being in a STEM field, we're constantly being lectured to about gender inequality and sexism. The funny thing? In practically all classes there is ALWAYS a female majority. When I go to a lab? About 2/3rd of the staff are female. Ditto for administration. Funny how that works.

Yeah, this is one thing I noticed. Once you get into the mindset, the confidence and feeling of "owning the room" just flows naturally out of you.

I can attest to this – I sat down one day with a girl to go over a paper of mine. Two of her friends came over and started a loud discussion of the paper. It was quite surreal, really, to see these 3 allegedly good friends making passive-aggressive barbs at each other disguised as good-naturedness. Amusingly, too, one of them tried to neg me through my writing, but was so bad at it that the original girl I had sat down with treated it as an insult and rose to my defense. It really is fascinating…
