Shaming was and is powerfully effective in getting people to quit smoking. I think shaming would work to get people to quit overeating as well, if the shaming was as severe and pervasive as cigarette-smoking shaming has been. I think women are great. The ones I've known, dated, been friends with have been super. There are a few really annoying women, but there are probably fewer bad women than bad men. It's really only a very small segment of U.S. people who are obsessed with sex, namely teenagers, and just a small portion of teenagers. Of course you can define "obsessed" for that group to be as small or as large as you'd like it to be. There's nothing new about sexually explicit pop songs. Teenagers think they're listening to something forbidden and dangerous and lap them up.

If you're going to bring government into it, why not use government to sponsor singles' clubs or something like that? Investing in healthy relationships instead of unhealthy ones? Or is that way too old-fashioned and conservative for today's people?
