Actually, it looks like from the angle her hand is drawn that she is not holding the shank directly behind his neck, but slightly to her left. Which, imho, seems more deadly, as she would only have meat to pierce through, and the man has to contend with the vertebrae.

That's why I included a qualifier in my statement. Saying they aren't supposed to decide guilt or innocence, does not imply that bad, poorly trained officers don't murder civilians, nor am I suggesting that they aren't protected from deserved prosecution for it. I was clarifying my previous point that if someone makes a false accusation, it's on the state to drop the charges, not the police.

After watching that, and the piece on Last Week Tonight the other day, the only thing I can say is so much for a right to a fair trial. Court of public opinion, and the media's spin on the story for ratings is the trial you get...

That's not the job of the police though. They make an arrest, and investigate the crime, they don't proclaim innocence on a false charge. At most they would tell the states attorney their is no evidence to substantiate the claim of the accuser, who would then decide to drop the case or go forward.
