There's always been a lot of self-martyrdom and also self-importance on both sides of the fence, especially in the 20th and 21st centuries. Before that, more often than not, it was all about the males. Even women staked grave importance on their raising of competent males (the first appearance in print of "behind every great man, there's a great woman" wasn't until the 40s.) Especially now that we live in a mish mash of ethics and politics, its best never to be in a rush to point fingers. I woul…

This statement is the kind of bullshit politicians say to get supporters. Women LOVE this statement because it speaks to their pain, which can be made secondary to the soldier's (eg. how many memorials to army wives do you see?). Men aren't going to dare start a pissing match between the sexes on who gets the bigger shaft during war -- it's just not an enjoyable, worthwhile or constructive conversation -- and so the statement slides on by, except for maybe a veteran or two sending an angry lette…

A simple life whose simple pleasures are paid for by someone else is weak. If all you want is a roof, clothes, decent food and an internet connection, that's your choice to make, and others have to be fine with that, but you better be the one paying for it. That being said, I find nothing manly about doing just enough to keep yourself safe, fed and entertained. It's awfully Epicurean, which to me is just... boring. Men are doers.

When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all. Fathers more than anyone understand this to be true. Btw there's quite the apology for the 'deadbeat dad' in there. What's worse: escaping Crazy or leaving your kids behind with Crazy? I would point out this is exactly why we need more neutral courts when it comes to child custody.

I'm pretty sure there isn't an "OS Dictionary" but I could be wrong about that. For my Android phone, there is actually an OS dictionary, but for Windows or Mac, I'm not so sure.

I just spelled it out, right clicked and hit 'add to dictionary'. I don't know this but I'm pretty sure firefox has access to anonymized 'user dictionaries'. Use it and it will be standardized. I'm just surprised because I thought it was being used plenty as it is!

This flummoxes me. I mean... 'men's club'? 'men's health'? 'men's clothing section'? I can think of a lot of terms that use that word that aren't 'men's rights.' It's a tough concern to voice, though, because you're a hop, skip and a jump away from sounding like those feminists who demand it be spelled 'womyn' because the traditional spelling is sexist.

Well it's probably a combination. Dressing and acting intentionally to grab male attention will get you on the radar, and then getting so drunk you're unaware of what's going on makes you an easy target. Obviously you can do the above two things all you want at a party full of people you know and trust. It's that last ingredient of being surrounded by strangers that can put you in significant danger. We as people who want to enjoy our lives ought to be partisan to actively avoiding bad situation…

I don't understand. Why? When someone outside an oppressed group advocates for them, even though that person may not see direct gain from it, does it not bring slightly greater credibility to the message than when another of the oppressed says "I agree"? As I recall, Women's suffrage passed during a special session of congress which was called for by a male president, Woodrow Wilson.

She's a professed troll, then. Lets downvote this link so redditors don't unwittingly give her more traffic.

Social issues are difficult to talk about -- especially when they've become political/legal issues, and women's rights and men's rights have been for a long time now. There's a lot of emotion involved. I don't know what amount of crazy is 'par for the course' but I do sometimes find this subreddit to be angrier and 'rantier' than is worthwhile for the cause it's trying to promote.

It's nice to hear it from someone else, especially a girl. Helps us confirm we're not crazy.

Thanks for that explanation. No, that doesn't sound like negative campaigning, but it also doesn't sound like what's being described by the OP. I'm sure there's a term for that, but that just sounds like a misinformation campaign -- like on global warming. However, the counter to astroturfing is to be informed. The counter to misinformation is to ... be informed. So I think either way, whatever you wish to call it, the smartest plan is to not get upset and continue to educate the public.

I think you're unfairly stating your sentiments. Not all Feminists are nuts, but it definitely is a movement that's been struggling to find a new place in society since ... the 90s? Maybe the 80s, even. Personally, I think the new movement that can best benefit from that energy is the gay community, but I'm not surprised many feminists haven't regrouped for gay rights. We're now living in an era where our since debunked paradigms of old have been thrown out into the light. Things will get better…

I agree -- a bit hard to understand, but good points. I don't understand why the 'angry female' would be considered so mythical. Lots of people get stressed out, or 'pushed to the edge' by things beyond their control but, man or woman, that doesn't excuse your actions. The traditional "angrydad" in lit/play/film is usually exactly that: strung out from work/unwittingly martyred for his family. He feels superior to everyone because he doesn't think anyone works/suffers as much as he does, and tha…

Agreed. As I understand it, astroturfing is a kind of 'negative campaigning.' It makes the accuser look bad, but not as bad as the one they're accusing. It's likely best to not react to it. Without an audience, a propagandist sounds indistinct from a crazy homeless person.

The author all but comes out and says women care and men don't, and it seems her argument is it's because women worry, and men don't. How can someone argue an entire gender simply does not have concerns? Aren't guidos proof that men freak out about stuff?

So you blame cowardice or fear (same thing) or entitlement, as in feeling superior to others and owed something for it? As in pride? By the way, I say "shouldn't" as an ideal, man. I really don't think I'm the only one who thinks people shouldn't have to deal with being harassed on a bus, sexual or otherwise. But that's unfortunately how it is, and I'm saying both girls and boys need to be aware of and self-responsible towards that.

I've seen many women who are too proud to speak up or remove themselves from a situation. They shouldn't have to, they say, and that's true -- nobody should have to do extra work cause someone else is being an ass, but it seems a world without asses is just too tall an order for humanity.

I see nothing stating HOW he was abusive, just THAT he was abusive. Either there's a really lazy journalist or a really biased editor, but proving justification that her act was more self-defense than murder is kind of the linchpin of this story -- and it's COMPLETELY absent.

I'd like to know exactly how she was abused. 'Abuse' is a very loose term. If she was being constantly detained or whipped by her husband, and if she was being coerced to remain married to him, maybe I could see that killing him was an unfortunate byproduct of her escape. The arguments for her in this article, though, aren't doing it for me. "I was really upset" isn't an excuse for murder, and "He was a douche" is also not an excuse for murder. "The kids like me more" is also not an excuse for m…

Then what you have is the majority of power in the hands of a few males that have no interest in aiding one another, let alone the slew of males that DON'T have power. Sound familiar?

Playing the victim has always been a lucrative card, but the thing is when you play it you can't play it on something overcome-able about yourself -- weight discrimination victims get far less sympathy than race or gender discrimination victims. But these things work both ways: 'reverse discrimination' isn't a new thing, it's just more discrimination. Whatever the race, men are often prejudged as potential victimizers or diversity problems. Men have 'been in power' for so long that certainly the…

Yeah, this isn't news. Scumbag husbands have been pushing pregnancy in many ways just like scumbag wives have -- the difference is if the husband has no legal protection.

Ever listen to JPop or KPop? Ever wonder why it sounds exactly the same as something you heard on American radio 2 years ago? Here's some examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYcSmeqf2YM&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srGLDFrSNXU This one's so obvious you shouldn't have to be told who it's ripping off: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4DzCevMHjQ
