Ive tweaked my topic to discuss if online controversial groups have led to an increase of hate crimes. By incel I was referring to those who partake in the incel online forums. By definition I know it’s those who identify as involuntary celibate, however I was going to discuss in the context of Incel.is etc

I was thinking about posting it in a womens group, however being female myself I feel as though I already hold the general opinion women have on this topic. Thanks for your insight! Perhaps if i included in the title to define what incel means in todays media & take it from there? You’re right though, i think there is an issue in how i’ve laid the foundation for my question. Although the topic of “Incels” & misogyny interest me greatly, it is a difficult topic to define and further research

Thanks for your help! Your suggestion of studying the perception of women on different social media platforms actually seems like a great idea!! My only issue here being as I’m doing double honours psychology & criminology, I have to back my topic with criminological aspects, which is why I included misogynistic crimes in my original idea. But i guess I could still link said crimes to this topic. Thanks again dude :)

Don’t get me wrong, after reviewing literature in the field and after conducting my research I doubt my conclusion will be “yes it’s black and white online hate groups = increased crime.” This was just a rough post to gain an insight on what mens opinions on this topic would be. No I do not believe this is an online hate group. What i am currently conducting is a research proposal for my final dissertation. Any issues with said research will be analysed and reviewed by my course directors before I write my final piece. No specific agenda here, nor am i a troll. It was a quick post to gain an insight on mens general opinion on the topic via social media before I decide whether I want to use this topic or not.
