I'm actually super interested in the root of your question and have wanted to post something similar for awhile though I don't think n count is very relevant. The core question is namely - What's the emotional harm being done by cheating, in the sense of why people assume monogamy at all - I think it's disingenuous for people to talk about the rational side of it - people don't get heartbroken by cheating because of some contract about behaviour being broken. They get heartbroken because it emot…

Ownership is about stopping someone else from taking something from you and using it for themselves that you could be using instead. What I see happening here is guys feeling that a particular person shouldn't be used at all, even by themselves.

I think your title is using circular logic here - toxicity is categorically non beneficial. The toxicity I'm trying my best to see here seems to be something like 'giving in to social pressure for the sake of appearances is bad'. My argument is that those things are more about traditional trappings of masculinity rather than masculinity itself - that is to say, it's the traditions rather than the masculinity that are the problem. The rabbit hole gets a little weirder if you think about real …

One aspect is that people not knowing what you really want gives you power. It stops people from using it against you. There's an inherent vulnerability to people knowing what you truly, deeply want. Look at how well known mens' sexuality is and how often people try to use it for control - advertising, blackmail, military recruiters, christianity and marriage, you name it... All that exists because men deeply want sex and people know it.

I'm glad you've managed to find that way for yourself.

Just devil's advocating here cause I agree with the general thrust of your post, but do you not work somewhere that has policies that are influenced by cultural development like the way sexual harassment is handled or hiring practices or insurance cover etc? Those things are definitely under the control of people who drink the koolaid of all kinds of flavours whether you do or not.

Mostly that being too worn out to feel good from the things that require the work & focus to accomplish happens to me all the time makes me second guess effort quite a bit.

I think the issue is the adjective toxic x (nu metal band name of the day) is a property to x itself. Nobody says "That dude had toxic beer and threw up. They say he had too much beer and threw up." I think the real analogy here is: "I like pizza, but I don't like toxic pizza." It reads weird because pizza isn't inherently toxic (barring Hawaiian). Have you ever heard anyone say a sentence like that about anything? Toxins are toxic. Too much pizza being a bad thing doesn't mean it's a 'littl…

The moment of death alone thing is a red herring; It's just a turn of phrase that generally means 'died before ever finding my way out of loneliness'. People don't fear dying alone so much as living alone. OP you really might never find your way out of the loneliness. But then you really might too. The world's waaaaay too complex & dynamic for that story to have real predictive power. It seems like you're a little mired in that 'what if' scenario. If you can find a way to disengage your imagin…
