another neat trick is to do the opposite: subvocalizing with a high pitched mickey mouse voice right before speaking tends to result in a lower albeit more dynamic voice. i've been using this trick ever since i discovered it while playing with my stuffed animals as a child. i think the extreme high pitch and intensity somehow 'unlocks' the throat and diaphragm.
