Ah yes, good old "No True Scotsman Feminist" argument. But that version of feminism isn't REAL feminism!

Exactly, they always say gaslighting stuff like "Feminism is about equality - we care about men's issues too!" Then it's absolute crickets or just the usual "Those problems aren't real" or "You're a misogynist" as soon as those men's issues are brought up.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/06/24 11:25 AM

No, because a man who becomes trans isn't really a woman and a women who becomes trans isn't really a man. Slowly but surely more people are waking up and pushing back against the charade.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/06/24 11:05 AM

I'm sure you've heard and discounted the reasons because it's easier to just blame "The Patriarchy" or something

I found Hillary Clinton's reddit account! "Women have always been the primary victims of war. Women lose their husbands, their fathers, their sons in combat." Definitely not a misandrist
/r/PurplePillDebate13/06/24 10:58 AM

I already believed that most men are invisible to women, but my short time on this sub since coming back to Reddit has all but proved it. The gaslighting comments I've seen are insane - from suggesting that men in any way have an advantage in dating to outright implying that any man struggling with romance is struggling because they're a bad person. The frequency with which any point of view criticizing women is just responded with "You're a misogynist" (and that it fucking WORKS, both here and …

If dating were like going grocery shopping, women would be upset that they keep buying moldy bread - meanwhile men are locked outside looking through the window.

This is literally just proof that women don't even treat undesirable men as human. I mean talk about gaslighting - you struggle with your dating life? It's obviously because you're a complete piece of shit person!

It only makes sense they'd think this way - their dates come to them just for existing. They can't fathom that it doesn't work that way for men.

Holy shit, someone with the balls to say it straight up. I'm so tired of hearing about how lower-middle class young men like myself have been oppressing women because feminists don't know what Apex Fallacies are.

One minute it's "It's never okay to assume a woman is pregnant", the next it's "Men ignore pregnant women because they know they can't fuck them." Anything to blame men, right?

I honestly can't stand when women make condescending remarks at the expense of (unwillingly) single men. Like they get all the attention they want just for existing pretty much. They have no idea how invisible us average guys are.

Men don't have the luxury of having romantic chances come to them - if someone they're with is "good enough" it's not worth losing them looking for that perfect someone.

I can attest to this as well. As a teen I had overwhelming feelings of shame and guilt for being sexually attracted to girls/young women, and it actually played a major part in my mental health issues during that time because it made me feel like a piece of shit who didn't deserve anyone.

/r/PurplePillDebate03/06/24 09:57 PM

Men have constantly been told we're not good enough, we need to do better, keep working on ourselves, etc. It isn't motivating at all to be honest - it's gotten old and beyond patronizing how it's always the man's fault. Meanwhile all women are 10/10 queens 👸

Here's an anecdote to counter your anecdote: I also graduated last year, and there was a girl in my class I would talk to sometimes who was very pretty. About a month before we graduated, I overheard her talking with a friend who was teasing her for sleeping with two different guys (who were friends with each other) in the same week. Her defense was: "Well I'm graduating in a month and I won't see them again so whatever." There, now our anecdotes cancel out.

I definitely feel this - I've rented an apartment with my best friend for a few years now, and we do a lot of things together but we're both bachelors. When we're hanging out in public there's often undertones of, "So you two are just friends, right?" Like yes we actually are just friends and sharing an apartment is simply a logical choice in this economy...

To me this is fundamental - I will never be open-minded about feminism and how "oppressed" women are as long as they continue to downplay the significance of forced conscription. Hell, even in the U.S. where realistically a full-scale draft probably won't happen again, women's exemption from Selective Service requirements juxtaposed with all the rights men forfeit by not registering is fundamentally unjust.
/r/PurplePillDebate31/05/24 12:14 PM

Someone on here made a comment (incorrectly) explaining what The Wall is and criticizing it for being misogynistic and "not wholesome". Like, it's biologically true that women in their 40s generally aren't turning heads like they were in their 20s. Biology doesn't give a fuck about being "wholesome". But of course stating the obvious is misogyny.

I actually agree, we all need to be more skeptical of sources and "research". There's tons of surveys, studies, etc. that can be weaponized to drive a narrative and it isn't hard to find some that support your preexisting viewpoints. Just remember that it works that way for both men and women.

You've already done quite a bit of mental gymnastics by defining the Wall as "Women are useless after their prime fertile years." It's about looks fading, and let's face it - a woman in her 40s is generally not turning heads the way she was twenty years ago. This is biological fact, and reality doesn't care about being "wholesome" or afraid of being called a misogynist. It must be nice to be able to throw out that term anytime you're faced with an unpleasant truth, by the way.
/r/PurplePillDebate24/05/24 12:24 AM

Thanks for some realist advice. My question is: are men's issues just doomed to never get attention? Men are too busy/too conditioned to be stoic and never talk about what issues they're facing. Since women don't give a fuck about our problems (and they make up more than half of the voting population) can we even do anything to push back against society's apathy?

There's one main ex, and many small interactions that have added up over time, combined with how naive of a hopeless romantic I used to be until the illusion was shattered. Part of the high single-motherhood comes from the "Strong and independent, don't need no man" ideal convincing women that they can raise a baby without a second parent around. That selfishness puts their ego above what the child truly needs.

Okay but men are the ones scrutinized for their every action, where one woman might find his actions endearing and another might find them sexist. Individuals are free to be different, but men get the short end of the stick for not being mind-readers about each and every situation.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/05/24 06:16 PM

No offense to you, but this is also part of why so many men are involuntarily single these days. Dating apps suck, you can't meet people at work because it'll almost always be seen as inappropriate, and you can't go up and talk to strangers anymore. So how are we supposed to meet new people?

/r/PurplePillDebate15/05/24 11:35 AM

Here's another comparison you probably won't like: dating for men is like trying to get a job interview that you're expected to pay to attend.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/05/24 11:26 AM

This exactly. Women tend offer no empathy to this problem - just spouting out the same "nobody is obligated to date you" rhetoric. They tend to take for granted the advantages of having offers come to them and picking the best one, meanwhile the average man these days gets nothing.

I actually agree in taking issue with both terms, but the point is it would take the popularizing of calling out "Toxic Femininity" to make society realize it's gone too far with its parallel.

Yes, it's totally a made up fantasy that thousands of men have had their lives destroyed by contracts that award one party cash and prizes for breaking it. That's never happened in reality to a single person.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/05/24 11:16 PM

Here's a thought: maybe to the 99% of normal men out there who don't go around harassing and groping women, choosing the bear is incredibly hurtful and disrespectful. Any time a man makes such sweeping generalizations about women based on the bad ones he is labeled a sexist, but when it's reversed it's totally acceptable to society.

Bottom line is that, ultimately, people should be free to sexualize and be sexualized to an amount of their choosing. Not everyone is always on the same page, unfortunately, but that doesn't mean it's right to try to assign an across-the-board standard for everyone.

As someone who studied choral music education in college, fuck anyone who demands that all choirs be mixed, and that goes both ways. You wouldn't demand that an electric guitar be allowed in a classical orchestra, nor would you demand that a drum kit be added to an a capella group, and something like this case is no different. Men and women have different voices (boys and girls slightly less different, but still), and that means music for an all-men's group isn't necessarily commutative. The sam…

I've had a group of friends since high school (8+ years), all males. Sometime this year one of them started telling us that he loved us. I remember getting a bad grade on a math quiz that literally wasn't even math, it was just taking word problems and breaking them down into if -> then statements. I did everything correctly, except for the fact that I omitted the word then (E.g. If I have 10 apples and proceed to eat 2, I now have 8.) I did every single problem this way and she marked them ALL wrong. Maybe that's why I've always been so adamant about recognizing what someone actually means and not just the words they use.

I had a legitimately sexist teacher in middle school. Gave me a straight up F on a project while talking down to me about how little I must have cared to turn in such a bad project. I told my parents and they basically bitched her out until she gave me a C for it. That's nice and all, but that's not how the term gets used. It's often used when criticizing the actions of an individual, blaming those actions and that person on the fact that he's a man, and implies that men across the board are simply incapable of avoiding such behavior. Some of these other answers aren't 100% accurate. In the first part of the movie he's in a heterosexual relationship, then that relationship fails after a few things (his sexual curiosity, the life of a touring rock star) and the rest of the film focuses primarily on his homosexual ones. (The main focus overall isn't actually on his sexuality, but it certainly is a significant theme.)

Just to let you know, although the movie does contain scenes depicting Freddie's sexuality, they are done tastefully and aren't really the focal point of the film. Ugh it really bothers me when these things happen and people eat it up. Like when the creators of a show or movie or video game brag about their character being gay, for example, and then proceed to pat themselves on the back for how "progressive" they're being when its obvious pandering. Like the character's sexuality never even becomes relevant to the plot; its just a bullet point the creators brag about to earn brownie points. And then some people call me a homophobe when I say I don't buy it…

That's part of the double standard - if you insult a woman for having small breasts or anything comparable you're a shallow asshole, but society still makes fun of how large your penis needs to be to be "manly". I know better than to pin this one purely on some feminist regime but that double standard has always pissed me off.

Its really funny how 1st and 2nd wave feminism were generally sex-positive and encouraging of individual agency over one's sexuality, and modern feminism is now being so outraged any time a woman voluntarily does something sexual that it actually represses women's freedom to make their own sex life choices...

Which is also why I stand my ground when people perpetuate the lies that fraternities are just "rape clubs". I've been involved in a fraternity for 4+ years and not a single brother of mine has ever committed anything close to sexual assault nor would they, and I speculate that's true of at least 95% of all men in all fraternities. Men need commradery with other men as they're developing; unfortunately a few bad eggs have ruined the reputation of fraternities.

This is such a toxic and unhealthy perspective to be forcing onto other people. Crying is a perfectly natural response to bad news occuring, and there is nothing wrong with doing so. Maybe it isn't productive. But human beings are not meant to be productive 100% of the time. People cope with things in their own ways, and for most people crying is included in that process. How dare you imply that the only reason a person would ever cry is to seek attention?

I don't give a fuck. There is NO FUCKING REASON for a 9-year old's "love letters" to end up in any form of legal dispute. The whole point of the movie is that the fairy tale trope of love of first sight didn't work out. That's what the movie is about. That's not her dumb "female judgment"; it's the fantastical ideals of fairy tale love being turned upside down in this movie. That's not a female thing. That's a people thing. And again, it's a 100-minute Disney film. I think you're scrutinizing it too harshly.
/r/MensRights14/06/17 03:14 PM
1

Why is it poor "female" judgment??? Anna and Elsa are characters in a fucking Disney movie. The decisions they made are part of a 100-minute film primary made for children. If you wanted a gripping series of intense scrutiny before making a decision you're looking at the wrong genre. And why do their actions have to be "female judgment"? Let them be individual characters instead of assigning them to be representative of their entire sex.
/r/MensRights14/06/17 02:12 PM

Yeah I love Frozen and I think it's kind of a stretch to have such an impression of the film. Hanz and the old rich dude who's name I forgot are just undesirable characters in their own black-and-white ways because it's a Disney movie with like 100 minutes of screen time. Who watches a Disney movie and gets upset that one of its characters makes men look bad?

I live in VA. And yeah, that's the requirement to be a certified teacher here, even for elementary schools. So why did you choose teaching instead of a STEM field? Just so you know, that's not usually how that works. At least in my state, you aren't certified to teach on just a bachelor's degree alone: you need a Master's or a couple other options of comparable qualification. This means that it's more common for people to study a specific subject (perhaps STEM, perhaps not) as an undergraduate and then pursue an education Master's degree. /r/MensRights21/09/16 03:56 PM

I never said an absolute. You're implying I said all MRAs are like the way I described, which is not what I said. I said there is a portion of the total subscribers here who behave in the manner I described. You providing evidence that it's not everyone does not disprove my point. If I post a comment saying that some turtles are green, then you post a response with 15 examples of red turtles, it doesn't prove that there are no green turtles.

No more slapping - Why I stopped slapping my boyfriend in the face https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLQ4_GKXN3o Many of the comments on the reddit post were calling her a selfish bitch who wanted attention for not being a terrible person when the entire point of the video was that hitting your boyfriend isn't okay. Also they were upset that she would ever hit him in the first place, when the scenario she described was purely for demonstration.

After the comments in that PSA to stop slapping your boyfriends, I've realized that many people in /r/MensRights are only interested in being pissed off at things instead of thinking logically and having rational discussion.

/r/MensRights14/09/16 09:39 PM

/r/MensRights14/09/16 09:37 PM

It's a lighthearted PSA, sure, but it's still a PSA in support of our issues. Stop being upset just because it's not super fucking dramatic.
/r/MensRights14/09/16 09:36 PM
14

Yeah this thread is pissing me off. Some people here are legitimately upset because a PSA in support of an issue we face uses an accessible title and a lighthearted tone. The "slap" she gave her boyfriend, and acting surprised that he didn't like it, is not serious, and it really is obvious if you spend more than 5 seconds thinking about it before getting upset.
/r/MensRights14/09/16 09:35 PM
4

Jesus Christ, this is a PSA. How the fuck do you guys manage to be so offended about something that's actually in support of us?
/r/MensRights14/09/16 09:33 PM
123

It's fairly obvious that this line is tongue-in-cheek. Can we stop over-analyzing every single minute detail in a video that's actually serving as a PSA for a very real issue we face? We need to be grateful that videos like this even exist instead of being offended that she included a small joke.
/r/MensRights14/09/16 09:31 PM
35

Can we not encourage this kind of whiny attitude? The video is a PSA. It's incredibly obvious that she didn't actually approve of slapping her boyfriend, nor was she actually surprised that he wasn't okay with it. It was a hypothetical scenario created for the purpose of demonstration. We need to stop being offended about something lighthearted when it's actually in support of the issues we face.

Absolutely. I plan on reading more of it over the weekend. I find it very fascinating.

I completely understand, and agree. Just today, I directly referenced your point about stereotypes versus racism, that a stereotype is factually based and not necessarily racist (I apologize if I'm not speaking very coherently; it's almost midnight here). I also borrowed your correlation versus causation argument - perhaps the best explanation of a point I've previously failed to explain - when my friend mistakenly called a stereotype racist (impeccable timing, I know). I think I need to be goin…

I read about one page the other night when I first discovered it, but I haven't had time to sit down and read anything close to the majority of it. I do find philosophy fascinating, even though I have no formal (or even informal) education on it. The post I recall the best was about the woman who accused a Facebook image of being racist, despite not having any mention of racist. I've seen that image before, and while I was smart enough to understand that it was not racist, I'd never before consi…

I can't say I can relate to your drug problem, although I do understand that many people struggle with it. At the very least, I know you're very intelligent. I don't feel I can really change the way you feel about this, but I want you to know that even though I don't know you (other than what I saw in your post history), I care about you. I'll never meet you, as I live in the U.S., and I may not ever communicate with you ever again, on reddit or otherwise, but the thought of you hurting yourself…

I know exactly how you feel. Trust me. You're not alone in feeling this way; if nothing else I say to you matters, at least listen to that. As far as being forcefully taken to a "loony bin", I cannot deny your claim, as I do not know you or your life, but I can tell you my experience. When I was in high school, my depression was controlling my life. Every day I went home and cried myself to sleep about how badly I wanted to end my life. I made stupid facebook posts about how terrible my life was…

I'm not sure if anything has changed for you in a month, but if I can still reach you: you're NOT a freak. You seem to exhibit symptoms of clinical depression, a disorder I've suffered from for over 4 years. I'm not a therapist, psychiatrist, etc., but I've been to them, and they really do help. If you truly believe you may harm yourself or others, I highly recommend, in fact I ask of you, to call someone, perhaps Suicide HotLine. You can remain anonymous if you so choose. If you are a student, …

Yea, I see that point. It's a bit hard to explain, but I was in a music theory/lecture class, and the teacher was working with another student privately, trying to help improve one of their assignments. I wasn't working because most of that class is listening and taking notes, which there wasn't anything to take notes on at the time. I think you're right about striking versus restraining, but I admit I'm not perfect and acted out of frustration.

I think in general, this can pertain to the quality of the date in general. (Sorry for the redundancy) Taking a woman to McDonalds surely couldn't be as pleasurable as, say, a common $10-$15 per person dine-in, regardless of who/how you pay. I also don't have any problem with treating a woman to a dinner or drinks or etc., so long as I'm doing it because it's a nice thing to do and not because I'm "supposed" too.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
