Find a healthy obsession, something you never want to stop engaging in. If you have one, what is your obsession? My family did too fortunately, the 90s were just bad for everyone in the Balkans (system collapse, wars, you name it). It is feasable. I managed to reach an intermediate level of German on duolingo coupled with watching a ton of German TV shows on loop. Once you know how the story goes, you can focus on the words, pronounciation, etc. Best of luck to your language learning journey! | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 02/10/20 09:58 PM
Find a healthy obsession, something you never want to stop engaging in. If you have one, what is your obsession?Without of course, no subtitles back then. We were getting italian tv channels with makeshift antennas made out of coca cola cans. Ah to be poor | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 02/10/20 09:44 PM
Find a healthy obsession, something you never want to stop engaging in. If you have one, what is your obsession? Also, learning a language for TV or from TV is absolutely not silly and it's one of the best ways to learn imo. That's how myself and an entire generation of 90s albanian kids who were stuck at home during the war, taught ourselves italian and we're rocking it today. Good job on your languages and keep it up! | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 02/10/20 09:40 PM
Find a healthy obsession, something you never want to stop engaging in. If you have one, what is your obsession? My parents were brought up in very communist Albania and were unable to learn any languages themselves at the time - hence the push for me to learn and actually leave the country as a teen. My dad's situation was especially dire (he lived in internment camps) but he taught himself french with book scrappings. He's very confident in his skills, although he's obviously not any good at it. I try not to correct him too much cause he's cute when he speaks it and he's very unapologetic too. | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 02/10/20 09:37 PM
Find a healthy obsession, something you never want to stop engaging in. If you have one, what is your obsession?Awesome! All great languages, how did you get into learning them? Yes, Albanian is my native language, it has latin letters but it is a lonely branch of indo european languages so it's really interesting. Fun fact: Albanian still maintains an optative mood, one of the four original moods of proto-indo-european languages. It is used to express wishes and curses, the latter mostly on LVMs | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 02/10/20 09:16 PM
Find a healthy obsession, something you never want to stop engaging in. If you have one, what is your obsession?Forgot to ask, which ones do you speak? Im sorry I'm completely self-absorbed lol | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 02/10/20 08:11 PM
Find a healthy obsession, something you never want to stop engaging in. If you have one, what is your obsession?I was born in a small country (Albania), my parents encouraged me learning other non native languages at a very young age. This was pretty standard for the country in the early 90s. I already spoke 4 languages fluently before the age of 14. I just kept going since I really enjoy learning them, they give great insight into a culture's psyche and it's always easier to travel and work with people when you know the native language. | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 02/10/20 08:09 PM

Find a healthy obsession, something you never want to stop engaging in. If you have one, what is your obsession?Fluent in english, french, italian and albanian. Very good level of spanish, intermediate in portugese and german. I "speak" latin too as much as one can speak it. | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 02/10/20 04:15 AM

Moved to the US.. can't believe how men treat women hereI'm french and I once went out with an american guy who: 1) Expected me to pay for all dates which were just him wanting to try good restaurants and food around Paris 2) told me he loved me pretty soon and other lovebombing stuff 3) the same day he got a flight home, he slept with someone else just to "see if he could validate his feelings for me". Wtf From my experience: French guys have been also kind of awful, I don't like their idea of banter or romance. UK guys are funny and respectful, but… | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 02/10/20 02:09 AM
What are some professions that have the most LVM/NVM?I work in finance and this is so true, finance guys are douchebags. They make decent money so they automatically think they're smart but they're on average pretty dumb and misogynistic beyond belief. I would never date a guy from my industry. | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 27/09/20 03:05 PM
Question - can you have male friends?I have a few long standing male friends including my best friend. In my personal experience yes, you can have male friends. | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 02/09/20 01:20 PM
Why does this make 0 sense to me...Honestly from your post it sounds like he's stringing you along and giving you the bare minimum, even saying "I don't know" when you asked where he was at. Are you happy with this situation? I don't want to judge, but it seems very disrepectful and imo he also sounds like he has a side girl. Whenever I've felt I was even 1% close to a situationship, I've cut my losses and moved forward. But that's me knowing what I want and what I def do not want. | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 18/07/20 04:30 PM
Amen! Anyone else got any similar stories?I was really hungry, it was an easy decision at the time... never looked back | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 07/07/20 09:55 PM
Amen! Anyone else got any similar stories? My bf told me I had big thighs for someone who was so skinny. I was 16 years old and very anorexic at that time (5ft 2 and 75 lbs). That night went home and I thought well if I don't look "thin" even while eating 1/2 yoghurt a day, I might just start eating properly. His comment stuck with me, but it also made me realize I'd never be "good enough" for some people, so I better make sure to be healthy and good enough for myself. | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 06/07/20 02:44 PM

Discovering FDS has Changed My LifeI felt the "would have random crying fits out of nowhere" and the "little voice that told me this was the best I could do". I used to feel like that with my ex. And then I realised that was not the best I could do. Actually, I could do much better while being single and focusing on myself and my career, where I would rarely have "random crying fits" even in my most stressful and depressed situations. Good for you ! | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 05/07/20 09:03 PM
Beware of guys saying they want someone "smart and funny" on their dating profilesI thoroughly enjoyed your comment, the "youtube research" part really resonated with me. Thank you for sharing your experience | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 29/06/20 05:27 PM
NO CONTACT but dont forget to BLOCKThis describes my last relaionship and break up. I'm in the "he texts every couple of weeks to ask how I'm doing" phase. I only answer with one or two worded sentences. I never understand why people do this. What do they have to gain, especially if they're checking in with one or two texts? For me, a break up means no more room for the person in my life, I want a clear cut break. I haven't blocked him yet but I'm thinking I should. | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 22/06/20 09:34 PM

Should I unmatch this one? There's "report for hate speech", but I don't think this qualifies. I unmatched him anyway | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 22/06/20 07:19 PM
Should I unmatch this one?Thank you, I unmatched him a few minutes after writing this post, I guess I wanted to vent cause I've had one too many experiences with guys like this lately. | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 22/06/20 07:18 PM
Should I unmatch this one? Thanks for the advice, it makes total sense. The guy is french btw. My OLD profile mostly has some of me taken by other people, a couple of pictures hiking/skiing and the odd selfie. I never gave it any thought that I wasn't smiling, I guess I don't like how my face looks when I smile too much. His comment about it somehow being my culture sounded pretty xenophobic since people here don't really know where my country is, they conflate it with Eastern Europe and I've heard to many french people s… | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 22/06/20 07:17 PM
Breaking the Silence - The Women of BosniaHaving lived through that war in the Balkans during that time, this brought back some horrible memories. Life is still not easy for women in that part of the world. | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 22/06/20 11:36 AM
Don't spend money on men who don't do the same. This is extremely common. I used to pay for all the dates, trips and just basic stuff for my ex cause he "had no money". But he had no problem spending lots of it to go on weekend trips with his friends. | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 20/06/20 02:47 PM
I never want to hear “you deserve better” from a man again. This is my ex. He would say "You deserve better", "You're probably cheating on me anyway", "I can't give you what you want", "Why are you with me". Coupled with a hot and cold attitude and a lack of intimacy, at some point I realized he was absolutely right. I do deserve better. Thanks for the tip LVM ex | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 19/06/20 08:17 PM
This was his opening message. What did he think he would achieve?Yes it's Hinge, and I did not know that thank you stranger :proceeds to report 70% of all males: | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 16/06/20 10:07 PM
This was his opening message. What did he think he would achieve?I kind of like it when they send unsollicited dick pics though, I'm not afraid of shattering some male egos and my glass of wine is going down pretty smoothly right now | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 16/06/20 09:51 PM
This was his opening message. What did he think he would achieve? He reacted like that to the only picture of mine where some very modest cleavage was showing. Yikes | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 16/06/20 09:48 PM
Beware of guys saying they want someone "smart and funny" on their dating profilesHe did cause he was a religious person and he wanted to see where I standed on these topics. But he got really angry when I used my scientific background to make some points about evolution, cause and effect, etc. And when he asked about my education he very sarcastically said "oh so you're really smart then". | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 14/06/20 02:25 PM
Here at FDS, we call these 'soul diggers'. Never be a man's therapist or emotional support girlfriend. If he has mommy/daddy issues, he needs to grow up and get professional help.I've mostly gotten men who didn't earn a penny for themselves and I've had to pay for stuff. What about these gold-digger men, why nobody complaining about them? | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 14/06/20 02:09 PM
Beware of guys saying they want someone "smart and funny" on their dating profilesBlack cats are more unlikely to be adopted because of their coat color. I always wanted a black cat, but when I found this out it made we want to adopt him more. | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 14/06/20 06:44 AM
Beware of guys saying they want someone "smart and funny" on their dating profilesYeah, fear of black cats. I am not kidding. And every two minutes he was saying "you're a mathematician, of course you wouldn't understand x". Never in my life my education has been used as an excuse for "not understanding" something. It was unreal. But I'm enjoying these experiences at the moment cause it's fun to identify red flags as I go. Especially as a mathematician. | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 14/06/20 06:42 AM
What's the most egregious behavior you've tolerated before finding FDS?These are from a few past relationships (lessons learned) Controlling behaviour (jealousy, not letting me see my friends) Manipulative "if you leave me I'll kill myself". No you won't, your dependent ass will find another girl to pull that shit on. Not defining plans until the very last minute to leave me hanging. Systematically taking too long to reply to texts (+3 hours) Always complaining they're "no good" but making no effort to be better cause they actually thought they were too intelligent… | /r/FemaleDatingStrategy | 13/06/20 05:09 PM
