Eh, while I understand the double standard, I often make violent joke threats and the like. It's my type of humour. I'm not sure the best way to defeat feminism is to turn into the male equivalent of the humorless PC feminist - "Don't say that! That's offensive to men!"

You ask a very general question, and then link to an (outdated) article that's only about judicial stoning in Iran for adultery. Are you referring specifically to that, or are asking about worldwide stoning victims (of which many might be men or boys for thieving or the like)? Given your username though (and a lack of history), I'm inclined to believe you're simply trolling.

He certainly got fucked by the mother, but it doesn't seem like he has much of a case, in regards to the state. She was married. The state assumed the baby was her husband's (who signed off on the abortion), and the biological father never did any of the paperwork to claim otherwise. A suit against the woman, sure. A suit against the state, not so much.

I think at this point the word 'privilege' has just devolved into a meaningless buzzword for people of certain ideologically stripe. She might not even knows exactly what she means by it (besides it's something bad).

The biggest 'part of the problem' in this case are the voters of New Jersey - anyone who isn't writing their lawmakers over things like this is the major part of the problem. The police are following "lawful" orders. The police selectively choosing which laws to enforce creates more problems and more corruption, and it's already bad enough these days. IMHO, I think it should be the other way around - let the police enforce every law on the books. Ticket anyone jaywalking, arrest everyone downloa…

I didn't realize, I've only read articles that were linked here, so I incorrectly assumed it was like avoiceformen et al. The quality of the article was overall good, I meant quality over quantity in terms of picking examples to back up the argument.

While I agree with the overall point - that people submitted via this form could find themselves on a 'list' without any due process - some of the examples given are stretching it. I.e. I'm not sure a list on a bathroom wall - erased by the university - is quite the same as the prior examples of campus wide public shaming that wasn't slapped down by the university. I feel like a lot of the MRA blogs go for quantity over quality sometimes. A few very good examples are better than a hodgepodge of …

I'd come with some sort of authoritative-seeming gender-neutral 'signs of an emotionally abusive relationship'. Either send it to him via e-mail (assuming it doesn't get monitored by his wife) with a note like "something to think about" or maybe print it out and bring it in person. So it doesn't look like it's just your opinion. i.e Some quick googling found some decent sites, they seem to have gender-neutral language but often gender-specific illustrations i.e this article (good except for the …

People who actually know video games are not her audience. The same way when political groups claim "violent video games are causing violence", they're not trying to tell their message to actual video gamers.

That is generally the fight of every subculture. The argument, as an example, that punk is not just a musical genre but a political movement, and 'major label' bands can never be truly punk, etc. Your average hipster, when s/he complains that something is 'so mainstream' isn't doing it out of purely elitism. For that matter, if you asked on the majority of the subs on reddit if they wanted to be added to r/all (the reddit equivalent of mainstream), there would be a lot of complaints that doing s…

Every subculture does this holier-than-thou bit, that's what the rest of my point is about. Whether it's 'hipster' geek (Yeah, I liked comics before they were cool. They were much better then.), or 'punk' geek (You're playing a game by EA? Mainstream sell-out), or 'pious' geek (I spend sixty hours a week gaming, your twelve hours a week doesn't qualify you as a geek), and you get the same types in almost all subcultures from the more conservative/hardcore elements.

Yeah, that's exactly when I thought when I saw this titles. I can imagine an uber-feminist in America doing the same thing - their neo-puritanism meeting actual puritanism. Person 7 told the truth. There are some fake geek girls out there. They're Janie-Come-Latelies who only recently got into geek culture after the PS2 era suddenly made Blockbuster Gaming a big deal. They aren't part of actual geek culture and don't have the experiences of social persecution owing to atypical interests and being quirky/weird/too smart/not 'normal.' While I agree in principle, I think in this case, the teacher had no choice but to complain in order to cover her own ass. He gave her a relatively intimate hug in a public place - if she didn't complain, she could be in danger of being suspected of something indecent with the student. The whole litigious nature of our society makes the PC-ness worse. I.e., if you have two guys and a woman at work. Guy A tells slightly risque joke. Woman doesn't react that well. Guy B can't stay neutral - he eit…

That's what I've always heard, but from this article, it seems the taliban isn't above such practices themselves. It seems they took a "do as I say, not as I do" approach.
/r/MensRights10/12/13 06:20 AM

Yeah, if someone has their hands full, the "traditional" method is always appreciated, regardless of gender. I think it's the "Ladies first" part of the "traditional" method that upsets some people, not the actual holding the door open.

Interesting, I remember hearing that the Taliban actually cracked down on the pedophiliac practices when they were in charge. It seems they only cracked down externally, not internally.

I usually go through and then hold the door open behind me until they either have their hand on it (hopefully to hold it for the next person) or are far enough past that it won't whack them. It does have its downsides though - at times (in small corridors or the like) I've ended up half-blocking the way trying to keep the door open. And then there's always when someone is not quite at the door behind you, and you have to decide if they are close enough to warrant waiting and keeping open or not.
/r/MensRights10/12/13 01:52 AM
11

I've never gotten any bad feedback from keeping the door open for the person (guy or gal) BEHIND me (as it's been edited to). Note that the 'traditional' method would be that a man would open the door for a lady, let her go first, and then go in behind her. That's what could rub an ideologue the wrong way.

The father hasn't gotten any money yet, and I wouldn't give him any either. There's a huge gap between not blaming someone for their child's mental illness - and giving them a million dollars. Maybe we should give the state a few million too, as they didn't do enough either. But, yes, clearly, since I complain about one woman, I hate all women. Thanks for reminding me of the sort of crazy that led me to stop calling myself a feminist.

They can't be that much 'SRS crazy brigade' - there's only one person 'featured' in the header, and he's a white male (yes, I know its Chomsky - but still I'd assume the SRS would insist on a female/minority/etc. 'anarchists' to even it out). Horrific, though this part from the wikipedia article stood out to me: Fullerton City Council had agreed to pay Thomas' mother one million dollars as a settlement of her civil complaints against the city. There might be some confusion in terms. Radical doesn't mean any extreme/fringe feminist - "Radical Feminism" is actually the name of a subset of feminism (ala how Methodists are subset of Protestantism) and it refers to someone who believes in their specific ideas and philosophy, versus say a Marxist Feminist or a liberal feminist, who believe slightly different things. I don't exactly know all the differences, but afaik "Radical Feminism" is the one that blames everything on 'patriarchy', and …

Well, a lot of online stuff can be very circle-jerky, but it's the nature of all online things. Part of maturing is being able to filter through it yourself and tell what's full of shit and what's useful. You can get involved with one of the sub-issues without getting involved in all of MRM. I.e. the anti-circumcision movement is relatively separate from MRM - it's growing more quickly and many of them would not even considered themselves part of MRA. You know, I completely believe that it's uncommon for victims of rape to lie, and that false rape claims are relatively rare. In fact, I believe that about the majority victims of any crime. However, the entire reason we have a criminal justice system is that sometimes people do lie - or even have different interpretations of the same event, and we can't tell just by looking at them. We have to go through and weigh all the facts and evidence. And this doesn't change based on the type of crime.

I really wish there was a bit more context to this - I don't know how this could possibly even have gotten to court. Had they committed to spending $50,000 on the wedding and they couldn't get it back when it was cancelled or something? The news report implies it was called off because he was cheating, and that's about it.

I don't think that's 'radical feminism', I think that's pretty standard feminism, no? I mean she didn't say the word 'patriarchy' even once. Practically speaking, given that the general population is getting fatter and less like these advertisements every year, I'm not sure they're quite having the effect she thinks they are.

I doubt this would hold up court if pressed. It's like saying if you see someone committing suicide, and you don't try and stop them, you're guilty. Though, having said that, I remember a case where parents were successfully sued when kids (friends of their children) drank at their house when they were away and then got into an accident.

This presentation is sort of all over the place. It's very difficult to try to fit in all mens rights issues in a short presentation. More so, you're jumping around between a set of randomly grouped high-level statistics and highlighting very narrow issues. The things you've chosen to highlight - paternity fraud, false rape accusations - are both the most likely to get people upset and extremely narrowly focused compared to the generalness of the presentation. They're, IMHO, the ones feminism li…

That's so sad, it's exactly the problem with having a set 'score limit' if it's not taking into account how much they're being improved. And inner city males are probably the most poorly served group by our school system. We'll find out in a month or two when she sentenced. While I unfortunately doubt she'll get ten for the 'fraud' (as the crime is labeled) that resulted in her victim to lose a decade of his life, we can hope that the multiple crimes against her (in multiple jurisdictions) end up adding to something significant.

This isn't violence by proxy. Violence by proxy would be one girl telling her boyfriend "that girl badmouthed me, go fight her boyfriend to defend my honor" etc. This is essentially them directly starting some bullshit and their boyfriends jumping in because "they've got their back" or what not.

Well, in general, telling a woman you're interested in her because of physical traits (beyond just general attractiveness), and not her personality, makes them unhappy and labels you as 'creepy'. They like to feel special, and talking about the physical makes them feel interchangeable/disposable. Writing a woman online and saying "I want to date you because I like women with big breasts" is going to get a worse response than telling her about all the common interests you have, etc. (which you wo…

I'd suggest she gets therapy. She has guilt over this, and she's trying to alleviate it by misplacing it on him. Talking it out with a therapist might help her - she can't talk it out with your friend without just blaming him. Your friend should get therapy too if he feels it necessary. Honestly, this relationship is probably doomed, but I think it would be very hard to convince your friend to leave at this point in time.

I don't think penis size is as much an issue - by the time it gets to that point, it's rarely going to be deal breaker, unless it's the straw that breaks the camel's back, so to speak. Being short is absolutely a huge strike for a guy in dating. By far the biggest. And while women definitely put more work into looking attractive (i.e. clothes, make-up), I'm not sure whether that's more to attract men or impress other women.

Absolutely. Include 'legacy admissions' (i.e. dad and granddad went here, and donate money, so you get in even if your grades are shit), a form of affirmative action that no one ever talks about, but IMHO, is as unfair as racial/gender based admissions.

The article he's referring to is ridiculous. The heading blurb opens with One of the Movember mantras is: “Real men, growing real moustaches, talking about real issues”. - said 'mantra' she seems to get entirely from one youtube advertisement for a supplement company. I've said this before, but 'creepy' for guys is basically the equivalent to 'crazy' for girls (though creepy ends up being more socially harmful for various reasons - i.e. far more guys will take a chance on a crazy girl than girls on a creepy guy, despite "don't stick your dick in crazy"). Some anti-abortion groups absolutely used to do it (and perhaps were some of the first ones to do it on the internet AFAIK (see 'nuremberg files', etc.)). However, they would list home addresses/contact information of abortion doctors and workers, not anyone that disagreed with them - so it's a bit different. This isn't a terribly relevant comparison - as they're completely different crimes, only related because it's said lying woman, who's a has been by media standards. A more telling comparison would be the number of stories about the rape claims, versus those who actually bothered covering the outcome (i.e. that they were found false). If boys have a different sense of personal space and bodily integrity than girls, you groom them to overcome that instinct I wouldn't agree with the methods here, but I would say that this is one of the more clearly 'socialized' aspects of masculinity (ala it stems from the fear of being called 'gay'). Maybe I'm confused, but it seems like the question asked on the study you linked was: "If women(men) hook up or have sex with lots of people, I respect them less" which is present tense, not past tense. This is ridiculous, specialization is generally considered a good thing. Though I'm not sure this is purely a gender issue - i.e. if a stylist serves primarily black clientele, it makes sense for them to be very good a doing weaves and extensions, but not needing to be an expert in perms (and, for course, vice versa).

So does this mean that there can't be more than 50% of women as well?

Not to disagree that prostate cancer is an important issue, but I feel like all the recent "mens" focus is on it, and nothing on testicular cancer, which, while rarer, strikes earlier but is very curable if caught early enough. Can anyone come up with a catchy version of a slogan, something like "Before 40 check the front, after 40, check the back"? :P

That study was about the university students - one of the most liberal and feminist-skewing groups in society, not of the general public (ala my first question). Feminist ideology hasn't completely won yet. I was primarily talking about when people stop being promiscuous - that a reformed player is no longer 'damaging' women and considered essentially eligible 'dating material', while a reformed slut is considered still damaged goods (even if she's no longer doing 'damage' to herself). Simply, t…

Are you arguing about feminists or society in general? To a feminist, a player could be seen as worse than a slut, definitely. For general society, a slut (and female promiscuity in general) is still worse than being a player. A woman is more likely to date a guy who's been with 30 girls than the other way around (and this is still pretty true even among relatively 'liberal' guys - last week my friend broke up with his girlfriend of 6 months when he figured out she'd been with 30+ guys before hi…

I actually disagree with the primary premise of his argument, which seems to be that even discounting pregnancy, women have more health needs (and thus go to the doctor more). I think it's more of a cultural imposition where men are supposed to be tough and take care of there own problems. Consequently, men ignore problems for too long and don't go to the doctor enough, which in turn contributes to their shorter life spans. As an example, testicular cancer is one of the most treatable types of c…

I googled, and according to this site: http://www.fiercegoodbye.com/?S=2 Gay men are 6 times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual counterparts (and lesbians twice as likely). If we assume gays are 5-10% of the population (and that their attempts are as likely to succeed), that'd mean that about 40% of males suicide deaths are gay men, and maybe 15% of female suicide rates are lesbians. So given the 4:1 overall ratio, that would mean, it's about 2.5:1 for heterosexuals.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
