But when he does approach, he does so aggressively in such a way that maximizes his perceived value. Cost-benefit ratio of putting effort toward women is too high for an Alpha when he can have a low cost-benefit ratio by putting effort to improve himself. I do not dismiss the possibility of a high-value woman to be worth approaching, however. The Alpha doesn't need high-value women in his life--he only needs himself. The difference between Alpha and Beta is that Alphas put effort into improving themselves while Betas put effort into women. Alpha will have more SMV since he puts more effort into himself than does the Beta and thus will have an easier time with women.
