It was and still is my rule of thumb, whoever asks for the date, pays. If I invite you, male or female, date, business, or casual, I pay. If you invite me, I expect you to pay, unless we agree to go dutch beforehand. When I was dating, if the other party had a problem with me paying the check, I would say, I invited you so I'll pay. You invite me next time and you can pay.

I am currently in a fight to reduce alimony in UT. It has taken or will take over a year for the judge to hear the case. There was court ordered mediation that was a complete waste of time. Document everything. Perhaps try to seek other employment, because at least in my case, if you were capable of making X, then only make X/2, that is your fault and so you need to continue paying... at least in the eyes of the court. If you are unable to continue making X at any company, perhaps due to market …

Dude, I let out a "confident fart" our first night together. We got married a year-ish later.

I am fighting this right now. Edit: UT family court Married 34 years. Wife never worked, never did housework, never got education... because I made enough for the both of us. At time of divorce, I made 10k/mo and had about 400k net worth. My lawyers and hers told me I was facing 30 years of 5k/mo alimony and 200k in cash. I settled, begrudgingly, on 3k/mo for 8 years. I then lost my job, the job market tanked, but i got another at 8k/mo. I am 55 and was supposed to retire early with the net wort…

I left LDS right after I moved out during the separation. I realized what a cage i had been in for over 40 years. I am now free to eat, drink, smoke, and screw whatever and whomever I wish. Except for the crushing alimony and her taking all of my cash, life is good outside the cage.

Thanks. No, I will not be lawyering up again, unless it is for short projects like depositions or document review. CoPilot and ChatGPT are fine and I'd rather succeed or fail due to my own competency rather than let someone else do it. These lawyers are just like cops. They protect each other and when they screw up, you have no recourse other than maybe filing a complaint that will take years to resolve. So, fuck them. Ill do it myself. AI took my job, so why not let AI take theirs.

Married 34 years. The jail time would be for contempt of court. I have already been threatened once with jail time for not paying alimony.

What will that get me? What I've read is that it helps the next guy, not me.

I second this. The risk of an incompetent lawyer fucking up your future is too great. Use CoPilot or ChatGPT to draw up the docs and do it. If you can move to a state like TX where the alimony laws favor the man, do it, then file from there (after like 6 months)

Id say move to a state like TX where alimony laws favor the man. Establish residency for like 6 months then file for divorce. Perhaps wait until the 15yo is 18. Do it before you have any assets to split up. Do it before you get a better job. Mine blindsided me by filing for divorce in UT right after I finally made enough money to have a nice positive net worth. She never worked, never supported my schooling, never worked around the house. The only reason I didnt divorce sooner after fhe kids wer…

I'm in a similar boat. 53, divorcing, ready to fuck off to philippines with all the cash and let her try to collect. If you believe YouTube, an expat can live in Philippines for about 1k-2k/mo. Even more doable if you can work remotely as a digital nomad.

I'm in similar boat facing similar decisions, except child support. I have considered moving abroad. My problem is how do I move all the money to keep it safe?

Yeah, no Father's day acknowledgement from either child. I am a joint account holder on the bank account for the one who blocked me. I found out that she is financing my STBEWs lawyer too.

They can't do anything until and unless I am served right?

She could though? I could get by with 170k + the 24k from the car. Then open a new credit card account later.

Can I go to my bank in UT, withdraw cash, take it to WY, put it in a WY bank, then fuck off to Europe, then open a european bank and transfer?

My wife has all the account information. She knows, as of right now, where all the money is. I have considered cashing out, taking the cash to another state, all while avoiding service. I believe that if I am out of state (or country) and they can't find me to serve me, there is a default restricted judgement, which she can be awarded only in-state assets and no alimony. I am worried about my credit cards and having access to those in the case I am 'avoiding service' and default restricted judge…

What does cashing out a bank account do for me? What if there is ATRO in place (there isn't, at least not yet)
/r/Divorce_Men19/06/23 04:59 PM

Thanks. I have read about ways of delaying. Replacing the judge wasn't on the list. I'll look into it. Also, there is the appeal afterwards too, right?

The house was sold last year. No debt. Car is paid off. Bulk of net worth is cash, car, and 401k/investment. 90% of the net worth was created in the last 4 years, in which she did nothing: no job, no household duties, no "wifely duties". Her ace in the hole is that she is critically ill. She is likely not to even survive the divorce proceedings. She is the one wanting the divorce.

I use CCleaner and the DoD data wipe, but that isn't 100%. I'm not sure anything is 100% safe from a forensic analyst.

Very true. I am a Cybersecurity Professional and currently use NordVPN. I haven't always used the VPN so there might be traces out there

She does and that's the main reason for the divorce, even though she has never seen me do it, nor can prove it.

Lol, if she mentions porn addiction, I can counter sue for slander... nice. I'll discuss with attorney. I use NordVPN on my phone and PC. I don't think there is anyway she can find anything.

Unclear at this point. She might, if her lawyer puts that bug in her ear.

I haven't consented to anything. I just figure that a court has the power to subpoena internet records during a divorce.

That was my argument to her. Porn used as a mastubatory aid is no different than sex toys. Also, what about those visions you have in your head when masterbating without porn, is that a factor too?

I think she can use it, especially in Utah, as emotional distress, but also, I think it is irrelevant in a divorce. I m meeting with a divorce lawyer next week though.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
