The problem is the loneliness issue is being discussed with women as the main villain when the issue is not that simple. Yes, women have less empathy for men and generally care less, but when you look at all the issues feminism brings up, that distancing makes sense. It isn't out of malice or accusation of malevolent intent against innocent men, it is literally self-preservation. If you've emotionally opened up to women and had that used against you, would you not be less inclined to be vulnerab…

I saw a question on a subreddit for asking feminists questions about whether it was acceptable to have no empathy for men or their issues. The post went so far as to say feminism is about liberation of women from men, which is untrue. A lot of the responses agreed with the sentiment to one extent or another, some saying society expects more empathy toward men than it does toward women (which is entirely untrue from my perspective) and some even saying men are immune to suffering and deserve no e…

I used to think the way you do about feminism. However, I've grown to have a better understanding of what they actually think and what they want. I perceive such messages from feminism: Without exception, I believe your perception is incorrect when attributing these to moderate feminist opinions. I think the problem comes from the fact most feminists will deny this as a valid perception and just blame the guy that sees this, calling it misogyny, instead of looking at the source of those bad fait…

The counter argument here is that until very recently (maybe even continuing today), diagnostic criteria for autism has been largely (or exclusively) based on studies of men with autism, leading to an under-diagnosis rate for women, since autism may present in a different way, which may not be covered for that reason. There are also studies that show men are diagnosed at a much earlier age (50% below age 11 vs 20%) than women. These statistics alone warrant more research into the topic to determ…

If it's way off the mark, why are you agreeing with me in the next paragraph? I said anti-feminists come across as hating women, to which the response is typically torching people. What are you disagreeing with, exactly? Fighting against a supremacy movement rife with hate isn't synonymous with fighting against women as a demographic. Feminism isn't a supremacy movement, those that want supremacy just use the banner and those tend to be the minority in most feminist spaces. You are free to hate …

It is a thing, whether you believe it or not. You can find feminists today that share that belief. Can't say it was ever dominant worldwide or nationally, but it was definitely the most common ideology when I first started interacting with feminists. For some people, they apply the worst part to the whole, for others they take the whole as a sum of parts. It's always been a shit tactic to apply the actions of the worst member to the actions of all members, this is no different.

I don't identify myself as a feminist because of all the negative types that do so (terfs, man-haters, etc.), but still identify with the base belief in gender equality. If the feminism that believes in fighting for men's rights as well as women's rights becomes dominant again, I'd be happy to take up the title. Equally, the people that are explicitly anti-feminist just come off as misogynists looking for a socially acceptable, seemingly reasonable way to express their hatred publicly. If someon…

When you take on a label, you also take on the opinions of the best and worst people that also use the label. Labels like these become pointless very quickly due to groups of different opinions fracturing but continuing to use the label. Feminism is a great example. Most of them are basically just egalitarian under a different term while others want a world free of anyone with a penis, along with several different tiers between them. If someone tells me they're an MRA, I don't know if they're ju…

This is a no true Scotsman. No it's not. If the post had said "anyone that doesn't think this way isn't a real feminist", then it would be.

As someone that started early, I'm against the policy as a whole. Individual evaluation for all kids would be fine, but having that as a blanket policy for all boys would cause more problems than it would solve. Seems like it would just be easier to offer boys as much support as girls get.

Why does this matter? The argument was that people have the right to exist without being confronted with things they didn't approve of. That is not the argument, it's the straw man you created. Happening across a sub you don't like (because it came up in your feed or a search or whatever) is not the same as something being sent to you directly. Going on the internet, you accept the possibility of seeing things you don't want to, but there are also tools to block that out (which if you hate seein…

People have a right to exist without shit they don't want being forced into their space, be it physical or digital. Is digital less damaging or traumatic? Probably. Does that fact matter at all? No. At the end of the day it's all a guy forcing himself on someone and no one else gets to decide how much damage they are doing to another person.

Imagine approaching a random woman on the street or in an otherwise empty aisle in the store and pulling it out. Now imagine that woman is surrounded by 20 men all doing it at the same time. Do any of these scenarios sound ok to you?

Yeah, men's rights subs can hate with the worst of feminist subs. Not sure where this specific sub falls on the hate spectrum as I don't spend much time in here, but I imagine it's a guilty until proven innocent situation where it's assumed to be the worst until proven otherwise. Never understood why anyone thinks hating women (or hating men) is in any way productive.

Paternal (father) and maternal (mother) are used fairly commonly as appropriate. I've never heard Paternal referring to both parents and it sounds wrong anyway. Parental is accurate and spelled very similarly. I'd sooner believe typos and mispronunciations than people actually using "paternal" that way. The "frat" prefix refers to brother, as in "fraternity". If someone is using that in reference to parenting at all, they're using it incorrectly.

I think the idea is that many people equate all men's issues with their inability to show emotion, which is symbolized by tears. Just a guess, I'm not the OP, just noticed you missed a slide.

We all need to stop with the men vs women rhetoric. It's not useful.
/r/MensRights22/06/22 07:18 PM

Yes, you are missing the point. Nothing in the post says tears are wrong or bad, just that they don't fix the rest of the problems. "Crying is good, but it is not a solution to men's issues..."

Your premises are faulty. There are plenty of people regardless of gender that are not "turned off" when the person in whom they're interested is taken. Also plenty that respect it. All this speaks to is that some people are shitty.

I understand the dangers and the need for precautions, don’t have any problem with any of that. My only issue is when it’s aimed at me unjustifiably. I’ve been called a creep before for just saying “hello” in passing. The base assumption that I’m a creep because of my gender is not exactly ideal, but I get it. It just really sucks to always be under suspicion, though I imagine it’s worse to be made to feel you always have to be suspicious.

I'm against Red pill as a whole, though I do think some of what they "preach" is valid. It's pretty much identical to my thoughts on FDS. People took a decent set of principles and corrupted them inside a toxic echo chamber. I don't think either ideology is particularly healthy overall. That said, I can't speak outside my own experience. What I see is a growing number of people approaching dating as a business transaction. What can they offer me, how much can I get, how little can I give and sti…

I said “hello” to a woman in passing that I had previously had a college class with and thought we were acquainted and got called a creep in return. I shrugged it off and kept walking. The other incident was getting told that guys don’t get to choose when to have sex after I declined at the end of a first date. To date no one has told me what I did wrong, only that I’m a creep and/or a liar. The best I could think to do better is stop interacting with random people at all unless absolutely neces…

I’ve recounted a bad date and been called a liar because (I assume) they didn’t think any woman would say what was said to me. I’ve also been harassed, received death threats, and been banned from a sub when I recounted a couple times I received insults for just saying “hello” and subsequently tried to clarify the situation. The first instance was just one woman and she dropped the “objection” pretty quick. The second one was probably only one or two “bad actors” and the rest probably ignored an…

Not saying I know what it’s like or anything, but I understand the anger. You have a right to be angry and no one should be telling you otherwise. That said, I think a lot of people forget that men are a victim of this BS thinking as well, having been brought up under the tradition. We didn’t choose how or what we were taught. I was taught some pretty messed up stuff and it still pisses me off that I was brought up with such sexist traditions. I’ve put in a lot of work to do and be better. I sti…

Years ago, when I was first introduced to it, TRP was more about advocating for men's perspective when it came to socialization, dating, and relationships. In mainstream discussions at the time ("mainstream" here just meaning discussions on these topics in generalized spaces), I always felt my perspective was brushed aside, ridiculed, and/or ignored. Of course, when I read into what TRP ACTUALLY was (or at least what it became), I backed out entirely. Their views of men and women and our respect…

I was raised mostly around girls (3 sisters and 8 female cousins)/women (single mom, 3 aunts). Relationships tend to be neutral at worst. I'd say I have a roughly equal number of close male and female friends. I do not identify with any particular side. I will say I agree with some of the things TRP stands for (or at least did in the beginning), but like everything, people took it way too far. Extreme opinions became normal and the whole thing shifted further and further from sanity. I view it p…

Sweeping declarations like this will, with few exceptions, always be incorrect. Better and more accurate to say "I never see..." or "seems like very few...".

If you approach it like a tiger approaching a gazelle, it's predatory. Have a basic human level of respect for the other person and no one cares if you're just looking for a fling (provided you're not lying about it just for sex).

I grew up with 3 sisters and (until I was 10 or 11) no father. My older sister (by 11 months) and I were close, so I was friends with a lot of her friends. I've always had platonic female friends. I feel like having female friends has given me some insight to women's perspectives on things, maybe a better ability to empathize with things I might not have been able to understand otherwise. I've always been better at making friends with girls/women, honestly. I have an easier time talking to femal…

I thought maybe you had a point until I read the first few lines of the post. I have never understood why being "the biggest" and/or "most attractive" matters. If she chose me and I make her happy, that's all I need to know. I'm well aware I'm not Adonis, my gf probably knows it too if I'm not literally one of the only male she's ever met. Maybe it's just me, but my gf gushing over how I make her feel will always be a bigger compliment to me than anything regarding my physical appearance. I 100%…

I have a running theory that we are taught that our worth is entirely dependent on the attention we get from women. I certainly learned that somewhere and, judging by a lot of guys out there, it seems to be fairly common. Gotta learn to be content being alone, then a relationship starts feeling like an option and not a necessity.

I'm pretty sure if a guy is going to reject a girl on those grounds, she probably wants nothing to do with him anyway. Sounds like a win-win to me. How are we not past shaming women for having sex yet?

The world would be a much better place if "incel culture" was entirely eradicated. The fact I had one bad date doesn't contribute to it. Is it really that unbelievable to you that women can be shitty too?

Had one tell me that the woman decides if sex is happening. Whether the guy wants it or not, he doesn’t get a say. I’m not 100% sure she meant it the way it came out, but she did yell at me and call me names when I decided not to go back with her to her place.

As long as it’s not against the rules of whatever forum you’re posting it, you’re free to share such opinions, just as people are free to respond to those opinions. And that goes both ways.

That’s the rub, though. Whether intended or not, it promotes this false generalization that “men are abusers and oppressors”. From there you just spiral down the hatred rabbit hole and the sub does nothing to discourage that rhetoric, arguably actively encouraging it. It is filling an important role, I do agree with that. A lot of women are able to get some help and get to a better place because of it, but that doesn’t make it above criticism.

In my experience, a lot of these guys have made "nice" a main personality trait. Somewhere in their development, they got it in their head that just the act of being nice would make them irresistible to women and never developed a decent personality or even into a decent human being. Then the bitterness of constant rejection builds up into the "nice guy" behavior we're all familiar with. I do believe the vast majority of them could benefit from some serious therapy, but that won't even help unle…

I've read some of the FDS Handbook and, at its core, it does send a good message about having standards and holding to them. The idea behind the community does seem like a great idea. But the actuality of the place is a lot worse. At best, it's a place where women are encouraged to dump men for sometimes trivial reasons, which on its own is fine. If you want a guy to be Y and he is not Y, fair enough. But to then call than guy trash or a "LVM" and then lament that there are no actual decent guys…

Of course it's not justification, but it is a reason. You talk about discipline as a single, universal thing, but it's always discipline in respect to something, whether it be "hunger, stealing, sleeping in, laziness, aggression or sex drive"; all of which are generally taught from a young age with one exception which isn't ever really even mentioned. As long as urges are still a thing, they do have a place in conversation.

I sometimes wonder if people understand that "men" is not a single entity. I do not know what every man thinks, says, or does nor am I responsible for the thoughts or actions of another individual. Yes, our society does have problems with how women are treated. Yes, we as a society need to make significant changes and improvements in this regard. I don't have much if any firsthand experience with this as I am neither a woman nor a man with any measurable level of power financially or professiona…

Bad experiences in life gave you a jaded view. Through those lenses, you "confirm" what you already knew in the people around you. Some women have issues with rejection, same as anyone. The natural instinct at that point would be to try to tear the other person down to where they feel. It's not a gendered thing, plenty of people of all types do it. I would not say this is healthy behavior in any way. I would argue we do need each other. You can be perfectly happy completely ignoring 50% of peopl…

"I also don't think many men seem to realize that the onus is entirely on women when it comes to maintaining relationships. Maybe traditionally the courtship still falls on men for whatever antiquated reason, but is usually women who bear the mental load: social interactions, cleaning, organization, planning, child care. It's still expected to be "a woman's job" and it's not like we still live in a society in which men are the only ones working. We joined the work force a long time ago too, yet …

They original purpose is great. Most of their basic advice is decent, though I did find I disagreed with some of their statements in their handbook, but it’s not all bad. I feel like it’s just like any echo chamber, you let a little toxicity slip in and it spoils the whole thing. Some of the posts I’ve read are absolutely insane, but I do think the average member is probably not toxic and is just looking for advice and/or a support structure.
