I got that exact “apology” from my mom. Although my dad wasn’t absent, he was military and deployed a lot. Her apology was “I’m sorry you feel like that but your father was gone and I didn’t know how to handle such a wild child. You had fits over the seams of your socks! I didn’t know how to handle you!” Thanks mom, for that non-apology-apology.
