It does! I'll keep those in mind and also try and find the specifics from all of those places to make sure our bases are covered. I very much agree that it is a terrifying thought that 25% of men who are incarcerated for rape didn't do it! That's so fucked up, and unfair on a plethora of levels.

Thanks! I appreciate it. Do you know where these specific stats are from? Just general CDC stuff? I'd like to try and provide the stats/facts/proofs just in case someone asks when my partner goes to HR.

They are generally the only option for abused men. I've also spent time in shelters, and not one has done this where I've stayed. It is still quite strange and accusatory of the shelter to do when dealing with a homeless, at risk population.

I guess there's a mismatch between mind and body and when that happens, the mind should be considered "right", but we often don't think that way. Like I think there's a very small number of people with a condition where in their mind they don't have but one arm or something. They have both arms but the fact of the second one is so troubling that in many cases they are better having it amputated, a healthy arm. And you think, holy crap, in this case maybe the brain's wrong, OK? The body's right t…

Yeah, they generally lump it all together because the subject matter falls under the LGBT umbrella - or, if you're into slightly more accurate terms, GSM (gender and sexuality minority). Gender and sexuality, for years, were closely linked as something that seemed inherent to the other, so I think that bunching everything up just helps people shunt folks into a category. I do, however, agree with you. A lot of transgender people (I won't say a majority, because I don't have any clue and haven't …

In so many words, yes, but this is still a challenge as kids who are trans are generally not allowed to transition, but that's more an issue with parents being scared or worried that their child will change their mind or make some sort of grave mistake and end up in a body they hate more than before they started. That's a valid fear, and the mindset is slowly making the way around, but it is still an issue. A lot of trans kids are actually kicked out, disowned, and ignored for being trans. My fa…

I never said that anyone owes you a job. I said that people should be equal in the enforcement of dress policy, especially since owners are still culpable if their policies are considered biased. You can't discriminate against women for their dress as long as it is a professonal dress - what I'm saying is that if a person chooses to wear professional dress of whatever type they want, they should be able to.

Most employers have dress codes that are much more lax for women, e.g., skirts and blouses or slacks or appropriate dresses, sometimes with a blazer. Men usually get dress shirt, slacks, or perhaps things that are "Harvard boy" appropriate - blazers, nice vest (which women could also wear). If an employer said ONLY skirts or dresses, no pants, there would be a shit-fit from feminists... so I say, why not give men and women 100% equal dress codes? If Jane in accounting can wear slacks, why can't …

Important: marked by or indicative of significant worth or consequence. Is it significant? In light of the other pressing issues I would say it's not. Everything used to fight such issues is limited. The MRM only has so much manpower, so much money, so much time. Likewise, the people listening have limited time, money, and energy. Every time an issue is pushed for you're taking resources from both the MRM and those that must be convinced to support the issue. Where would you rather see those res…

Hey I only said they hate MTFs more, or is that what you were disagreeing with? Inherently, yes. The distaste is different but not any less for FTMs. OK that's something I've not heard before. That's pretty interesting. Just to be clear about what that statement is implying, you have female feminist (and lesbian?) friends who are saying you should identify as a lesbian, and not as FTM? And you're attracted to women? And this is a serious thing - it's not just that they'd miss you if you moved aw…

I was kicked around a bit by two large cowboy wannabe stereotypes in a town outside of Houston. To be fair, I was 17 and at a bar, but I was not drinking, just sitting with friends of friends. Being in the bar was apparently fuel for that particular officer to tell me to fuck off. Very, "Well I'll let you go if we all just go home and drop it," because apparently being in a bar and being bloodied while trans is the same to some people. Regardless, I dealt. Shit happens, there are assholes everyw…

Theoretically you have recourse to the police in such cases. Do they do anything? I've actually been through something along these lines, and in my case, nothing happened but there are a lot of "ifs, ands and buts" when it comes to whether or not someone who is going against gender norms who is assaulted or abused in some way will get any recompense for what happens to them. For reference, I am a female to male transgender person who, after using a male assigned bathroom, was assaulted behind a …

Kilts are awesome. The range of motion of the legs is superb. If you're getting a kilt, I'd wear it to somewhere like a Ren-Fest. Less people will try and be dicks about it; less stress, more fun.

To play devil's advocate - why does asking about this issue mean that those issues aren't something that is important as well? No, not to the same degree, but being able to wear whatever you want (without showing off genitals or anything crazy) without being labelled a pervert or freak is something that should be inherent to all people regardless of gender. Women can wear dresses, men should be able to as well if they so want to without instantly being called a fetishist, a pedophile, a freak, o…

Men who wear dresses (not as much traditional dress like some Muslims, Scotsman, Sheiks, etc. - I'm speaking of crossdressers/transvestites/anyone else who wants to wear a dress and is male) at this point are a huge target for violence as are transgender women who are very masculine featured. It isn't something that you can just do in a lot of areas without risking getting your ass kicked or much worse. Should it be like that? No. It shouldn't - but you can't just say "do it, don't worry about w…

No, they hate FTMs as well, and a good amount of time FTMs are looked at as if they are doing so just so that they can get supposed male privilege. They are also told that they need to stop transitioning and just identify as "butch female" because "teh patriarchy is stealing all our butches". Source: am FTM and feminists hate me because I don't subscribe to the increasingly radical all men are bad all women good view of crap.

Of. Transgender people are more likely to be murdered because people consider us freaks.

It gets easier over time, and as you're able to really start transitioning. I have it a little bit easier as I'm a transgender male (female to male) so passing for me is easier than MTF women - especially older women. All I need to pass is testosterone and a mastectomy. Most trans women have to take hormones, lose weight, get laser facial hair removal, a good portion of them wear wigs (which are expeeeeeeensive), they get breast implants, facial feminization surgery, AND have to do voice therapy…

Well they're English, so it is very unlikely that he'll be circumcised if that's any comfort. Only about 16% of young men in the UK are circumcised, and most of those are for religious reasons or medical reasons like phimosis. It isn't nearly as much an issue there as in other countries.

This is pretty much it, right here. No matter what you do, unless you're among other trans people or some LGB people, or people who are particularly liberal, you're just a freak, and it sucks. It sucks, because it isn't something that you can control, or change - it is just there. And yeah, you can choose not to transition, but then you feel like you're not even living your life. You just go through life pretending to be what everyone wants, and you're not happy, and you're dysphoric and frustra…

I'm trans, and I would never wish being transgender on someone else. It is fucking hard; people treat you like you're a walking case of AIDS who wants to rape them or something, the suicide rates and murder rates are super high, it makes finding a job near IMPOSSIBLE (not that a royal baby would have to worry about money, but still)... yeah, no. Not something I want for anyone, and any person that wishes this on someone else is really immature if not outright cruel. Seriously, you may as well be…

Not to detract from the obviously serious issue, but if the person was male to female transsexual, pronouns are SHE. It is sort of disrespectful to call them "he". If they had to go through all this indignity in life of being called a man and torn down, the least we can do is use the correct pronouns. Tangentially, I'm a transgender male (ftm) and find it super... Interesting that trans folk seem to have NO place in tje "feminist" movement -not that I mind, they're awful. They sit there and say,…
