Tearing up-->full-blown sobbing (depends on the person) is inevitable if you are going to open yourself up to culture, especially with the intention upon expanding your perspective.

Eh, I think you have a pretty limited view of culture. I know where I'm at. I'm on a journey and I'm headed for great things (I've already done great things), but along the way there are other great minds who've walked this road and they've parted what they've learned into our global culture. A lot of this is disposable, but sometimes, someone touches on something true. Maybe I'm just a creative-type, but that's how I see it. Culture set me free and made me a better man. It started a massive jou…

The artist isn't manipulating me to cry. I make the conscious decision to watch a film that I've seen before, that I've studied, that moves me in ways that actually agree with everything you've written, and I allow the catharsis to wash over me. These are the moments of deep personal revelation that give you the inner game to conquer Rome; to fight to the death to get what you want. Napoleon wasn't always great -- he had to get there himself. There are stops along the way that aren't very glorio…

yeah but any real man will cry at least one time to American Beauty. you're talking about situational sadness, something i haven't experienced in a very long time. i find that i am so machinelike that, for my own sanity and humanity, i need films, like American Beauty, to remind me of greater truths beyond my testosterone-oriented reality. i think it's part of being a (modern) man to understand why culture is important, and if you aren't willing to be vulnerable enough, at least with yourself, t…

Please elaborate, because I'm in my 20's right now. What were the 'classic mistakes' that you made? Your post really resonated with me.

I'm kind of opsessed with my own development. Yep! That's basically how it goes.... all or nothing....

he might as well have left out the fact he was autistic. It doesn't change the subject matter much. I just want to add, it's because physical contact is so foreign for so many Aspies. I know it's awkward for neurotypicals, I understand that, but it's a whole other level for Aspies. Some Aspies don't even like YOU to touch them, let alone initiate physical contact. It's like we're not even aware of it to find it awkward in the first place, so hopefully one can use that to their advantage by learn…

I didn't intend on the post getting popular. I just wanted to share my experience. The advice was for me. I shared a post last week too and deleted it after I had gotten the advice I needed, but this post was just more of a recap. However, I know that in the future, there will be those with autism searching seduction, like I was, and now my topic will turn up in the results. So I think that's how it can be extra useful.

You sound surprisingly coherent Because you aren't aware of the other 2+ decades of my life. It took a lot to get this coherent... a LOT.... some borderline religious and transcendental experiences (in addition to many, many thoughts of suicide... that's all in the past though)... I didn't have social coaching, like most identified Aspies have now, in school. So I had to learn on my own. People weren't as aware of how far the spectrum went, when I was in elementary school (the most important age…

In general what I'm learning on here has never not applied to my regular interaction / social life. Take out the sexual side of it, and there's a LOT of crossover. That's why I had so much fun last night because I just was interacting with everyone, using the same general principles of confidence. I think Aspies don't realize they actually have a major advantage, due to their inherent self-focus, but there's this initial disadvantage that takes forever to get past, just to get on the -same- leve…

The first moment I found the escalation ladder and read it, I had this really clear moment of nirvana... I breathed in and out and just felt this feeling of calm like I've never felt before.. all anxiety left me. I don't think people realize how big of a deal that escalation ladder is for us Aspies. It's like the FIRST thing you should look at.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
