically, for example, but they're often illegal and inadmissible in court.

masculine face ratios were not airbushed If you don't think makeup face contouring is a thing, and think it doesn't happen in movies, I don't know what to tell you. No actor looks like what they look like in movies IRL. You're basically a living example of media brainwashing. It's just as much of a thing with men as with the better-known photoshopping/airbrushing of female models. You think something artificial, a stylized, idealized image, is reality. I lost my virginity to a girl who was fairly experienced or even 'slutty,' relative to our age. I can't actually imagining stopping to answer a survey because the taker is wearing heels, but then again I live in a large city and so I'm quite used to ignoring all manner of panhandlers, people with flyers, etc. I know I've seen cute, college-age girls doing surveys on this or that on the street and I'm hardly going to take time out of my day for them just because of their looks, heels or no. It's bad but it's objectively not as bad as murder, by any sensible definition. Rape survivors can lead productive happy lives. Clearly, there's no such thing as a 'murder survivor.' Certainly, some may suffer PTSD for the rest of their lives, but so will many veterans, as well as victims of other sorts of assaults, so it seems bizarre to elevate it above that category of hardship.

This is definitely true, but it also basically encapsulates why feminism is fracturing the left and alienating liberal men who would otherwise be stalwart allies in pretty much every cause. Blackstone's formulation is a core part of a liberal, democratic, civil-rights respecting justice system. But feminists seem bizarrely happy to toss it out the window, adopting the most draconian stances and positions when it comes to rape. I think most (non mouthreather) men would be 100% behind improvements…

They're explicitly not real though, by the very definition of the word, which is why it's ridiculous. They're fictionalized characters from a highly stylized movie based on a highly stylized graphic novel. And while the actors did work out for it, their extreme musculature is airbrushed. So, again, not actually real. This is one of the feminist tropes, particularly in the political context (A feminist theory of international relations/etc is actually taught alongside things like Realism and Liberalism) that stops me from being able to think of myself as a feminist even though I agree with a lot of what they want. It's one of those us vs. them stances that really shoots down any idea of equality being an actual feminist goal. The world is fucked up because of resource scarcity and the fact that all evolution,…

People who are answering no are definitely in an abnormal minority, at least if it's intentional or spurred by some 'pill' or other ideology. If its not intentional, your level of social activity is also probably lower than normal or very specific. It might be worth branching out. This really doesn't exist (esp for women). Abortions are not ''consequence free'' ffs. See my other reply as both of you said the same thing. It was clear that you felt any woman who gets pregnant when the guy doesn't want a kid should get an abortion. I don't know how you've read this from what I've written. If you want to nitpick a textual shorthand, sure, you win. Yes, it's not literally 100% free of all risk, like nearly everything in life. I should have written 'The non life threatening discomfort free better than 99% of the time if both partners use contraceptives responsibly sex train' ... but that's kind of a mouthful and an awkward sentence, yaknow? That's a weird twist of word usage. Stigma in the context I used to it refers to social disapproval of non-procreative sex, not really the outcomes. The chance (small or large, methods depending) of a child is a fact, not a stigma, obviously. But the opposition to belief that 'we are free to do this for enjoyment' is rooted in religious social stigma that has very little to do with the outcome and much more to do with the inherent vilification of gratification (ie, the same religious notions als…

I'm 100% ok with them getting an abortion, yes, if that wasn't clear. My issue is with people using both sides of the argument, telling men to keep it in their pants (which is really wrapped up in the much broader social issue of male sexuality being characterized as as a 'nasty' thing that needs to be guarded against and 'soils' women) while also wanting the freedom to have consequence free sex themselves. I think everyone should be allowed on the consequence free sex train.

This one bothers me alot. You can't square sexual liberation, the idea that people are sexual, are free to be sexual for the enjoyment of it and not for primitive or religious procreative reasons, etc without stigma... and then turn around and claim any dude having sex should expect a child. That same antiquated argument is among those the ones pro-lifers use to deny abortion; that if you're having sex you're signing on for a child. "If you don't want one, keep your legs shut/dick in your pants.…

There's probably different definitions you could use. I'd say penis != man != patriarch, which is what you probably mean by Real Man. It's that middle category you're kind of ignoring? Tbh, I've only gotten negative reactions (even to discussing the topic abstractly, not in specifics of having done it or planning to) from women. It's hard to disagree that someone who cares about his partner's outcomes in an encounter is going to be better in bed. A guy who gives zero shits and just gets himself off is obviously going to be bad, except with maybe a minority of partners who might be that easy to get off as well. Yeah, it's in a million shows (Simpsons, anyone?) and I'd say it's mostly proof that mass media is basically culture distilled, and in comedy that means excising all genuine warmth, emotion, and positive human interaction until all that's left is negativity masquerading as satire. For me it was Home Improvement. The dad was a funny successful... complete moron constantly one step away from literally killing himself on television, the wife was an unappreciative nag. In retrospect, its baffling ho…

Eh. If you just dismiss everyone who doesn't 'swallow your pill' as unenlightened, I can't help you. That's just as narrow a view as the feminists who shout that you can't be an egalitarian without being a feminist. Again, extremes. We agree that there's nothing wrong with acknowledging base biology, and agree that it's wrong to shame people for it. I generally think people are more complicated than their most primitive urges, though, and that it yields a lot of grey area in all our interactions…

Any discussion of Tinder tends to be moronic. I remember a feminist-leaning article a while back that basically boiled down to a bunch of college girls complaining that it got them lots of hook ups but the guys didn't want to love them forever afterward. The article somehow made this a problem with men's attitudes. Anyway, I don't see the logic of this post, and the quoted article even seems contradictory. Overall, I'd rather attack both sides of the dual standard than justify any part of it. Th…

Relationships aren't a solvable science, and vary tremendously between the people involved. So either you're going to get specific advice that might not be applicable, or generic advice (the stuff you list) that's probably useful in a general sense but won't address the specifics of your situation.

I'm not really sure how this post follows from my prior ones, how we got to a point that feels a bit more combative/hostile than before. You asked if mass false accusations is paranoia, I said that it's neither a rampant threat nor a total fabrication. This is precisely what I mean by 'middle of the road' - most things have nuance. I wouldn't disagree with either of your points (and feminists would absolutely agree with the first one, too), so I'm not sure how I've 'given up on the learning proc…

This is amazing advice (I've maybe hit 3/4ths of the list). Best way to improve your life is to live more of it. Even if no one is going to bang you for your great accomplishments, the boost to confidence will do far more for you in the long run.

Ultimately, I can't provide any further insight than the general food-for-thought. I highly suspect it wasn't 'nothing, nothing, nothing... bam,' because that doesn't tend to be how things work! Specifically because your (and other) social groups were not interacting with him, you lack information, and probably missed some key facet in all of this, a route of interaction, a positive quality of his, something with the girls that might have pushed them away from the same social groups that were ig…

People can have as much sex as they want, so long as it's not tied up in other destructive behaviors. In terms of whether one person's history bothers another, that's much like most things: people will probably do best finding partners with similar interests, and that includes libido, sexual adventurousness, etc. It's perfectly Ok for a guy (or girl) to be uncomfortable with a very experienced or inexperienced partner because it reflects a different level of sexuality, different goals, possibly …

I don't think it's hard. It's more like 'believing not everything occurs at a 100% extreme end of the scale,' which I find pretty easy and likely more in line with reality :)

I'm a middle of the road person so my feeling on this is middle of the road as well. False accusations absolutely 100% happen, but they probably don't happen with the wild frequency that TRP folks would suggest, either. If you're the average person having sex following the average social norms of our society and not dating women with obvious emotional problems, your risk is probably negligible. Still, college is a hotbed for this kind of thing because activist feminists and their political count…

Any question like this is going to vary state by state. However, the actual legal standards tend to be a lot tougher than the activist rhetoric (not surprising). I'd be surprised if there was any jurisdiction where just buying someone a drink qualified. However there are certainly some where buying someone 10 drinks, encouraging them to keep going as they progressively lose coherence, etc, would count.

This goes to something I say a lot, that people in general expect / desire better than they reasonably deserve. The average person is average, and wants better than average. That said I'm sure the cause for this is mostly social, see photoshopped BS everywhere, because if humans innately were this ridiculously picky we'd probably not have lasted as a species.

I can't explain the particulars, of course, just guess and extrapolate from what I've seen or experienced. How well did you know the girlfriends? You say he was isolated, but the idea that he approached them out of nowhere and they started dating isn't likely. Did they have classes together? Reasons to interact? Again, I think attraction is actually a very minimal threshold that most people get hung up on way more than is realistic. Humans are designed to pair off. Assuming he had some in, some …

If you're not satisfied in your relationship, you can look outside it (and suffer whatever consequences) or you can find another relationship. I'd never tolerate a sexless long term relationship, but that doesn't make rape ok.

I think the alpha/beta thing is one of the simplifications that trips up RP people. Despite being designed to categorize and explain, it just makes situations more confusing because in the real world things tend to work on nuance and many variables at once. They don't line up in neat categories. To try and address your OP, I think the biggest thing, especially for younger people, is that there are some fundamental road blocks in terms of confidence/interaction. Do the guys without girlfriends no…

Sure. I just doubt you're going to get convincingly clear answers. I guess one of my negative associations with the RP side of thing is how readily they think this kind of stuff can be quantified and 'solved.' Even your numeric ratings are very iffy; personal tastes are very subjective.

Humans are complicated? People have touched on a lot of reasons. It's also just really hard to quantify personal interaction, personalities interacting, chemistry (which can have mindfuck underlying biological factors), etc.

I lived in asia, and certainly dating there was easier (in some respects, anyway), though I do think I benefited from the foreign/exotic angle. The reasoning is going to vary country to country as cultural stuff plays a big role. I think saying American women/dating is nearly impossible is taking it a bit far, but definitely the culture here has shifted in ways that make things paradoxically easier and harder at the same time. Online dating, apps, etc give people more access to a broader number …

I don't know what agenda the initial creators of the study may have had, although it's not unusual for research to be done with the goal of finding a conclusion rather than of merely 'sussing out the facts.' This is true of statistical research in literally every field, of course, it's not some feminist boogyman. But it is (part of) why everyone everywhere should always take statistics with a grain of salt. I do feel that the study's repeated citation is certainly has to be ideological in some q…

As far as I know, the major criticism of the FBI (and other similar) definitions is that they're still penetrative, so generally they're male aggressor only unless an object is used. Even a woman uses drugs or alcohol, she cannot rape a man by having sex with him. Fairness! Conversely, the criticism of overly broad definitions isn't usually at the FBI or similar criminal cases, but at the shady definitions behind things like the '1 in 5' women college statistic, which basically came from a study…

I mean, if you compare unequal things you get unequal results. Most guys aren't rich and powerful by 30, and most are not model-looking. Very few are all of them. Women do have more issues with age, but it's hardly a factor in their 30s. I touched this in another thread, but this issue, in general (for men and women) is a problem with how society ratchets up our expectations. Average men think they deserve supermodels. Average women think they deserve rich, funny, and handsome. Neither of these …

This thread is hilarious. Putting aside that I'm in my 30s and it's therefore dare I say... normal to associate with and potentially find attraction toward such women, I've known plenty who were gorgeous by any standard cultural measure. If you get into celebrities, it's easy to come up with top tier sex symbols in that age range. I mean, I get it, jailbait is jailbait and all that, but most of the guys protesting too much here are just doing as a psychological defense mechanism and it's really …

I'm a guy who is in part critical of the RP crowd (I mostly became aware of it through one friend who started reading it and became very hostile/abusive to the female members of our social circle), but can also sympathize with some of their issues and find agreement on some broader criticisms. The question is framed weirdly, since I don't think the average knows what to expect when reading/interacting with a new group or movement like this. I think the shock/surprise comes from bizarre extremity…

Agree, from the male side. As someone solidly into adulthood with a decent standard of living but also an understanding of how tenuous such a standard is in the modern economy, I have no interest in taking in and financially supporting some hopeless waif with no prospects who happens to be attractive. There's probably some point of being bonkers rich where this would be more plausible, but presently I have zero interest in someone who isn't an independent, functional human being in their own rig…

I don't totally disagree with the OP, but there's a reverse side to it, and ignoring it reflects the unrealistic ways women see and value themselves compared to men. Men were expected and pressured to be married just as much as women. A bachelor of a certain age was a social oddity (and probable homosexual! scary noises), and being one reduced your career opportunities etc. And those pressures, pushing from both ends, made early, widespread marriage the norm regardless of what anyone wanted pers…

It's kind of odd. I've always thought of myself as introverted, but I once lived with someone with actual diagnosed social anxiety and she thought I was very social in terms of how readily I'd mingle etc when we went out. Maybe that was just by contrast, but I guess I do sort of go through the motions of this kind of stuff pretty easily (even without enjoying it). And this kind of default social interaction does trend flirty with women. Not the really trying to attract them, but at least to get …

I lost mine to a more experienced (though also younger) girl. In general, I think it was better that way. She knew what she was doing and helped me get over lacking confidence, and prepped me pretty well for future prospects. I'm older now and I'm dubious it really holds much value. Maybe in some very socially-constructed, fantasy sense, but in the practical? Yikes, no.

She doesn't speak for anyone but herself, but her attitude reflects what I think is a pretty fundamental part of the schism between more activist feminism and its modern detractors. You can't talk about rape culture as the primary problem of modern society but also hold her views on relationship dynamics as valid. You can't argue against objectification while using your sexuality as a commodity or power lever. You can't support 100% male pursuit while bemoaning men as predators, because what exa…
