VIII "wanting a divorce" is a catholic reconstruction---it was about far more than that, the Pope also collected tax in England, and in those days, the Church was a State Church, and it had power to censure people for heresy, etc. etc. The Church of England's assertion of its independence and ancient liberty was a very important step toward the liberation of people from state churches in general, tho that is a work in progress to this day. 2	Service Well, history depends who you ask. Of course if you asked a Roman Catholic, H V.III seceded from "the church," as defined by the Pope. But if you ask a good C of E man, the Pope seceded from the Church of England ;).
