I am all for humanising "incels" and other people with severe mental health issues, and with not criminalising and stigmatising the unattractive and the awkward, but there have been at least two incel mass killers. The guy with the nice car who made a manifesto and shot a bunch of people, and I think a guy with a van. They identified themselves as "incel", I think.

I subscribe to both this sub and that one. I have found things I agree with on both, and like to see both perspectives. However, over there, I have also seen a user unironically refer to himself as a "Low Value Man" and saying that he was aware of being one and that was his lot in life. This interiorised hate of ourselves does not help us become "better" to anyone. I think it is a way to keep men from achieving class consciousness, and some of that branch of discourse includes regressive, counte…

My ex is a prominent researcher on the plight of "the disappeared" and their families - the people who vanished without a trace, generally killed by organised crime or by right-wing governments in Latin America - An issue that greatly increased in Mexico in 2007 with the "war on drugs". Most of the activists here are mothers or widows, but there are also priests. A majority of victims are male, but not a huge margin of difference.

What "help" and "support" do they offer?

I love this so much.

I appreciate your thoughts. The fact that I saw much of myself here pretty much proves what I have to do. Self consolation really does not help. It has been long enough. I am done. I greatly appreciate your help.

Oh no. Welp. Then that part I did not like. This being said, I will take action on myself next year so I guess my ending is better.

This hurt to read. I didn't really understand the ending though.

Your sharing this is just right. I hope.you can get out.b It does me no good at my age. But will they wash their hands when I am gone? Before I take action next year, at least I feel pretty vindicated I found this community. I wish something like this had existed in my twenties. I watched everybody around me build families. Find love. Struggle through tough times with a partner to lean on. All the while I had nothing. Because nobody was expressing interest in me and I was terrified of doing so f…

I used to teach history of literature. Campbell, Jung, and the hero's journey were a good thing to give to the younger generation. It was a better time for sure.

Yeah, well. They still won and I won't just live like this as a useful tool. I will at least tell everyone off before the big day, not that they'll care that they made this happen.

There is none anymore. I am out of time, never lived what I wanted, and I'm turning forty alone in a world that hates me. I do want to go to my favourite place for a symbolic sendoff, and that needs the pandemic to end.

Which is why I have until some time next year.

Holy shit. An article that doesn't hate me, call me a rapist, or want me to die and doesn't tell me to kill myself or that I am worthless for feeling sad that nobody wants me. Almost science fucking fiction. I mean, I'm still going to kill myself next year, but hey, not everyone was against me. I've got that going for me, which is nice.

Some specific men get to "open up" as part of their privilege. The rest of us, man up, work, die in silence.

What I read on another sub was "women are not there for your emotional labour" and if you have problems, you have to solve them on your own, or you are being abusive. And yet I also read that you should be open and share yourself. I believe what they want is for some of us to share a bit of ourselves and look cool doing it, and other of us to shut up and/or kill ourselves. The variety of recommendations as to be a good man, but also solve our problems within, and be fair and live happily has lef…

Off My Chest will ban you instantly, not without a bunch of responses blaming you. True Off My Chest has kind of had a very strange bias lately. More than half of the posts for a while there were like "I am X race, and let me tell you why I hate X race too", and "I am X sexual preference, and let me tell you why I hate X sexual preference as a community".

Dworkin is the least friendly of the feminist framework, perhaps just under Solanas, to have anyone read as a way to feel welcome or introduced to the movement. Many would feel very alienated with her work, and that would hurt the movement more than attract more people to explore it. I think Lamas would be a far better reading for either side, or to those on the fence. But I don't think she has been translated to English.

You get it, comrade. And if it helps you any, I get exactly what you are saying. In the end, can we truly stop being who we are? And if we could, is there a reason we should? I think not.

I understand this. However, he could just have asked "Why are you a communist?" without resorting to direct attacks. I would have loved to answer that, in a friendly manner. I have done so to many people in meatspace. He did not come to argue in good faith, and it showed with his second comment. I saw the man's profile after this, and it came clear the kind of person he was. However, I shall let it go. I thank you for your response and attention.

I am fortunate enough to have a field of work in which my "freak flag" can fly freely, since I work in academic contexts. It has taken me a long time to get here, but I have learned to "hide my power level" so to speak, regarding these issues, so I can actually pass as neurotypical, at least enough to survive as a professor or a translator. This helps me interact socially as well, within my own limits. The world today is very difficult to navigate, even in normal circumstances, though. I feel li…

Men can't have depression, anxiety, or fibromyalgia. I know, because that's what I was told when I had my hours cut almost to none at a very humanistic university. This decision was taken by a woman, who had had depression, anxiety, and FM, just like me. She did tell me to seek help with the psychological department at the university, though. That sure would help me recover my work and livelihood, right?

I can agree with this. I am an older POC queer Communist from Latin America. I have actually lost jobs for not forming part of the right wing local parties. I have been discriminated, arrested and abused more than once. I am banned from some socialist, not even communist, subs, with no previous warning, for not being "left" enough, or because my ideas "sound like Elizabeth Warren" (Whom I started watching after the comment, by the way. I was expecting Ann Coulter for this to be an insult). I mea…

When our children fear any mistake they make will ruin their lives and are living on anti-depressants and spiraling down a path of self destruction. Yeah, this has been my life so far. Here's hoping I don't fuck up and at least I can kill myself and die alone without actually being accused of something. Yay.

Did the boys punish her? Did the boys make the dress code? I work in a high school. We had no dress code until we hade a very bitter female principal (think Mrs. Umbridge in her early 30s) complain about girls' outfits and boys' shirts.

Boy, am I glad I don't live or teach in the States... My male students, high school level, generally shake my hand. Would that alone land me in prison? So do many of the females. However, I have had quite a few unsolicited hugs, among other displays of friendly affection. I take two steps back all the time, but I'm still hugged and patted on the back and handshook. Hell, it's customary, in Latin America, to have a lot of physical contact (kiss on the cheek, even!), and while I consider it a bit …

In my ideal world, gender is an outdated social construct. You are a human and have exactly the same rights and obligations - date whoever you want, do whatever job you want, and be the person you want to be. Gender is not correlated to graduation rate, or to science - because we no longer really see gender as an issue or as a set of instructions. Either gender can take power, and either gender has the same responsibility, because we no longer prejudge based on gender. Everything in this world i…

This, a thousand times. I once had a great partner who started having contact with really shitty, shallow, and overall trashy friends. And some of these friends really wanted to fuck her. So they gave her "advice" and completely ruined many aspects of her. Her life really sucked for a while after this (dropped out, became a bar-hopping "party" lady, went astray overall). And just because she was easily influenced. She is an awesome human being, and is slowly recovering from this, though. At leas…

I am always open to a good wall of text, comrade. It might be adversity that finally brings humanity to a new level? I both like and fear that. And you are definitely well versed in Star Trek. I recall one of the problems in the IVth movie is their lack of cash or a culture of using said cash. That detail stuck with me back then. About hard and unpleasant jobs, I could think of Japanese culture, which being collectivist, has cooperation with others, and the greater good, as an ingrained concept.…

I am not precisely a young liberal either, sir. Wish I were. And what's with the accusations of plagiarism this guy is spouting? And what's with the "college reading" straw man? Heh, though I'm kind of glad someone sees me as a young one. Thanks for standing up for old liberals, comrade.

Ah, I sort of see this now. 1) I thought you were saying I was not a true communist, like that "true scotsman" argument. I bungled the nationality. Damn geography! 2) I am a reasonable communist. For me, the ideal is true communism, but we will not get there before the hybrid version. Being reasonable, not totalitarian, is a sort of "new" communism. 3) Post-Scarcity, in my very idealistic point of view, would be a lot like earth in the Star Trek universe. Or like the ideal communism that Marx pr…

Not an Irishman either. I believe the ideal state of the world, post-scarcity, is a naturally communist society. And also, that all progress should aspire to that goal. I also believe in taking steps towards that goal. If for now, the first step towards true equality, and towards escaping capitalism, is the hybrid system, then I like that system. It has my beliefs and those of the people who oppose them. I don't think that a violent, radical overthrow of the current capitalist system is a viable…

Stalinist socialism failed for a variety of political reasons, indeed. The fact that the Soviet Union collapsed, however, is not the end-all be-all argument in favour of unrestrained capitalism. If we go to that extreme, capitalism will fail also. I think we should take communist, socialist, and capitalist ideas, and turn them into a system that permits individual growth without sacrificing the wellbeing of the whole of society. And, well, I believe the objective of any and all political and eco…

Did the bad educated elite scare you? If you equate "growing up" with giving up knowledge or becoming conservative, you are probably the type of American that sees me as "the other", to be feared or mocked. I, on the other hand, see you as a person with different ideas that could have something interesting to say, other than insults and "witty" remarks. This being said, I wish I were a sophomore in college. You kids have awesome technology that I wish I'd had back in the day. Joking aside, we're…

I'm not an MRA but I simpathise with their plight. I'm a communist, which is what you can call an extreme left liberal. But I really like to hear comments from all sides, conservative, liberal, feminist, MRA, neutral. Otherwise, how is one to expand their mind?

The 4 jurors who voted not to execute did so because of the domestic violence claims. "She was obviously a victim" was the actual quote from one of them, according to CNN.
