This speaks to the difference between the female gaze, and what men think the female gaze is. There's a trope, men written by women, Mr. Darcy (Jane Austen) type which I think perfectly personifies the female gaze. It makes me sick to my stomach when I see youtubers and women on tiktok talking about how much money they make from OF. Fourteen year old girls hear that and internalize it, twelve year old girls hear that and internalize it. All you need to enter the SW industry is a phone. You’re right— it’s not empowering, it’s not normal and it shouldn’t be a respected career. My mother was vehemently pickme, but not the insufferable, attention seeking type.
