A lot of the behaviour on his side reads like weaponized incompetence TBH.

Not to sound cruel, but if I were in your situation I would... leave him probably. It's so much work to get someone to change themselves if they don't want to change, there could be some serious mental health issues at play too, I know that I was the worst version of myself when I struggled with some abuse issues in the past. But it's a journey everyone must embark on themselves to show up as a good partner, otherwise it's unfair to you.

I had a job as a library page when I was young. I didn't particularly enjoy it and the pay wasn't amazing, but on the whole I was okay with the job because it didn't make me physically sick. Similarly, I don't think being a store clerk or a waitress will make me physically sick. Not to mention all the very real physical and pscychological harm women in sex work often experience, as others have mentioned.

Do you think many these people would willingly choose a life-threatening job, if they had another choice? Maybe think about jobs in the context of capitalism, and what some people need to do for survival (i.e. make money or die).

Yeah, all capital WTF-ing right now. It looks like OP might not understand that sex has emotional and psychological effects on women which they generally cannot control since OP claims to be a virgin. On top of that, it would be like forcing yourself to eat food you find disgusting, for money. Probably worse than that, actually. Partially poisoned food that will make you sick, for money.

I don't know. Would you become one if you were paid, say, $100k a year? It is not like most jobs. Prostitution is asking people to go against their biological urge, generally, because they probably will not find the majority of their clients attractive. If you had a mild (non-lethal, but still anaphylactic) allergy to peanuts but someone is willing to pay a lot of money for you to eat peanuts every day, would you do it?

Do women want to become prostitutes if they had any other choice? I would probably rather kill myself. Maybe the solution is AI sex robots.

Two opposing forces, I guess. We don’t like being lonely, and falling in love feels amazing, makes it seem like life has a purpose. But on the other hand lust is good only when fresh. A lot of people partner up for the stability, with or without love, then cheat for the excitement.

It’s also really funny that men’s first reaction is that it’s out of bitterness. How about… it’s because some of us have been victimized before? The dad of one of my ex’s tried to get with me. When I stayed over with my ex he would come out of the shower naked and made sure I saw him. In my twenties I saw someone who was about a decade older which didn’t end well at all because he felt I owed him whatever he wanted. Easy for people to say “women are just bitter”, no, how about some of us are act…

I can mostly take what you say at face value. I don’t know you but I suppose everyone has a different threshold for honour. Still, my experiences make it difficult to trust men. I’ve seen too many men try to get with me even while partnered or married (usually they would pretend to be single). Not sure that loyalty means anything to them.

I don’t believe I ever said that all men who want to date younger women are misogynistic creeps. If you want to argue with someone who thinks that, they’re probably in this thread somewhere, but they’re not me. My personal stance is that if there is a significant age gap, I should probably tread with caution. Lots of older men hit on me generally with the assumption that I would be an easy target and I honestly find it both insulting and tiring. They often don’t know me at all and see what they …

Yeah, that's fair enough if you have a group like that. But in my experience people do much worse things than what they say. It is often worth keeping up the appearance of being good and loyal, virtue-signalling if you will.

do you think a gap in relationship experience is a red flag too? because an experienced woman can leverage that to manipulate an inexperienced man too and i've seen it happen plenty of times. Yes, I do. I'm not really telling anyone else what to do, you can date 18-year-old models or 45-year-old CEOs. But if I see a couple with a large age gap, I am going to be wary about their dynamics. the potential of being able to do something doesn't mean that it will necessarily happen at all. Sure, and I …

I don't think you understood my point at all. The difference in life experience is the inherent issue. Again, the more experienced party has the power to take advantage of the less experienced party, which is itself the problem. Notice that I did not say older men and younger women. It would be equally creepy with an older woman and younger man.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/07/24 06:09 AM

On one hand I can see that some women would be bitter over being outshone by younger competition, like you say, either they had it and lost it or never had it at all. On the other hand there is something inherently creepy about large age gaps. The amount of life experience the older party has means they can dominate the younger party and manipulate them without the younger party realizing it. Such a power imbalance should be worrying for people who care about the younger party.

shrug Everyone still has the right to complain I guess, since we are all selfish. Men wish smart, independent women were more domestic and did not put themselves first, too.

Haha, well yes animalistic men do have their appeal, don't they? That's the fun and exciting part. If only I could stop my body from forming emotional bonds then everything would be perfect.

Hmm, I'm not totally convinced. If I were to cheat on my husband I certainly would not advertise it to the world or even my close friends.

Lol sure, alpha widow is everyone’s first guess since it’s a widely cited example, but you don’t actually know me. I have seen enough men doing exactly that, leaving after their wives are “used up” or when a better woman comes around. I’ve received enough propositions from married or taken men and I reject them because I know this cycle. Did you know that Natalie Portman’s husband first cheated with her, then recently on her? Not even the most beautiful women can escape this.

Lol, I wasn't really looking for feedback since I am already aware of my issues. Feedback would need to be very specific as well, and I am not asking that from people who do not know my situation and do not have an interest in improving my life. Doomed? Not sure about that.

Yeah, I'm still really into the emotional intensity of fighting for dominance with dark triad men. Not sure if I'll ever outgrow this.

Hey, someone who gets all the little jokes I made! That’s fair though, a few others have also said they just have a couple of lipsticks they use all the time. Maybe I’m more novelty-seeking than average.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing your thoughts! It was not my intent to emphasize the word "the", agree with you that they are a means to obtain sex (but arguably the most effective). Childless and unmarried doesn't mean they are not having sex with many attractive women, though. And if they are homosexual, then just switch the word "women" with "men". I also value the pursuit of knowledge, so I can agree with your list. I would say I am after power but not necessarily dominance, which may b…

Hmm, fair enough. I have also seen many cases of the opposite though, where the men thrive while the women became a shell of their former selves. I guess it probably depends on who is “stronger” in each situation. Haha, I’ve had almost the exact same thought before. Wild wolves are so irresistible though, but you are right, one cannot expect them to behave as a dog when convenient.

I'm not talking about strict physical attraction either which is how men see porn stars, but a desire to possess someone/something. There is something deeper and more personal here.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/06/24 04:46 AM
1

Hmm. People say that power and wealth are the means to obtain sex with more (in quality and quantity) attractive women, which is why men seek power and wealth. Would you seek those things for their own sake? What do you value the most then?
/r/PurplePillDebate28/06/24 04:33 AM

Refreshing to hear a different perspective. My question is how do you know what your friends do in their private lives though?
/r/PurplePillDebate28/06/24 03:24 AM
1

You are right, I am being quite reductive. The equivalent would probably indeed be for a woman to only use a man as a means to get more resources, which I personally do not believe in at all.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/06/24 03:11 AM
1

Well I do think that by sexualizing women men also objectify us. I am being pretty reductive here though and not really considering the more complex bonding between men and women.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/06/24 03:07 AM
1

Hmm. I can agree about "taming" a man who isn't strong enough. I dated someone in my twenties who wasn't strong enough for me, and neither of us liked what he became. But I think there are men who are strong enough that I would respect. There are also many cases of men leaving their families for a new flame, although I don't know the exact percentages of that happening vs. the men breaking it off with their mistresses.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/06/24 02:51 AM
1

I'm still a bit confused. You are saying that women need constant refilling of their "love" metre or something like that? I'm not sure I have that experience.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/06/24 02:41 AM
1

I'm pretty sure I agree with you about men being possessive. About a "love that is worth having", I mean, I can see men having more than short-term attachment for a high-value woman, but, what happens when she gets old and isn't sexually appealing any more?
/r/PurplePillDebate28/06/24 02:40 AM

Rofl I don't want kids though so that doesn't really change anything for me.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 11:35 PM

Okay, I can agree with the provider and protector instinct in men. The sad part is that men only feel love so long as they feel desire (as you confirmed above), which has a definite expiration date.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 11:34 PM
1

Haha, true. Sucks that the best way to "win" is to be selfish and violent.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 11:30 PM
1

Lol I'm not talking about modern mating strategies for the average human, but that is how a male specimen should behave if he wanted the greatest number of offspring, since raising offspring is primarily the female's concern at least in the animal kingdom.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 11:29 PM
3

Exactly... we all hear so many stories through personal connections or on the news of women harmed one way or another by revenge of men. They sometimes kill themselves, too, which I think is pretty good proof of this consumptive/obsessive/destructive desire.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 11:24 PM
2

That is a bit sad and lonely and I feel for them. At least men know about this pretty early on, whereas women are told about love and romance which don't paint an accurate picture of male sexual desire. Not sure anyone wins at this reproduction game other than our genes.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 11:21 PM
1

Hah, well, I will admit that I like a certain type. But isn't this how testosterone should make men behave if they wanted the greatest genetic success?

Your tag does say asexual, so fair enough.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 11:06 PM

Can women really attach and secure men, though? Perhaps a couple stays together for other reasons such as children or social harmony, but the desire is either there or it isn't.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 11:03 PM
1

Lol. Well if you want to read it as "all women love lipstick" then sure, I agree that not all women love lipstick. As for the comment about men, well, to be honest, I do think my analogy describes their sex drive at its core. Not everyone is a philanderer, some don't have the ability to do so, but I would propose that they all wish they could live like emperors did and have access to lots of women who cannot refuse them. The same core desire for women would perhaps be to have a strong and attrac…

Is it sexist to men or women? How would you make it broader?
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 10:46 PM

I said desire, not love, and from what I've seen it can be quite consumptive (obsessive?). There are men that would destroy women's lives because they cannot have them.

It is not a fact that what men desire most in life is sex?
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 10:01 PM
5

I definitely think there is something to the darkness theory since everyone wants to be the best man/woman. There is also the fact that men are much less desperate when they are partnered; single men are pretty pushy and insistent whereas men who are taken seem much more chill, which makes them more attractive intrinsically (not just because they are taken).
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 09:58 PM
1

Lol I'm not making any value judgments here. I guess the only thing I'm not totally happy about is how much we try to conceal this fact, similar to how we teach children only good things and leave them to find out the unjust parts on their own.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 09:40 PM
1

Totally fair, reality is a lot more nuanced and depends on the individual's precise circumstances. I was kind of taking the biological drive to its logical conclusion in my post.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 09:23 PM

I didn't make a value judgment though. Human nature is what it is, but it would be a mistake to not acknowledge it or pretend it is something else.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 09:13 PM
0

Haha yeah, not sure why it's getting so much disagreement when I think it's pretty accurate (although maybe the analogy is a bit out there). As for options, I guess whether or not they are available, the desire is still there.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 09:09 PM
7

Hmm. I don't think men want women for companionship. The companionship is just the price they have to pay for what they are really after.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 09:07 PM
2

Lipstick is just an analogy, I only have like 15 or something. Do people seriously not get the point I'm trying to make here? Again being somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but it's pretty accurate no?
/r/PurplePillDebate27/06/24 09:04 PM
2

I am grateful for plenty of things, but it's human nature to want what we cannot/do not have at the moment. I am simply applying this observation to a different sort of want.

/r/PurplePillDebate26/06/24 04:24 PM

Hello again, so you made me think a bit more about my preferenes. I have always been the thrill-seeking kind of person, but I guess at the same time I have always tried really hard to fit in to society's expectations of monogamy (especially for women) as well. That being said, I think it is really unfortunate that women get emotionally attached through sex. Even though yes in theory we can enjoy sex with a lot of "Chads" the emotional toll is just not worth it. Not sure if you think/feel the sam…
/r/PurplePillDebate26/06/24 02:52 AM

I mean, if that's what you want, then fair enough. I thought at one point that I would be happy to keep a "harem of chads" or sleep around like men do, but it actually didn't make me happy because sex attaches women and not men and I didn't really want sex with many different men in the first place ¯_(ツ)_/¯
/r/PurplePillDebate25/06/24 07:47 PM

I am not saying that male mice and male humans are completely the same, but the conclusions drawn from the mice study can probably be applied to humans. I disagree about female sexual drives, though. From my own experience, I am simply not attracted to that many men, especially when I'm partnered; whereas many women will be attractive to most men, whether they are partnered or not. I don't think it is correct to assert there is symmetry between the sexes. Females carry the reproductive cost, the…
/r/PurplePillDebate25/06/24 07:30 PM

Well, yes, that’s how science experiments work? If that doesn’t convince you, what about the vast amount of data on successful men and their many mistresses? Emperors and their harems?
/r/PurplePillDebate25/06/24 04:21 PM

I am happy to hear that you have found someone who is stable and loyal. I have witnessed firsthand men who do not stick by their families during difficult times so I am not too optimistic in my outlook, but I acknowledge they must exist.
/r/PurplePillDebate25/06/24 04:19 PM

Hmm, yes the first sentence was maybe intentionally misleading. But yes, I am trying to find out whether long-lasting romantic love is real and it looks like the consensus here is it isn’t.
/r/PurplePillDebate25/06/24 04:17 PM

Yes probably true, but that again points to the nature of man vs. woman. If a man who previously was faithful suddenly had more options, then he would probably choose to have those options, even if the “options” are not as high quality as his primary companion. Whereas women would only choose the best option, unless an even better one came along or something.
/r/PurplePillDebate25/06/24 04:16 PM

Agree that unconditional love probably isn’t real, as much as we wish it were. Everyone loves something/someone for a reason. If the object or person no longer fulfilled a need, then that feeling would cease.
/r/PurplePillDebate25/06/24 04:14 PM

Agree with this and I don’t think it’s sad at all, just how it is.
/r/PurplePillDebate25/06/24 04:10 PM

I can agree with this analysis, but, lust is the part that doesn't last given the effect of time (aging, and familiarity itself). So I guess people choose to either chase the next high from a new romantic love, or become content with non-romantic love that still has attachment/attraction (non-sexual).
/r/PurplePillDebate25/06/24 04:00 PM

Perhaps we could discuss without personal attacks. I have yet to see examples of men giving their lives for their children (or women, for that matter).

I appreciate the difference, but it really is a lot to ask: he needs to be much more intelligent/wiser, I need to trust him almost completely, he needs to have proven that he is truly a good person and not just pretending to be a good person, etc. People can surprise you even when you think you know them.

Hmm. I think… men probably love differently from women. As others have pointed out, maternal love may be the only “real” or unconditional love, or at least as close as it gets. Men don’t have a biological drive to love their offspring, I think, so maybe their only emotional attachment is with the woman they are attracted to at the moment. Even for a woman, her love for a man is probably dependent on him being strong and being able to protect her. As I said in the original post, I’m not passing j…

Very interesting, can you elaborate on your points about filial and platonic love? I had an unusual upbringing so I probably don’t have the same experiences about long-lasting filial and platonic love. I find that friendships are best for both when there is some distance between the parties and too much attachment can be awkward, but I’m not sure if that’s what you’re referring to.

Wow, well said! I feel that as I get older I can understand this better, sort of like that quote from the Tree of Life “the way of nature or the way of grace”, but I also feel that a lot of the time not everyone is ready for these kinds of connections. As for my previous romantic partners, they are ruled much more by their whims and usually cannot “be kind when they don’t feel like being kind”, but I think that’s on me since I do tend to be attracted to a specific type. I would like to be open-minded to the possibility that I just haven’t experienced the real version of love. However, the variety thing I am pretty convinced of, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coolidge_effect, from experiments conducted on mice.
