Honestly both would be solutions. And it seems like both are represented in men's rights movement. It's definitely an interesting discussion. It seems to me like one requires empowerment on each person, other requires compassion toward others. They both have their places. Why do you think one is better than the other?

I agree the fault doesn't entirely lie with men. But I think there is a certain attitude that can help. And it is owning the vulnerability with strength. An attitude like, "I'm feeling weak, but I deserve respect god damn it!" Demand and claim our right to be weak. Do it with strength.

We need to learn to be vulnerable and strong at the same time. We can do that.

Can you elaborate?

The nature of compassion is such that it arises in response to perceived vulnerability. We aren't good at being vulnerable. That's why we aren't getting compassion. We need to learn to be vulnerable and strong at the same time.

Rights are taken, not given.

If we believe it others will believe it too.

That's exactly my point. That view is what we need to try to change. We need to have the guts to say something along the lines of "My value as a man doesn't depend on my strength. I'm weak at this moment. But I'm a man god damn it!! And I deserve respect!"

It saddens me to see such resistance to this idea from men's movement. That means we'll have to learn it the hard way. That is, by being dominated in all areas of society, be seen as disposable, and disrespected for many many decades. Then maybe we'll realize something else is needed. If you think it is bad now, you'll have a bad time because it hasn't even started yet. Women are becoming more and more complete people. They are becoming more and more strong, independent, all the while maintainin…

The nature of compassion is such that it rises in response to a perceived vulnerability. You can't say I'm going to hide my vulnerability and still want compassion. To look at it from the other side, respect is something that arises from perceived strength. That's why we tell women they need to work for the things they want rather than it be given to them if they want our respect. They can't just say I just want to be given things and still want respect.

I'm sure you are intentionally disregarding what I mean by the construct of "masculinity". I guess that is also a valid perspective. The problem is, things go forward not backwards. There was a time when men were masculine and women were feminine. That didn't work. That's why we are here.

Men, white men in particular, are that devil No. The construct of "masculinity" is that devil. You either want to be that devil or you don't.

We disagree.

Men need to be able to step out of the "masculine" role that is drawn for them. To me that's the problem.

I think you have to give credit to the women's rights movement for female empowerment. Look at what a woman is in the 40s and 50s, and look at what it is now. It wouldn't be realistic to not see the empowerment. Yes the tide may have turned the other way and there is no balance, but I think that's because men's rights movement is in its infancy.

It is ok to be a victim. That's my point. It's not to compete who is more victimized. Everyone can get victimized. It's ok.

So if men are considered the devil, how are they going to get more rights? even in cases where it may be true... If something is true, it needs to be known to be true.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
