If it's forced or bragging yeah it'll hurt. If it fits with the conversation and is more indirect it can work really well. If you're talking about good local bars you could say something like "Oh yeah the pub Nelligans down the street, its a great place, [insert name] played a show there once, it was a really good time."

Quebecois actually aren't snobby about French, thats more French/Parissien people. It depends what part of Quebec, Quebec city for example has 1.5% anglophones, probably less than 1% minorities, and the rest French.
