I try and have a pamper night at least once a week (usually the night before a stressful day) and I love getting into bed after applying body lotion from head-to-toe, clean hair that has had a hair mask on and freshly painted nails. Just knowing that the next day my skin will be smooth, hair shiny and nails looking pretty really boosts my confidence. I also love spritzing perfume and applying lip balm just before leaving the house. I like knowing that when I walk past people they'll get a subtle…

I get that, but I also know many others my age who live with their parents. If I was to be in a student flat I would be relying on my parents for money each week. Whereas living at home, I support myself in terms of all my expenses, I have my own car, etc. As soon as I'm done with university I guess moving out is the first thing that will be on my to-do list. I think I'm putting off moving out because deep down I always thought I'd move straight from my parents' home to live with a fiancé or hus…

I've seen the types, the late 20s/early 30s girs in the supermarket with their gym gear on looking so beautiful. I guess that's the type of girl I want to be when I'm there age.

Thank you for your advice. I guess my basic plan should be finish my degree whilst working on myself (more exercise, eating healthier) then afterwards either go on to do a masters and move into student residence or get a job and save to be able to move out.

I can't tell if you're emphasising 22 as being young or old?! I'm glad to hear that things turned around for you, that's great to hear. Was it a change in mindset or circumstances that changed things for you?

It's so daunting to think that I only have three years left. But I've been wearing SPF for years now, don't drink and don't smoke so hopefully I'll be ok. Yeah my weight is probably the thing I need to dedicate a lot of time to. I have a good hour glass figure naturally, but it's carrying too much weight, it's such a waste of a good waist-to-hip ratio. I'll definitely start smiling more and trying to seem more friendly and approachable.

I don't dress feminine now that I think about it. I used to, but I've now fallen into the trap of wearing the basic student uniform of skinny jeans, Converse and a comfy jumper. I'm going shopping next weekend so will try and find some more feminine pieces to add to my wardrobe. My makeup is simple: foundation, blusher, highlighter and mascara. My hair I'm pretty good at spending time on, it's shiny and long and I straighten it or curl it. However, I always wear it half-up-half-down to get it ou…

I'm quite relaxed when around guys and have had male friends in the past. I just don't like approaching people (male or female). I'm very reserved and like to be a bit of a wallflower I guess.

I know that it's my biggest problem. I guess I'll start by straightening my posture and trying to have always wear a slight smile.

Only very, very rarely. I'm a student so the only work my hands do is typing and writing so they tend to last a decent amount of time. Have you tried using topcoats?

University: I've been motivated on catching up with all my classes and keeping on top of all the reading, however this has meant skipping classes in favour of staying in my PJs and opening up the lecture online and going through it which means I'm missing out on meeting new classmates. I have packed my bag for tomorrow and even though the content is something I have already studied I will go purely to put myself out there in the World. I caught reflection of myself yesterday when out shopping an…

Thank you once again for all the posts, I just reread them to refresh them all in my mind. I thought I would post a little update. I have been curling my hair more because I think it looks more flattering than dead straight on me and I've been wearing more feminine clothes. I have noticed a slight difference for example when walking around my town guys have honked at me and a group of school guys shouted 'my friend thinks you're hot' at me... So it seems that I'm slightly more visible to males b…

Ooh that sounds so pretty, I have to wear my hair up when I'm in the lab so I'll have to try that, thank you! :)

I found this Youtuber and I was wondering what do you all think of her as being someone to model myself to. I like her natural looking makeup and her long curly hair but I'm not sure if the whole pink thing would be seen as too infantile for a 20 year old? She is my age. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmE5mOqPQj4

This was incredibly helpful, thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this. I love the examples you give and I like the phrases you used. I think I'll find it helpful when figuring out what to wear if I aim for girlfriend material attire at university and bombshell for the evenings. One thing I will add is I am from England rather than America but I find that British girls tend to dress in a more edgier style than Americans which will further set myself apart from the crowds.

I wear a little bit of makeup but honestly I think having three brothers who would tease me when I wore nail polish when I was younger has made me a little bit worried about wearing obvious makeup. At the moment I wear foundation, concealer and blusher. I want to make the jump into wearing mascara which sounds so silly when I write it but it's just so noticeable... ahh.

I agree but I think that a few swaps (like the ones you mentioned) won't require much more effort or time than my current outfits. I enjoy getting ready and making my hair and makeup look nice in the mornings, it makes me feel more confident. :)

Thank you for all the responses so far. :) I'm looked in my wardrobe and I've found a few pieces that are more feminine (floaty materials, lace, etc) which I will use to replace the knitted jumpers for now. I'm actually going clothes shopping this weekend so I will look for some ankle boots and skirts and dresses. I have a small lab class tomorrow afternoon which will be the first time that I'm in a more social environment with my new peers where we will engage in group work so I'm excited. :)

It's currently Autumn and I just find them too cold to wear. Plus I personally don't like wearing cardigans with dresses because it hides my best asset which is my waist. I wear dresses in the summer though.

Luckily I have never gotten into alcohol so refraining from it is as natural as breathing for me. Thank you. :)

I'm a little apprehensive about counting calories because I did that before and I almost developed an ED. Thanks for all your recommendations. :) Did you find an obvious difference between yourself at 20 when you thought you'd be alone to when you got into a relationship? Like is there any specific things that, looking back, you see were holding you back?

Ooh that sounds really good, I actually know of some yoga classes near me so I'll look into that. :)

Unfortunately I'm not religious which is a shame because there is a church near me which has lots of events for people my age. I'll look at the societies pages at my university to see if anything appeals to me. :)

Thank you! I will join the gym in September, it's something I've been wanting to do for a while but never done. I read How to Win Friends and Influence People last year and really enjoyed it but I will make more of an effort to use the principles written in that book.

Extended my skincare routine. I've always slathered on moisturiser but in the past few months I've also started using serums, eye cream, night cream and face masks. Learning to drive Going on daily 1 hour long walks with my dog
