It's not a competition.

I wish people like this would tell us which men they are referring to. They don't because they don't understand why making generalisations like this based on gender is wrong.

"Not all men" really means "hardly any men", not "all but a few men". Feminists love manipulating language, and they are very good at it.

Women tend to use words as weapons in ways that men don't do as much. Women seem to exploit the cloud of inferences and associated meanings that most words have, while at the same time using such inferences to remain somewhat vague and non specific, and thereby avoiding the accountability that comes with speaking clearly. Whereas men will just call a spade a spade, as it were. It's a game that is best won by not playing.
/r/MensRights03/08/24 12:32 PM

Because they can't tell the difference between "X is done by men", and "Men do X". It's an equivocation fallacy. The word "men" refers to different subgroups of men in each sentence. Not the same subgroups.

You summed it up well here. It's not that behaviour can be 'toxic', the problem is the gendered language and the consequent implication that there is something pathological about being male.

Waiting for the day that women on trains understand that their bags don't need their own seat.

This is simply defining misogyny and misandry in those terms. It's a completely circular argument. If you go by the dictionary definitions of those terms. such a conclusion is not justified. It's an exercise in wordplay, nothing more.

Yes. The answer is yes. It's always been yes.

Since I'm in Australia it's already 2.40 is the afternoon of the 19th here. The Google banner is about the cricket world cup.

I would never have been able to tell that English was your second language. It sounded fine to me. This was a great story to hear. I'm glad that young people, especially girls, see through the feminist bs. Thanks.

Every year, someone at Google makes the deliberate decision not to include a cartoon for IMD. Obviously it's part if the culture over there. Seeing it would indicate a significant change in attitude at Google, and possibly more widely. But I'm not holding my breath.

Mostly, debating a feminist is like trying to catch a live fish with your hands coated in oil. They won't stick to any point and will just jump from one topic to another in an attempt to score points against you. It's futile.
/r/MensRights14/01/23 01:28 AM

The standard feminist response to this is that they are killed by other men, so...... They rarely go the next step and explain the significance of this observation, though. I call it "argument by innuendo". For some illogical reason they expect us to consider that because men are to blame for killing other men, those deaths are somehow less significant than the death of a woman by the hands of a man. It's illogical I know, but that's what they do.

In a democracy, men and women are equal parts of the voting population. Therefore women have equal political power to men. There is nothing preventing them from voting in female politicians if they want to. So, no, men don't hold "all the power" in a democracy.

Anything that feminists do or say regarding gender relationships or gender issues is feminism. And that includes a lot of stuff I want nothing to do with.

"All comments must come from a feminist perspective" is just a rewording of "if you disagree with anything we say you will be banned". In other words, echo-chamber comments allowed only.

That's because feminism is, in effect, a trade union for women. It advocates for its members, and only for them.
/r/AntiFeminists10/12/22 04:31 AM
22

No. Provided you include men as potential victims and women as potential perpetrators. Normally male victims are treated as if they don't exist.
/r/MensRights05/12/22 01:56 AM

I once heard feminism described as being, effectively, a "trade union for women". It advocates for women and women only. Which would be OK, I guess, if the ideology wasn't also quite antagonistic and resentful towards men in general.

Same here in Australia. Nothing. Happy Men's Day everyone. Also, f*#k Google for consistently refusing to do a simple Doodle on Nov 19th. It's not as if they are unaware. Someone there has made the conscious decision to not acknowledge International Men's Day

50% of the voting population is female. Therefore men and women have an equal say in who "leads" a country. That's not a patriarchy. Feminism can define a term in any way it likes, of course, but it can't be expected that everyone will follow that definition.
/r/AntiFeminists10/11/22 10:44 PM

Would you consider the concepts of Patriarchy, Toxic Masculinity and Mansplaining to be feminist concepts?

The standard response to this is that men are assaulted by other men. The unstated implication being that therefore those assaults don't count. Don't ask me why, but that's feminist logic for you.

/r/MensRights06/10/22 01:19 AM

Ask them questions about their beliefs. Watch how quickly they get fed up with having to justify themselves. For example, "how is the pay gap calculated "? "Why do you think it involves unfair treatment of women?" "If men on average work longer hours than women, why do you expect that their average earnings will be the same?".
/r/MensRights05/10/22 02:13 AM

No. You can be anything you want and not be a feminist. Or a communist. Or a Christian. Or a Muslim. Or any one of hundreds of other ideologies. It's a rhetorical trick they use. If you are not X then you are Y. No you're not. You are what you say you are.
/r/MensRights26/09/22 05:45 AM

You broke the rules. All comments must come from a feminist perspective. Which is feminist newspeak for no comments must disagree with their opinions.
/r/AntiFeminists25/09/22 10:36 PM
2

Which means you are not in favour of equality of outcome. Same as me. But for many feminists, that is what they mean by "equality".
/r/AntiFeminists25/09/22 07:47 AM
3

Let's say you are hiring for a company that has more male workers than female workers. You can give preference to female applicants so that you work towards an outcome of equality of gender representation in your workplace. Or you can give all applicants equal opportunity in the selection process, but you may not achieve gender parity that way. You can't do both.
/r/AntiFeminists24/09/22 11:06 PM
3

"Equality" in this context has no clear definition either. It's a principle that can be applied in desirable, or undesirable, ways. Saying feminism is "about equality" tells me very little. For example, are you in favour of equality of opportunity, or equality of outcome? Often, you can't have both.
/r/AntiFeminists24/09/22 10:46 PM
10

There is no consistent definition of feminism. If someone tells me they're a feminist, then they are. You may as well ask what Christianity or Communism mean. It depends on who you ask.

She's the kind of person who says horrible things about men, and then when called out on it attributes the responses to "fragile masculinity". She's an idiot. She also went out if her way to get a guy fired from his job because he said something mildly offensive about her.

Don't take this the wrong way, but to be honest, it's hard to tell what's going on when we are only getting your account of the situation. I don't doubt you're being perfectly honest but, nonetheless, relationships can be terribly complicated things.

Or...."A hidden tragedy. Why do men sometimes live longer than women?"
/r/AntiFeminists31/07/22 02:39 AM
2

Yikes. Hopefully your female peers are representative of a small, specialised, ideologically based and naive section of society (ie: young female college students) and not of society as a whole. I feel confident that this is in fact the case.
/r/MensRights27/07/22 11:08 AM
2

No, they wouldn't. Fortunately, most women are not feminists.
/r/MensRights26/07/22 11:49 PM
3

There is no single definition. It seems to be one if those "it depends who ask" things. Feminism is a loosely defined ideology, and as such is a bag of related ideas, opinions, premises and attitudes.
/r/AntiFeminists25/07/22 11:54 PM
26

No, feminists don't hate men. But they tyoucally have an antagonistic and resentful attitude towards men as a class, which is just as bad. Thankfully far less than half of women are such feminists. Most women are just fine, just as most men are.
/r/MensRights24/07/22 12:04 PM

Take any two easily definable demographics and measure the average income for each, entire, demographic. Would you ever expect them to be equal? No. How about......Australians aged 20 to 40 born in Australia, and Australians aged 20 to 40 born overseas. Now you have a wage gap based on immigration. Oh no. Repeat for your chosen demographic of interest. Only by chance will the figures ever be the same.
/r/MensRights13/07/22 06:01 AM
6

I've had one. The doctor told me that it is pretty much irreversible. It's possible to reverse one, but not likely. If you get one it's because you don't want to father any children ever from that point on.
/r/AntiFeminists11/07/22 12:17 PM

Ok, but your original question only mentioned the pills. No need to get stroppy.
/r/MensRights09/07/22 10:22 AM

Because a vasectomy is a surgical procedure. Not quite the same thing as just popping a pill with a glass of water.
/r/MensRights09/07/22 07:23 AM

"Men had all the money". No they didn't. There were plenty of rich women and poor men 50 years ago.
/r/MensRights07/07/22 03:50 AM
6

How are those things due to "the patriarchy"? I've always thought the idea of the patriarchy was just a made up feminist concept that makes blaming men for random stuff easier.
/r/MensRights06/07/22 11:37 PM
7

Yes, they are now equal. Whether that is a good thing is a separate question, as it is in the reproductive rights debate. In the rich/poor case, no, it's not good for the rich kid, although there could be positives, such as that he or she may learn a valuable life lesson. That's about the limit of the analogy. Is it a "win" for the poor kid? No. Why would it be?
/r/MensRights05/07/22 11:04 PM
40

They choose whatever definition suits them at the time. I don't waste my time trying to understand feminists if they are not willing to calmly discuss these things, which mostly they are not.
/r/AntiFeminists05/07/22 02:32 PM
1

The "Patriarchy" is concept that is so poorly defined, it's indistinguishable from a vague conspiracy theory. To answer your question, you would need a clear and precise definition of "The Patriarchy", which you are unlikely to get. At least, I've never seen one.
/r/MensRights04/07/22 06:24 AM

Thank you
/r/MensRights02/07/22 11:30 PM

Because not everyone categorises abortion as a "reproductive right". Can you define the term "reproductive right"?

Who hasn't been banned from r/feminism?
/r/AntiFeminists11/06/22 07:27 AM

Feminists don't want to include people who disagree with them in their club. You're not missing anything.
/r/AntiFeminists08/06/22 10:11 PM
49

I suspect they don't actually care about men in any way. This is just damage control, because it's so unusual for a man to be thought of as a victim and a woman as the abuser. It contradicts their narrative so they have to do something about it. In this case they just jump off the sinking ship "SS Heard" onto the more fashionable HMAS Depp and hope no-one notices.
/r/MensRights26/05/22 01:15 PM

/r/MensRights26/05/22 11:37 AM
31

And I thought the art of the euphemism had reached its' full potential. Clearly I was wrong.
/r/MensRights23/05/22 07:15 AM

Exactly. It's the same premise used in response to the fact that men are more likely to be victims of violence than women. They say " but the violence comes from other men".
/r/MensRights22/05/22 09:18 AM

Women of the world.......the men in your country will no longer agree to fight in wars. Enjoy being invaded.

They are ideologues. Their purpose is to promote their ideology, which is fixed and not open to debate. Their only interest is in whether you agree or not. If you agree, you are correct. If you don't agree, you are incorrect. To them, there is no purpose in a debate or discussion. Why debate something when it is perfectly clear who is right and who is wrong?

What you are describing is an ideologically based view of history, and this view is one of the reasons I don't agree with feminist ideology. What does "society is made by and for men" mean? Today, women can do anything men can. In the past, it was different, but not because of any nefarious oppression by men of women. It's easy to forget how privileged we are now, but in the past life for most people in most cultures was a struggle for survival. You would be lucky to reach the age of 50, or even…

You will need to define it first, but for now here is an example of the terms' use. I base judgement of a term like this partly from its usage, so I can talk about the use of the term in this example at least. This was part of a discussion of domestic violence on the Australian Radio National channel. The speaker said " Men are socialised through patriarchy to be violent towards women". Firstly, the word "men" is used without qualification, so I assume the speaker means men generally, in other w…

Good. Fight to redefine feminism and I may end up on your side. As for whether I think those topics are baseless, I could give a long or short answer. My short answer would be..yes, I think they are ideologically generated concepts without much basis in reality.
/r/MensRights14/04/22 04:11 AM

No, I'm not suggesting you should stop identifying as a feminist, and I am not demonising everyone who does. My position is that there are many aspects of feminism as it is currently understood that I do not wish to endorse or be associated with. These include such concepts as Patriarchy, Toxic Masculinity, Fragile Masculinity, Mansplaing and the generalisations applied to men as a class by many feminists, the concept of Male Violence being one of these. It all depends on how you define feminism. And there is no single definition. So, you may have a personal version of the feminist ideology that works for you and which does not demonise or otherwise stereotype men in general. In which case, great. Good for you, and there will be much we may agree on. However, there are so many problematic ideas and concepts that exist among feminists in general that I could never identify as a feminist. It's tribalism. If a man kills a man, he's committing violence within his own tribe, and men fight amongst themselves all the time anyway, so what do you expect? Men kill each other, and they only have themselves to blame. However, if a man kills a woman, he is crossing a line, literally, and killing outside his tribe. That's how they justify only being outraged by violence by men against women. Pure tribalism. Treating men as no more than members of the male tribe, and women as no more than mem…

I agree with all you've said. It is victim blaming. How often do you hear , in response to the fact that men are more likely to be victims of violence, that ".......yeah, but they're attacked by other men". As if that somehow makes it less important.

No, masculinity is simply the state of being male. You can't define masculinity by saying "masculinity is when......". Does that mean that men who are not tall, stoic etc are not masculine? That assumption is right there in your "definition" of masculinity. Read it again if you have to. Why are you denying the state of masculinity to men who are short? Don't they have just as much right to be masculine as other men? And why is it "toxic" if a man is expected to be stoic or confident, as your las…
/r/AntiFeminists13/03/22 01:01 PM

You claim that "society" (whatever that is) has criteria for an " ideal man", and also "expectations" of men. Both come, apparently, from the same source, so why are they so different? One is just masculinity, which presumably is not toxic, and the other is toxic masculinity. You are using terms without clearly defining what they mean.
/r/AntiFeminists13/03/22 08:22 AM
3

They are if you start off by defining them as bad. Are there any good gender stereotypes?
/r/AntiFeminists12/03/22 10:52 PM
2

So, those expectations are not part of society's idea of an ideal man? So then, why do you describe them as society's expectations?
/r/AntiFeminists12/03/22 10:49 PM
30

Because of the myth of male privilege.
/r/MensRights12/03/22 06:10 AM
15

So, "masculinity" is "being comfortable with the fact that you're a man". And "toxic masculinity is "anything that forces your masculinity onto other people". Ok. So, you've defined masculinity with the first comment, so "toxic masculinity" is "anything that forces your sense of being comfortable with the fact that you're a man onto other people". Sorry, but that is complete nonsense. Please try to employ at least a little bit of logic when you try to argue something.

You haven't understood what the OP was saying. Yes...we should encourage women who stand up to warped feminist ideology. Why the hell wouldn't we? It's not a contest to see how much men can achieve without women. Most women are normal, decent caring people like most men are, and, like us, think that hateful feminist ideology is garbage. The more of them that speak up, the better.
/r/MensRights04/03/22 06:31 AM
28

It's not strange at all. These are normal women. You shouldn't judge them by a feminist stereotype any more than feminists should judge men in general by a handful of male psychos. Unfortunately, this is exactly what feminists do. Don't sink to their level. Men are laying their lives on the line in Ukraine.

For my part, I'm happy to have them here to debate. Most feminists have spent so much time in echo chambers being agreed with that an honest debate with them can only help our cause because they will realise that their view of non feminists is probably horribly wrong.

As I understand it, it is to do with some kind of male bias in visual arts, including film. I don't take the term seriously, though, as it is way too vague and is usually used as a way to criticise men generally. As an example of its use, the actor Jodie Whittacker, who played the most recent Dr Who, described previous incarnations of the show as being filmed through the "white male gaze". What that means precisely is anyone's guess, but it seems very sexist and racist to me.
/r/MensRights24/01/22 08:30 AM

It's a specialised term belonging to feminist ideology. It means whatever they want it to mean. I wouldn't bother thinking much further than that.

"Sus" is a word, not a phrase. As far I know it has no racial connotations. It's usually an adjective that means "suspect" or "suspicious".

Feminism is an ideology that involves a wide range of premises and concepts. If someone identifies as a feminist they are by default identifying with the most common of these concepts, unless they specifically oppose them. I agree with feminist concepts such as that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities, but I don't agree with concepts like the patriarchy, toxic masculinity, fragile masculinity, mansplaining, male privilege and others. In addition, there is no reason why I sho…

Unfortunately, experience is the best teacher. And even then, it's hard to know. Women are experts at manipulation when it comes to men. If you're a guy in his late teens or early twenties be aware that women your age are likely to have had a lot more practical experience in the social dark arts than you have. Be wary.
/r/AntiFeminists06/01/22 12:59 PM

I wouldn't attribute bad characteristics to either gender as a generalisation. That's a bad road to go down, and feminism has already taken that route with regard to men in general. Don't follow them.
/r/MensRights06/01/22 12:54 PM
1

The term "feminism" has no clear definition. It means different things to different people. It is also an umbrella term for a wide variety of concepts, some of which I support and others which I don't. Someone who calls themselves a feminist often simply chooses from a wide variety of available concepts and forms a personal ideology out of them that suits themselves. So it's very difficult to discuss feminism unless both parties agree on a working definition of it. In my experience, discussions …

Yes, I agree. In any case, if your position is that you think only a very low percentage of men are responsible for something, "not all men" is not the way to express that. Feminists play with language constantly and this debate is an example of that.
/r/MensRights18/12/21 09:40 PM
1

I am as anti-feminist as anyone. But language matters, and it's hardly ever simple or straightforward. I don't really understand what you are objecting to. Why on earth is "not all men are abusers" preferable to "most men are not abusers"?
/r/MensRights18/12/21 12:39 PM

Sorry, but yes it does. I don't know what EOS means.
/r/MensRights18/12/21 12:35 PM

Because 1) implies that most men are abusers, or at the very least allows that inference. While 2) does none of the above. Why do you prefer the wording of 1)? Both can be used in the same situation.

/r/MensRights18/12/21 06:55 AM

It's three words. An isolated phrase. I can't agree or disagree with it. I can talk about how it is used, though. If you want to discuss it, that's great. But first you'll need to explain what the phrase means to you, Otherwise we'll have no common ground.

How do I know who the "real" feminists are? Maybe you are not a "real" feminist? As a man, if a woman calls herself a feminist, do I have the right to question that? Surely that would be "mansplaining". Your argument is an example of the 'No True Scotsman ' fallacy.

If I'm going to identify with an ideology, I need a really strong reason to do so. I don't need a particularly strong reason not to identify with an ideology. Feminists, if they are interested in spreading their message, need to convince men like me to join them. But, they are notoriously uninterested in even trying to do that, preferring instead to hide in their echo chambers and blame others for not agreeing with them. So, in return, I don't care about them either.

As I understand it, in the UK men were granted universal suffrage in 1918, women in 1928. Before 1918 many men over the age of 21 were not allowed to vote, yet were fighting and dying in the war. Universal suffrage for women was delayed partly because there were so few men left alive and it was thought they needed some 'positive discrimination'. Universal suffrage across the board would have happened anyway regardless of the activities of the suffragettes, who were active before 1914.

/r/MensRights07/07/21 05:59 AM
6

It's one of those words that means whatever someone wants it to mean. Feminists employ lots of words that they have either invented or adopted, with deliberately vague definitions. What exactly is The Patriarchy? What does Toxic Masculinity mean? What is Mansplaining? Instead of wondering what these words should mean, you should demand a clear definition from anyone who uses them . You probably won't get that, though. Ideologues hate having to explain themselves.
/r/MensRights06/07/21 10:25 AM
1

I don't have to. And you don't have to talk about this if you don't want to, either. Your view of men in general seems horribly negative. You honestly think men, generally, don't care about their children? Question....are you male or female?

For most of human history men and women have worked together, because they needed to to survive. Maybe you're the one who needs to take off your feminist glasses and see the world as it is and was. It's a far more complicated place than your narrow ideology would have you believe.

Exactly. Instead of " not all men", just say "very few men". Feminists are very clever in their manipulation of language, and men often are not aware of it.

It depends what you mean by feminist. I believe men and women should have equal rights and opportunities, but I still object to many feminist concepts, such as toxic masculinity, and therefore would not describe myself as a feminist.
/r/AntiFeminists04/06/21 12:29 AM

That's not the point. My point was that they exclude any viewpoints they don't agree with. Therefore they will not engage in debate. Reread my comment if you need to.
/r/AntiFeminists04/06/21 12:27 AM

I think you'll find the opposite is true. Normal people just don't care about feminism. They've got better things to do. So they don't talk about it.

It's an echo chamber. They won't tolerate non feminist viewpoints. I find it amusing when they have posts asking " Why are some people ant-feminist?", because they will never get an answer without listening to non-feminists. I'm not banned, but that's only because I haven't posted anything.

Here is the issue. A lot of us here have deep problems with attempts to shut down men's voices, as in the Red Pill affair. Also with insulting generalisations about men and other activities of feminists. Are these people 'real' feminists? Well, they consider themselves to be feminists and they have every right to do so. The fact that you personally may think they are not means absolutely nothing. I would go further and say that your refusal to disavow their actions tells me that you probably agr…

I don't accept your definition. I don't think it serves to describe feminism adequately. Feminists tried to get The Red Pill banned. Is that the action of a real feminist? You should be able to tell me based on your definition. You don't have to know these people personally, you can judge them by their actions. Is banning this film part of the the "fight for equality of the genders"? If you wish to defend your point of view you'll have to be prepared give me an answer and stand by your definitio…

If I, as a man tried to tell a woman that she wasn't a 'real' feminist, that would be a bad case of mansplaining, wouldn't it? Were the feminists who tried to ban the Red Pill movie 'real feminists? The insidious premise behind this is that male behaviour is, in general, worse than female behaviour. Which is why the "apology" was only by boys to girls. It's a horrible and harmful message, especially when given to children. It's also typical of modern feminism. This is not a trivial matter. As I said in another comment, the boys deserve an apology from the Principal.
/r/MensRights05/04/21 11:43 PM

I would like to apologise for being Australian. Fortunately, though, I live in New South Wales. If I had a son tin that school, I would demand the Principal apologise publicly to the boys, otherwise I would take my son out and encourage others to do the same.
/r/MensRights05/04/21 07:35 AM
26

God yes. I hate this. It's a way of dismissing male victims of violence. As if men have some kind of collective guilt for the violence a small number of men commit.
/r/MensRights30/03/21 10:10 AM

I never fail to be impressed by how bad feminist logic is. 1 in 3 women are assaulted by a man in their lifetime? Ok, let's take that for granted for now.. How does that translate to "enough men"? It doesn't. The percentage of men who commit violent crime is tiny, far less that 1%. Rather than say "not all men are rapists", we should be saying "almost no men are rapists".
/r/MensRights20/03/21 03:52 AM

Thank you. We all need to be aware of how language is used to manipulate an argument. It's subtle, effective, and feminists, being mostly women, are very good at it.
/r/AntiFeminists15/03/21 12:01 AM
136

It's not "not all men". It's "hardly any men". If you say "not all men assault women", you are implying that most men do, and a small percentage do not. Contrast that with "hardly any men assault women", which is closer to the truth since only a tiny percentage of men commit violent crime. The feminist argument that the phrase "not all men" is used to refute the claim that men in general are dangerous is in itself an example of the way they try to manipulate language.

/r/MensRights24/02/21 01:05 AM

Couldn't agree more. I've always thought that language is the main tool of feminism. They will define words and terms the way they want to, and then use those definitions to criticise men using a kind of circular logic.
/r/MensRights24/02/21 01:03 AM

Nobody 'takes rape lightly'. Except maybe rapists. Ask around the men and women you know. How many of them do you think would say that rape is no big deal? And what exactly do you mean when you say 'bring men up'? Up from where? You seem to be confirming the OP's sentiment.
/r/MensRights24/02/21 12:17 AM

'Men' didn't 'invent marriage. It's a piece of social organisation which developed along with society as a whole. It wasn't invented by any single group. If anything, it's a way for men and women to work together for the sake of the family.
/r/MensRights23/02/21 10:11 PM

It's because they want to control what words mean. If you control what words mean, you have control over any discussion you may have using those words. Words are a feminist's main weapon. Even the word 'men' is defined in different ways by feminists. Sometimes it means 'men generally', sometimes it means 'men who commit violent crime', and often two different definitions of a word are used in the same sentence. As in "men rape women, so we should teach men not to rape". Be aware of these fallaci…

Which men? Which women? Well, men and women in general, because they don't specify any other demographic. Which means most men, most women. Are most men are threat to most women, as they are implying? No. Whoever wrote this is full of %%^&&**.

I like this response. It explains the gender swapping of male fictional characters to female in order to make a point. E.g.. Ghostbusters, Dr Who, Star Wars, Terminator..etc. It's not about strong female characters. There are plenty of them. It's about destroying male characters.

Feminists have a standard response to this. It's "but wars are the fault of men, so they've got no-one to blame but themselves". Classic identity group based thinking, and typical of feminism. Treat 'men' as a homogenous group and assign characteristics equally to the group as a whole and to its individual members. Also rubbish, of course. More and more, I'm realising the role that linguistic manipulation plays in feminist rhetoric. It's related to the response to "men are more likely to be the …

It's a deliberately sexist word. Whatever it is supposed to describe, which is not really clear, it's something both men and women do. As far as I can tell, they are trying to suggest that men are much more likely to be arrogant, condescending pricks than women are. This is, of course, not true. Feminism loves to invent words like this which, like the Trojan Horse, they hope will sneak in a concept which criticises men, and men only. Don't accept the word or the concept it embodies.
/r/MensRights09/02/21 10:49 AM

Consider this phrase: "Men rape women, so we need to teach men not to rape". On the surface, it sounds reasonable, right? Wrong. It's an example of the 'equivocation fallacy'. The term "men" is used twice, and we are supposed to think it means the same thing each time. But it doesn't. The first time, it means "men who rape women". Or, rapists. A tiny, tiny, percentage of the male population. The second time, it means just "men generally". This kind of verbal subterfuge, which confuses two differ…

This was in Melbourne, Australia. The 18% tax was 'optional' (otherwise it would have been illegal). I remember them saying that 'no man has so far refused to pay it'. So much so that the term 'feminist' itself has a deeply perjorative meaning to many people, especially men, for obvious reasons. On this subreddit, all views are welcome (unlike the feminist subreddits where you will be banned for asking the wrong question or having an unacceptable reddit history (yes, they do look)). But be prepared to be argued with. It's part of …

Men and women in developed countries do receive equal pay for equal work. The gender pay gap does not deal with individual rates of pay, so if you disagree with my first sentence you'll have to provide some other evidence. As for your questions, for every women burdened with taking care of the home there is likely a man burdened with working to pay for that home, so where is the injustice there? Women in developed countries have the same access to education that men have. Why are most University…
/r/MensRights28/12/20 04:46 AM

You haven't answered my question. The gender pay gap is a difference in average earnings between men and women, as it says in the first paragraph of the first article. A difference in average earnings between demographic groups is not the same as a difference in rates of pay between individuals. This is a common misunderstanding. Men and women still earn equal pay for equal work, but male average earnings are greater. Reasons include men working longer average hours, women taking time out for fa…

/r/MensRights28/12/20 01:59 AM

I understand perfectly what you are saying. I have heard the equity vs equality distinction before. Men and women do have equal pay. In Australia, where I am, and in most developed countries there are laws that ensure men and women are paid equally for the same work. These laws have been in force for at least half a century here. Affirmative action programs based solely on gender treat people not as individuals but as members of a gendered class. Your ideology holds that women as a class are dis…

Ummm........projection?
/r/MensRights27/12/20 11:19 AM

That's what I thought. You advocate treating people unequally in the name of equality. That is precisely why many of us have a problem with feminism. This kind of doublespeak is everywhere in the movement. I don't buy it. You can't treat individuals unequally because of the identity groups your ideology decides they belong to. And, to be clear, you are advocating giving women advantages over men on reasons of gender alone. That is not equality to anyone except feminists.
/r/MensRights27/12/20 07:16 AM
1

So, you don't think affirmative action programs are valid then? Because they don't treat people as equals. Or is your "equality" the 1984 kind. All people are equal but some are more equal than others?

Toxic Masculinity is associated with a lot of feminist myth-making. On our Australian national, taxpayer funded, radio network there was a discussion of TM, wherein it was said that men are "conditioned to solve problems through violence". Really? No we're not. If anything we're encouraged not to resort to violence. I really think feminists see men in general as being oafish brutes. Sort of like a cross between Vikings and Conan the Barbarian. It says more about them than it does about us, and I…

This is identity politics. They speak of men as individuals, and also of men as a class. And they confuse the two. It's either because they are being deliberately disingenuous, hoping no-one will notice, or they are just clueless when it comes to clear thinking. I tend to think it's a bit of both.

She meant "They didn't want to have me talk to them. They weren't prepared to listen to me.". She hasn't realised that if these boys feel that she has no respect for them, they won't have any respect for her. Respect only works when it works both ways. In the UK, men achieved universal suffrage in 1918. Women had to wait until 1928, but that was because the ratio of men to women was so low, since so many young men without the right to vote had been shot to pieces in the trenches. Here you are getting actual sincere replies, but if I were to go to a feminist forum and ask why, in my opinion, feminism is anti-male you can be sure I would be blocked immediately, with not even the pretence of an answer. That shows you the attitude that many feminists have for men and their opinions. Try it some time.

The idea that men have problems dealing with emotions and therefore suffer unique mental problems is a feminist myth. Men and women are not the same, and feminists sometimes interpret this as meaning men are dysfunctional in some way, but they're wrong. So which type of feminist believes in toxic masculinity? Mansplaining? The patriarchy? The wage gap? Is it the 'real' feminists or the feminazi? I'll wait.

The 'pay gap' is a difference in average earnings between men and women taken across the entire workforce. It's a valid statistic, as far as it goes. But feminists simply stop there and don't bother asking why the average earnings differ. They simply assume it has to be due to some kind of oppressive discrimination against women, when it actually isn't. It's due to many factors, including the fact that men on average work longer hours.

Don't be depressed. Many feminists are bigoted ideologues, it's true. But have faith in "normal" people. Most people are decent and caring individuals. You may think you're surrounded by feminists now, but as you grow up and move through life you'll find that most people are not like that. Most people are down to earth folk getting through their lives with no time for that bullshit. If someone is mean to you, turn your back on them and walk away. You'll be glad you did. I've worked as a teacher in primary (elementary) schools here in Australia. What can easily happen if the rest of the staff are mainly female is that they become very cliquey amongst themselves and you will never feel like part of the team, no matter what you do and no matter how good you are at your job. The parents will happily accept and support you if the kids like you, but the rest of the staff can be a different story. It gets very demoralising after a while.

Because, in the minds of the 'woke', there has to be a hierarchy of oppression. People are oppressed by race, gender and sexuality. Perfectly logical, really.

Totally agree. Men and women express emotion, often, in different ways. A woman may look at a man and think he has problems expressing emotion. A classic example of a 'moral panic'. "Incels", whoever they are, are a vaguely defined group of people who are suposedly posing a threat to decent society. And the key term in my previous sentence is 'vaguely'. We've seen this before. There is always some political motive behind moral panics. The target group is ill defined on purpose, so that random and harmless people can be included in it as necessary.

I'd be interested to learn if the word "man" used in Old English and Latin are related, or if their uses are coincidental, given that it's a very simple syllable.

And "landlord" is nowhere near the same as "owner".
/r/MensRights19/05/20 08:55 AM

In Old English, many centuries ago, the terms for man and woman used to be "wereman" for male and "woman" for female. The suffix "man" simply meaning human, as that word does today. Over many centuries, "wereman" became "man", but the prefix lives on in the term "werewolf", meaning a human wolf. So the word "man", when used as a prefix or suffix in a longer word, is, historically speaking, gender neutral.

It's been tried. Ever seen "The Red Pill"? Remember how the feminists tried get the film banned? The best "un self aware" moment is when the nefarious "Big Red" says that men are free to create their own movement if they want to, and then elsewhere in the film is one of a group of women who (illegally) pull the fire alarm on a group of men trying to peacefully discuss things amongst themselves.

The dictionary definition doesn't mean much. Communism is all about equality too, but that doesn't mean we should all be communists. Feminism is a very loose term. I use it to mean whatever those who identify as feminists say and do.
/r/MensRights16/05/20 01:49 AM
1

But.. do men ( she doesn't qualify the term, so I can only assume she means men in general, in other words most men) really "systematically fail as fathers and traumatised their children"? Really? I don't think so. Most fathers, like most mothers are ordinary people with ordinary flaws who try to do the best for their kids. I just love the way feminists generalise from something a few men do to something most men do, as if it's a natural progression.
/r/MensRights15/05/20 06:45 AM

She's not "clapping back", as you put it. She's doxxing a child. It doesn't matter what this kid said. He's 14 and her bullying response is not only nasty, it's harmful to the child and his family, and I'm surprised such actions are not illegal. If you think Ford's actions are laudable, then you're pretty much as bad as she is. This is not "woman hating", it's calling out harmful behaviour by one single individual for what it is. If a man did it my response would be the same. A question for you.…

He's 14. He's still a child. Ford is a horrible person. One thing I absolutely cannot stand are people who are cruel to children. She does these things purely to draw attention to herself, and she succeeds, a bit anyway.

I know feminists say that "not all men are toxic", but the very concept of toxic masculinity is misleading and harmful, and one that I reject. There is nothing 'toxic' about masculinity itself, just as there is nothing 'toxic' about femininity. It's just feminist wordplay designed to manipulate ideas. No, but feminist groups did threaten cinemas who were screening it, to the extent that some screenings were cancelled. Most of these women (and some men) hadn't seen the movie. When you watch the Red Pill, you realise that the hysteria around it was pure hatred for men's groups, nothing more. And it's an attitude that I believe Australian feminist groups simply imported from the USA, without actually thinking much about it.

Sorry to hear all of that. I hope you get through it all ok. The Red Pill's a great movie. I'm Australian, and when Cassie Jaye was out here the media treated her like she was Leni Reifenstall. It was apalling, and showed just how much the misandrist feminist propaganda which preceded the movie's release had worked. Many reasons. They tend to be ideologues, who don't want to explore issues with anyone who doesn't agree with them, which makes conversations with them pointless, often. Thanks for reminding me to read the post. I already did that though. Razors are still not an essential hygiene item in the same class as tampons. Normally, no-one dies or suffers health related issues from not shaving. Instead of insulting other people, why don't you use your brain, if you have one, before opening your big mouth?
/r/MensRights29/03/20 11:26 AM

Because tampons are an essential item, razors are not. Don't go down this road, it makes you as bad as them.
/r/MensRights28/03/20 12:56 AM
8

Because it's based on the premise that men are so privileged and advantaged that achieving "equality" means only advocating for women. That, and stripping some men of their supposed privilege. It's an axiom that is so basic to feminism that, without it, feminism can't exist. And that's why most feminists don't want to discuss feminism with anyone who doesn't agree with them.
/r/AntiFeminists24/03/20 02:52 AM

r/feminism is the mother (sorry...non gender specific carer) of all echochambers. The only way you *won't* be banned is if you agree with everything else on there. Standard feminist response:. "But they're killed by other men.". I've never fully understood the logic behind this response, but that's probably because it doesn't have any. Men are killed by other men, so............their deaths aren't as significant as those of women killed by men? I gave up trying to understand feminism long, long ago.

Christina Hoff Sommers, Janice Fiamengo. Camille Paglia is on our side too.
/r/AntiFeminists05/03/20 12:52 PM

That's because most feminists are women. Women tend to try to get their way with words. Men tend to try to get their way with actions. I think that's why. Buzz words are designed to obscure, misdirect and mislead.
/r/MensRights04/03/20 03:00 AM
8

Feminism views society in terms of a struggle between the genders. Men as the oppressors and women as the oppressed. They are not interested in compassion or understanding for all. To them, it is a war of attrition, and only one side can be ultimately victorious. Arndt pisses them off for many reasons, one being that she is a traitor who has defected to the enemy. She deserves her medal.
/r/MensRights24/02/20 11:23 AM

Complain and tell them you're not comfortable with women using the same restroom as you. Tell them you fear the possibility of being falsley accused of sexual misconduct due to misunderstanding or malice. If they don't listen just keep on complaining and assure them you won't be using their business until they return to having a male restroom.

Feminists, being mostly women, whose language skills are on average better than men's, are experts at the manipulation of language for political purposes. Whenever a feminist speaks, it's worth dissecting the language they use. They will use weighted terms, assumed premises and all kinds of slippery verbal tricks with you. An example is that these days they'll use the term "parity" instead of "equality", because then they can defend obviously unequal treatment by appealing to circumstances not d…

Your post was perfectly fine. r/Feminism exists with a classic tribal ingroup/outgroup mentality. You are part of the outgroup because you are not conforming to the established opinions. Therefore you are banned. Individuality of thought is not a feature of these groups. You do not qualify to part of the club. Classic clique behaviour on the part of the moderators.

Most of the reasons for male suicide that I could dig up were toxic masculinity. They have mental illnesses but are discouraged from expressing their emotions since it isn't "manly". I still disagree that men, generally, think it's "unmanly" to express their emotions, in spite of what your brother says. You need to talk to more men. I see this, along with the whole theory of 'toxic masculinity' as a kind of feminist folklore. Toxic masculinity is not well defined, but if you can provide a fairly…

The wage gap is a difference in average earnings between men generally and women generally, it has nothing to do with actual rates of pay. Earnings and pay rates are not the same thing. No one has demonstrated that this difference in average earnings is in any way the result of unfair discrimination against women, but if you'd like to correct me on this I'll be happy to hear what you have to say.

In England, men over 21 didn't receive universal suffrage until 1918. Women had to wait ten more years, until 1928. And that was only because so many men had been sent off to be shot and blown apart in Europe (many over 21 yet not being able to vote), that the ratio of women to men was heavily skewed. So, in the interests of voting equity, the men that were left were given a slight advantage. But they earned it.

I've been there. You can't win, because they will only talk to you on their own terms. They are happy to tell you what they think, but they won't want to actually talk about it with you. If they don't control the conversation, they will just quit, usually with a final bitchy insult thrown at you on the way out. I couldn't agree more. Feminists, being mostly women, are experts at using language itself as a weapon. Men tend, I think, to use language for purposes of explanation and to use it in a more logic- based way. Women's language skills are, on average, better than men's, and they have grown up weaponising language within their peer groups. Just think of the stereotypical bitchy insults women use against each other. As you point out, using terms they have defined themselves forces you to accept all …

"When legitimate feminists talk about misogyny, they refer to systematic oppression".....I'm curious. What is a 'legitimate feminist' supposed to be? Someone who agrees with you, I suppose? Anyway, if you don't like the attitudes of other members of this group you're free to disagree, or leave, or whatever. I've made my points clearly and there's nothing more I need to say here.
/r/MensRights25/12/19 03:20 AM
1

It doesn't have to fit some arbitrary template for "systematic oppression" for it to be a gender based issue for men. The way you use language as a weapon makes you sound like feminist. If 'misogyny' is an issue for feminism then the routine demonisation and insulting of men as a class is for men also. I can only repeat what I have already said. I reject your criteria for deciding what is and isn't worthy of being called a 'mens' rights issue'.
/r/MensRights24/12/19 09:25 PM

It is an issue for a lot of us. If that's not good enough for you, what else can I tell you? You don't get to decide what issues other people care about. Bro.

The demonisation of men as a class, which is a form of sexism, is a men's rights issue. That's why the post is here. It's pervasive, and is often accepted without comment. I for one think it's very important to call it out.
/r/MensRights20/12/19 10:31 AM

I've read the article. It reads like a clueless first semester undergraduate gender studies assignment. It's awful. For example, the author mentions that 45% of men cite that the biggest factor stopping them from being vegan was 'social stigma'. Her source? A Twitter poll. Right. I wonder what excuse women have? This article is nothing but one long naive, misinformed and bigoted bitch session about how terrible white men are. Forgive me if I can't take the idiot who wrote this trash seriously.
/r/MensRights19/12/19 01:30 PM
2

" Yet, a recent Twitter poll had 45 per cent men report that their biggest barrier to a vegan diet was social stigma." A twitter poll you say? Now that's real research, I must say. Just the kind of penetrating, in depth, research I would expect from the Professor Of Gender And War at the University of Sydney.

/r/MensRights16/12/19 10:10 AM

/r/MensRights16/12/19 02:42 AM
1

Feminism is more than that. A lot more. Mansplaining, manspreading, toxic masculinity.....these are all feminist terms. It was feminists who tried to ban screenings of " The Red Pill". Feminists define domestic violence as "men's violence against women". I can see a trend here.
/r/MensRights15/12/19 03:21 AM
15

The most important thing about that statement is the word "men". When it is used without qualification, it refers to men in general. That's most men. Not all men, not a small subset of men (like actual rapists), but most men. Feminists exploit this imprecision in the language constantly. Don't let them. When they say ' men are X' or 'men should do Y', ask them which men they are talking about and hold them to it. They are experts at manipulating language and will use that skill to get their way …
/r/MensRights15/12/19 12:48 AM

Absolutely. Feminists are experts at the manipulation of language. It starts with the word "men". Consider this sentence:. "It's men that rape women, so we need to teach men not to rape.". Superficially, it sounds reasonable, but the word men is used twice and refers to a different subset of men each time. First, rapists, and, secondly, men generally. The two classes of men are then conflated, with men in general being associated with violent criminals. This kind of thing happens constantly with…

I just checked recent census statements here in Australia. In 2016 (the most recent I could find quickly) the average number of hours worked per week was 39 for men and 30 for women. That matches pretty closely with the 1hr/45min ratio.

I agree. I've been in discussions just like that. Women are good with words and they like to argue with appeals to emotion, red herrings and changes of topic. The only option is to be very logical and argue by asking them questions, rather than expounding your own views, because they won't listen. If you try to pin them down by asking them to explain what they actually mean by their arguments, or to support them with evidence I've found they get irritated or angry, because they are used to argui…

If you reply to a statistic like this by mentioning that men are more at risk of murder than women, the standard feminist response is "but they're killed by other men". I've never fully understood the logic behind this. Are they implying that because other men are involved, then the victims are somehow complicit in there own deaths? I suspect the real reason is that the motive behind all of these claims is to demonise men, and pointing out that men are more likely to be victims of violence is un…

They are ideologues. I've been banned from feminist sites as well, when all I was looking for was a genuine conversation about feminists issues. They don't like to talk with anyone, especially a man, who disagrees with them. They're happy to tell you what they think, but they won't want to actually discuss it with you. To some of them, if you disagree with them you're not only wrong, but also therefore morally flawed, or worse. It's a waste of time.
/r/MensRights03/10/19 02:34 PM

Not unhappy about this at all. Like all hard core feminists, they preferred to ignore male victims of DV, and, furthermore, with the phrase "men's violence against women", were treating men as a class which is collectively responsible for domestic violence. Identity politics at its best.

They won't answer. They'll change the subject, usually by quoting a statistic of some sort. Anything but actually answer the question. Arguing with a feminist is like playing chess with a pigeon.

She was on a public panel with historian David Starkey, and made the big mistake of accusing him of some kind of tax dodging or something ( because he's part of the white male patriarchy I guess). Feminists are incapable of understanding the concept of a "double standard". Really. They'll invent a million excuses and ways of avoiding admitting that such a thing could exist in feminism.
/r/MensRights20/07/19 06:19 AM

This has happened so often now ( Ghostbusters, Dr Who, Star Wars, Ocean's 11..) that we need a word for it. If "whitewashing" can refer to replacing coloured people with white people in stories or films, then I propose "Femwashing" for replacing establushed male characters with women. Not an elegant word, but not an elegant phenomenon.

Some years ago I was in the Art Gallery of NSW, Australia, with my baby son in a pram. He needed to be changed but the only baby change facilities were in the Women's restrooms. So I changed this dirty nappy right there in the gallery while other visitors wandered past. A group of Chinese women gathered around us and seemed highly amused. On my last visit I noticed there are now baby change facilities in the Men's room.

I have to agree with you there. Biological or not, that man owes his 'son' the same respect and love as his biological children, all other things being equal. He should aim his resentment at the mother, who deserves it. Not to the boy, who doesn't.

When this happened to Euridyce Dixon the police gave some helpful advice about safety. You know, try to avoid walking in dark areas alone at night, that sort of thing. This drew heated accusations of victim blaming from those who think women should not have to take any responsibility for their own safety. It appears this time the police have abandoned that approach and gone straight for the toxic masculinity response. I wonder what prompted the change?

I've been there. Divorce. She got custody. She would badmouth me to the kids, but I refused to say anything negative about her to them. The reason was that children will tend to judge a person's character by their actions. Their mother was bitter and vitriolic, while I, their father was, I hope, a person who communicated a positive and caring attitude. And now,a decade later, I think it's worked. You need to not just tell kids about how to live, you have to model it for them.

Before WW1, not all men could vote. Voting laws in England seemed to have been based on property ownership and other factors, probably having a lot to do with class. It was only after WW1, and the clear injustice of so many men dying for their country while at the same time not being able to vote, that universal suffrage for all, men and women, was achieved. The feminist idea that men simply had the vote and women didn't is not a clear representation of the reality.

If you can have your own definition, then I can have mine. I used the word 'arbitrary', meaning that no one definition is absolute. A doctor, for example, has to use the biological definition of gender, whereas laws regarding admittance to restrooms may use your definition. These supposedly "toxic" qualities have mostly been made up by feminists who just don't understand men. For example, men are less overt in their emotional displays than women are. This is perfectly natural and normal, but feminists like to characterise it as pathological. The same goes for most of the other attributes of TM. It's a kind of malicious feminist pop psychology. I bought a vintage safety razor from an antique store yesterday. It works great. You don't need those overpriced modern shaving systems. One thing to watch out for though, is that, although the Wilkinson Sword brand is normally a competitor to Gillette, Gillette own the WS brand name in India, and they sell WS blades with the usual WS logo, but made in India by Gillette. Don't be fooled into buying these, since your money will go to Proctor and Gamble, and Gillette.

But.....saying that your masculinity isn't toxic is a good thing. Isn't it? Should they be confessing that they are toxic instead? I can't keep up with this. It's almost like feminists just can't stand anyone else but them being in charge of the narrative.

EsraYmssik Thank you. This seems to clear things up. They appear to be a knock-off blade marked as both Gillette and WS. It's good to know I'm not supporting the 'real' Gillette, but I find it odd that my local Coles would stock these. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised. I might follow it up with Coles

According to information I could find, it seems Wilkinson Sword are indeed rivals to Gillette, but then how do I explain the blades I bought? Perhaps Gillette India is a distinct entity to Gillette USA and Australia? This is getting complicated.

I know it's aimed at men. Please go back and read my first post. I explained there why I object to this ad. If an ad aimed at women was to depict women in the same way that this ad depicts men, I would still have a problem with it. For an explanation of why i would, see my second post.
/r/MensRights15/01/19 04:25 AM

Everybody, no matter what their gender, should be encouraged to be the best they can be. If you think this ad is not sexist and misandrist, try reversing the roles and make it about women and girls instead. Would it still be ok if this were the case? How about a video suggesting that women, in general, need to do better and not be so bitchy or emotionally manipulative? Would that be reasonable? No, of course not. And neither is this. And, yes, it does try to suggest that is a 'problem' with men.
/r/MensRights15/01/19 03:51 AM

Well worded.
/r/MensRights15/01/19 03:01 AM

It's wrong because there is no problem with men in general. Most men. like most women, are simply decent human beings, flaws and all. The ad is conflating "men in general" with "men who are assholes". These two groups are not the same. But feminists will use the generalised term "men" to refer to them both. And many of us are convinced that they do it deliberately, because they dislike men in general. That's what the problem is.
/r/MensRights15/01/19 02:58 AM

The standard feminist response to "80% of homicide victims are male" is to reply "yeah, but they're killed by other men", meaning they don't really count. I'm still trying to understand the logic of this.
