The mature masculine leaders aren’t on reddit, they’re out there in the world. Figuring that out for myself, finding them and asking them for guidance was part of my process of unplugging.

True, but not sad really. TRP isn’t a static, homogenous community, the churn and turnover of active users and lurkers is very high. Sure you’ve got a few long term thought leader type accounts, but the majority of the community IMO is an immature demographic - but a constantly changing population. I spent a lot of time in TRP a few years ago, I read, posted, interacted, a lot. Then I started to reach the end of the knowledge there, I started to be able to predict the comments sections of posts …

He has asked me for my thoughts on it directly in an email.... there’s just so much wrong with this video I get overwhelmed just thinking about where to begin. I guess I’m looking for bullet point fallacies that I can use to organize my response... my hunch is that this is textbook purple pill, but is it? Or is it straight up blue pill mentality?

I'm not experienced with Stoic practice personally, so I can't speak with much confidence, but yea from the little I've read, the Stoic ethic is a lot like the Buddhist method in that regard.

You really are a bit of a drama queen eh rian? You're guesses about me and my life would be more accurate if they weren't so polluted my your emotions and projections of your own issues. There's nothing wrong with despair, anger or bitterness as long as you're able to acknowledge when they've hijacked your logic to serve their own ends, and stop talking or acting them out. That is easier said than done, and takes practice. I don't expect you to be able to diagnose my entire life and solve all my…

This isn’t her first retreat, your confusion is understandable. We both go on retreat together roughly 21 days per year, usually spread out over he course of a year. Her summer retreat was the longest either of us have ever gone away, and it may have been intense for a beginner, but we’ve been meditating daily for over 4 years so it was helpful for her. Also, your hallucinations that she was cheating are way off, though again I understand since he extent of your understanding of meditation comes…

Fucking right. You know, Rollo talks about how people think women have this superpower called Empathy. First of all, it's not empathy if you're not using it in awareness, if you're just triggered and in reaction, using your emotions to justify your worldview. And yes, even men here slide into using that strategy. But empathy is not limited to women, it's just that most men are too numb, afraid, or clumsy to connect with their emotional experience in any useful way. Hell, I was. Thing is, if you …

For a long time I had sex to try and make the woman happy. So that’s a habit I’m trying to cut through. I really messed up my wiring trying to please women and give them what I imagined they wanted for so long. Now when I have sex with my wife, I do it to cum, and it’s all very mechanical. I do the things I know have worked in the past to get her off, it’s formulaic. It’s sterile and goal oriented, the process itself is often numb and boring. I'm starting to get to know you Rian, your style is very dramatic, and assertive, I bet you're good in a scrap. Me, I've been a nonconfrontational pussy most of my life, never been in a fight in my life. I'm starting BJJ in January to fix that. The habit patterns I wrote about in this post are subtle, the antithesis of dramatic. They're there in all of us, mostly people talk about them in aggregate, in terms of 'conditioning'. My next post will unpack that more. These experiences only became cle…

Like I said, I appreciate a lot of what you have to say, here I'm just pointing out where you are full of shit. Dude, you're trying so hard here, I'm going to get out of your way, but first I'll say this, you are embarrassing yourself when you try to talk about meditation, Buddhism or retreats, you have no idea what your talking about. Stick to your core competencies. I find utility in any method that has been market-tested for over 2500 years, I don’t care what culture developed it. I didn’t say anything about absolute truth, why are you hallucinating an argument to debate? My point is the same that JBP makes: you can say what you want about truth, it doesn’t matter, you act out your values every day, so you live your life as if X were true based on the decisions you make and actions you take. Meditation has helped me develop my attention to notice that I sa…

I agree, it’s partly about learning to control what you have agency over and exerting your self to increase competency over those aspects of life. The other part is learning what are the things you have zero control over–and stop trying to control them. Much easier said than done. You’re really underselling yourself if you think Buddhism is just a cool little tool for calming your nerves. That misperception is mainly driven by mass media portrayals so its understandable, but Buddhism is much, mu…

Isn't pretending that you know how something works (like mediation retreats) without having experienced it first hand and dismissing something as meaningless that you haven't studied and clearly don't understand a display of hubris and arrogance? I cultivate happiness and peace through meditation practices, that’s the only reliable method in my experience. For me, leaving a woman to be happy is another way of looking for external ways to manipulate my experience. And my life’s taught me that that approach is futile and a dead end.

The short answer is yes. The long answer is: Capacity. Historically, monks would remove themselves from society, and go live in the forest, the mountains or a monastery to deepen their practice and stabilize and refine their faculty of attention to incredible degrees for years on end. They would sit in silence for hours at a time, every day. Then they’d use their incredible capacity for attention to infinitely cultivate positive mind states, conduct deep internal insight investigations, or compl…

Assuming this isn’t a shitpost... masculinity is not positive or negative, the red pill is about balancing the way we relate to it. A lifetime of feminist indoctrination made me relate to my own masculine drives negatively, to bury them, reject them, run away from them, be ashamed of them... TRP Is helping me to stop doing that, and to balance out how I relate to my masculinity, to embrace it, develop it, express it honestly. To consciously show myself love every day, to balance out the years of…

I appreciate the feedback, and I agree. I failed to state that important point because it's my default mode of being. The idea that you can 'get' love from anyone other than yourself makes no sense in my experience. This is also in line with JBP's message: take responsibility, do difficult things to give your life meaning, bear the suffering of being. As I mentioned in the title, and in the closing statement, I'm writing as a practicing Buddhist. It's my assumption that the only way for an indiv…

To your first point. Meditation is a clearing away. As I've learned to open to and experience pain, I've been able to appreciate the extent of suffering (emotional reactivity) I've contributed to in whatever aspect of my life I examine. At first it can be pretty horrifying, it's like you have an insight one day (and insights jut pop up when the mind is calm and stable), and you're like "oh shit, I've been going after needy chicks my entire life, because I'm super fucking needy! When you label men as sperm donors and work slaves, you are making men victims. We are not goddamn victims. Take responsibility for training your woman to walk all over you and use you for your jizz. Then stop doing and saying things that signals her behaviour is acceptable. Also stop thinking about the whole situation like this, you are only reinforcing the problem you appear to be complaining about.

In a sense, you're right. In his latest lecture series he walks you through the mindset and world view of an archaic person, living a couple millennia ago was like, its fascinating. People assume that just because we can interpret language written thousands of years ago, that we can parse its meaning in the same way it's initial audience could-we can't! We have no clue what the experiences of living back then were like, the culture, the values-its like a whole different reality. Not that people …

I can understand your disappointment, and it sounds to me like you may have personally suffered through some bitter experiences with women, and as a result have a rather cynical worldview, is that accurate? I ask because I see things a little differently. The core of his message around duty and sacrifice as Peterson presents is not to 'man up', it is to take responsibility for your life and experience. And that's really hard, it's no joke. And that's what men want to do, to do difficult things, …

Yes, part of Peterson work is based on a psychological and mythological analysis of the oldest stories of our species, the Bible being the foundational story of Western civilization. From that lens, God = your superordinate moral principal- whatever that happens to be.

His ideas are not 'his'. He's not some thought leader with a personal agenda or brand to push. I've taken his teachings for what their worth-a modern, rational (as possible) presentation the oldest truths of mankind. Passed down through the oldest stories of our species, across the millennia. Some of the language he uses is made from a mythological context, not to be interpreted literally, but to evoke a more primordial truth. That's how I read his ideas of 'duty' and 'sacrifice'. Not literally,…

I look at mgtow as a phase in the process of actualizing red pill awareness. I find myself dipping into the mgtow mindset especially when things with my wife get really rough. I'm married so I have a bit of a different perspective, I get the anger and frustration you have for women, though I feel it embedded in bitterness and regret. For me, the first step was to take responsibility for my anger and to stop blaming the world for it (theres a time for that, but eventually it leaves you impotent and isolated). Then he anger can be seen as energy, so I'd use it to develop my body. Lift, run, get fit. I started to use it at the gym last Nov and have lost like 20 pounds si…

Can't recommend highly enough. He's got over 500 hours of content online... I've been working through it for the past few months. Check out his interview with Joe Rogan as a good intro. Can't wait for the lecture series, let me know if you end up going.

Is there a hub or a sub where we can reach out to/find brothers in our local communities. I live in Toronto and I'd love to connect with other guys to share experiences, tips and horror stories. I'm attending Jordan B. Peterson's lecture series The Bible: A Psychological Investigation in a few weeks, hoping to connect with some men there somehow...

Took me about six weeks to notice the benefits. Every day, 5 mins a day. My favourite practice techniques are still mindfulness of the breath, and body scanning, they are like your squats and your bench press, they help you to develop the capacity for awareness that creates enough space in the mind for you to discover insights into habitual patterns of thought, speech and action that keep you stuck, unhappy, and not able to reach your goals.

Retreats are the best way to 'get' how and why meditation works. They provide an extended period of time for you to just look at your thoughts, feelings, perceptions and views and notice them coming and going. They allow you to dis-identify from your 'self' or 'ego' or whatever you want to call it. This sounds like a simple concept, but in practice, the affect of doing this work consistently for a whole day, or several days, can be profound. It can also be difficult, or unsettling because you mi…

Resources There are 3 main aspect you need to start a meditation practice: 1. consistency is more important than duration, 2. read all the books you can find- the more highly recommended the better, 3. find a local group to practice with once a week-and shop around, every group is different. These articles are great, practical, secular primers: http://www.nytimes.com/well/guides/how-to-meditate http://drewscanlon.com/meditation-for-beginners/ If you want more in depth, here are some other secula…

Meditation changed my life and opened my mind up enough to be redpilled 6 months ago. It's why I'm here. My shitty terrible life has been transformed, in no small part, thanks to my practice, and the awareness it has helped me to develop. If anyone has any questions, I'm happy to share my experiences, I've done over a dozen silent retreats ranging from 2 to 10 days long, read probably a hundred books, and been practicing daily for 3 years. edit: Here's a bit more about my experience and perspect…

First Kill All the Marriage Counsellors is the revised and expanded version of Surrendered Wife. Picked it up to take a look, it was fantastic, showed my wife the author speaking on youtube, and she went out and bought herself a copy. Highly recommended.

Haven't checked /r/fitness, thanks will do. And I'm at around 25%, so 175 g protien/day is much more doable. Thanks brother!

Thanks for this. How the hell does anyone eat 235 g of protein a day?! That's like 5 steaks!

I'm not at the zero-muscle level, I'm fairly strong and I have lifted weights in the past but stopped after 6-9 month stretches. Now that I'm starting to lift as part of TRP awakening, nothing is going to stop me.

So I am on a calorie deficit diet, but I don't want to just loose weight, I want to build muscle... Do I need to do one then the other, or can I do both at the same time?

Well, not as accessible as Roosh, who's become a bit of a brand himself now.

I wonder if losing his anonymity is part of the reason Rollo isn't interested in writing full time? I mean one of the figures in the linked posts header image is even wearing a mask.

Good one. I have to read this one first. I'm only sharing things I've already read and that I can talk about.

Thank you for tracking your journey and posting this. Ever consider setting up a blog or Medium page? It would just make things easier to read/follow. You are a damn inspiration, thank you for modelling this process and sharing it. Rock on man. 1 question: What's a MFP app?

Yea my moms still around, she's the dominant one in a lot of ways, he's pretty quiet and introverted in some ways. He's a musician and I think has used his music career to keep his spirits up over time, their marriage always appeared to me to be based on functionality and a mutual anxiety/fear of loneliness and rejection. I certainly didn't see any physical affection between them, mainly just a mutual duty and respect for in another. I will be careful, didn't know Red Knighting was a thing.... I…

I hear you, that sounds shitty about your experience with dads growing up. It can't feel very good for them either. I know when I spoke to my dad's dad on his deathbed he was blubbering like a child, full of regret about the way he lived his life. That is a kind of hell I refuse to enter, and, I think my own dad wants to avoid as well. My wife is totally on board with TRP. The first time I told her about it and about my learning and determination to internalize and embody the principles, she sai…

Ya, that's one of my concerns. I don't want to like break him, but I do want him to be able to see what I've started to see. I'm hoping that when we talk, we will be able to work out any trouble.
