There are many emotional and social benefits to marriage (for the couple and for offspring), whereas there is no reason to play Russian Roulette if there are no real benefits. I plan to marry my boyfriend because I love him, WE want to share our lives together, and because we BOTH want to provide a stable environment for future kids (especially with legal stuff with the kids, it's easier to be married and both be able to handle things). We both want the commitment that marriage entails--it steps up the game, so when problems come up (and they will, especially with kids), we are more motivated to work through them. In many of these cases, racism or classism play a role in misidentification and sentencing, the accused are often undereducated and unable to defend themselves properly, and there is often another reason to suspect innocence. Please don't convince yourself that all it takes is an accusation to convict a man of rape.
