Yeah, as a dad I get a little sick of reading articles about doing something fun with/for your kids that automatically make the assumption that the readers are all mothers. I know my experiences match your friend's somewhat, to my surprise actually. Was taken to a strip club for my bachelor's party and the lap dance didn't turn me on at all. That said, it's unfair to make generalizations based on your own experiences. A real problem. A lot of institutions tend to "overcorrect" (e.g. zero tolerance policies to prevent violence in elementary schools). I think a lot of these laws are pretty new and they will mature and improve over time, but it's important to point out when laws are misapplied or applied unfairly.

There are actually a few great commercials with strong fathers. It's especially common with products sold to men or with strong unisex appeal. I've never ever experienced this. In fact cashiers are usually very friendly and outgoing towards me. Maybe even more so if they are female. When a woman married, any property she might have had was transferred to her husband. When her husband died, any property she had would have to go to some male relative. You're right that being able to possess property is not a "need" like feed or shelter, but I believe that if your right to have any property is taken from you, you're essentially in servitude towards those who can own property.

I don't think it's feminists who support this kind of legislation. It's moral conservatives who see women as innocent and chaste who are coerced or tricked into giving up their maidenhood, whereas men have ownership over their sexuality.
