No, the commenter means that men right now are not able to choose what they want to do with society's approval, and are instead expected to find the job that will make them the most money, regardless of whether or not it's actually what the man wants to do. This is a privilege that women currently hold, but men do not, and the commenter is suggesting that the same privilege be extended to men.

There's a large difference between dismissing and discarding. If I were to tell you that we are ruled by a large super intelligent rooster, you would dismiss my claim, as there is no evidence that this is the case. If evidence comes to light to support my claim in a few years, it can be reevaluated then, because it will be asserted with evidence.
