True. If you aren't having fun in the moment, I would advise against trying to unnaturally have a long conversation. I think generally though, the longer you speak to someone the better your chances are, since you are more comfortable with the person.

Get a phone with a front-facing camera, and endlessly take photos of yourself until you can pose well. This is what I did.

The best way to make friends is to be in scheduled activities with others. Like being in the same classes is one way. Without scheduled activities, there's not really incentive enough (like sex with women) to initiate normal friendships. This is actually something I need to improve on too. Making friends after college has been really difficult for me.
