Wow, you've really won me over with that tremendous argument. If you read my original post, you'd see that I support many of the issues discussed on this sub. I'm not an enemy of the Men's Rights movement by any means but I think its approach to feminism is flawed.

The point is, men do not suffer from a lack of rights. In certain cases they suffer from a lack of sufficient or equal enforcement of the rights they do have. By your logic, people don't have a right to life because some people get murdered.

The point is, the really radical people who consider themselves feminists are often not feminists at all (that is, if they don't fully support equal rights). Most feminists are moderate, do care about equal rights, and agree that men face some serious issues that need to be solved. Those people shouldn't be dismissed as extreme man-haters; they should be supported and cooperated with by the Men's Rights movement, because they have similar objectives.

Well, given that the reception this post is getting I wouldn't say this sub is particularly tolerant of different perspectives either. At least in /r/feminism they accept that many of the issues faced by men are legitimate, whereas in this sub any suggestion that feminism may have some validity, or that women face any problems at all is seemingly instantly mass-downvoted.

If performed by a trained professional in a safe environment, circumcision is entirely safe, and has tangible health benefits, whereas FGM is deliberate damage of the female genitals. Circumcision is not intended to damage the genitals. Out of interest, if you are totally opposed to 'mutilation' of a child's body without their consent, is it wrong for the umbilical cord of a newborn child to be cut (without their consent)?

Both men and women have the right not to have their genitals mutilated. Now, I'd accept that in some cases that right isn't implemented and enforced properly, but the right definitely exists. However, comparing FGM to circumcision is totally ridiculous anyway. They're totally different.

You're implying that a movement that focuses on gender equality can be used to actively harm one gender, which is objectively untrue. If a movement could be used to actively harm one gender, it could not, by definition, be a movement about gender equality. I'm aware of the criticisms of feminism on here, but I believe these can mostly be attributed to extreme fringe members of the feminist movement, who are unrepresentative of the vast majority of moderate feminists who genuinely support gender equality. Do you support gender equality? If you do, you're a feminist. A lot of people are misinformed about feminism, partly because people assume that all feminists are radical man-haters (an interpretation that is constantly perpetuated by this sub). Whether other women support it or not is irrelevant.

Two questions: Firstly, what in your opinion are the goals and aspirations of the modern feminist movement? Secondly, since you assert that it would be valid for feminism to be called the Female Rights movement if it were about missing rights for females, what RIGHTS do men actually lack? I can accept that sometimes men face problems in society, but I don't think these are based on a lack of rights.
